Andrew Bayer is genius. His album “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” was my favorite full length LP from 2013, even after it was all said and done with others from Mat Zo, Feed Me, Avicii, Daft Punk and Sub Focus. He has returned to releasing club oriented singles, most recently with “Perth / Merth Mobile”. There are no weak segments of the tune, beginning with a thumping opening sequence that transitions into a magnificently crafted melody layered with big, reverbed piano that Arty uses so well. Bayer proves why he is one of the best once again with “Once Lydian”.

Andrew Bayer, the maker of my favorite album of the year, “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” has teamed up with fellow Anjunabeats members, Norin & Rad to form the duo Artificial. The US branch of the Anjunabeats family, the three of these producers have always looked to push the traditional boundaries of genre, and they continue that trend here. The track combines the upbeat complexity we see in Andrew Bayer’s clubbier selections, with the melodic abilities seen in Norin & Rad’s tunes. It is the perfect storm of their talents.

Phonat is an amazing artist. His latest six song EP “Identity Theft” contained some of the most creative, technical, and forward-thinking contemporary music available, in my opinion. It houses songs ranging from dark and chilling, to ambient, to funky and bright. Phonat’s music pushes boundaries without sacrificing sophistication. More recently, he crafted a remix for Andrew Bayer’s excellent track, “Need Your Love“, which rivalled the brilliance of the original. His funky, soulful, and glicthy futuristic sound is addictive and inspiring.
This mix is a masterpiece. Phonat moves with ease between genres – all accented by his innovative yet accessible sound. It is an impossibly smooth compilation of deep house, euphoric dubstep, soul, and Phonat’s own brand of future sound. The songs and sounds are carefully selected, and the transitions are beyond slick. He has created a mix that whisks you on away and takes you on an adventure.

A little throwback Thursday (kind of) here with this video from Andrew Bayer and Anjunabeats. His album “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” has been my favorite dance music album since “Group Therapy”. “Need Your Love” was just released in a club mix form, making it amenable to the club or festival setting, as Above & Beyond showed at Electric Zoo. The video takes us on a journey through the stunning forests of Southern Poland in the Tatra Mountains. The scenery fits the beauty of the track to a t. BT has become a standard bearer for innovation and excellence in dance music. He is noted as a creative producer of many different styles and sounds, as well as an acclaimed film scorer and programmer: the mind behind the now necessary stutter edit. His 9th artist album “A Song Across Wires” instantly shot up to number one on the iTunes dance charts and has produced such singles like “Must Be The Love”, “Skylarking”, and “Tomahawk”. We had the chance to chat with him last week before his show at Marquee, and of all the people I have had the chance to interview like Hardwell, Arty, Thomas Gold and Andrew Bayer, BT was probably my favorite guy to talk to.
Later that night we got to catch his set at Marquee that featured a heavy dose of ASAW and more danceable tracks from the lengthy BT discography. There were plenty of avid BT fans in attendance, so this was a party he knew how to play, even at a bottle service club like Marquee. One of the most musical and compositionally gifted producers in dance music now, Andrew Bayer has served up a three track EP for your ear drums and they are delighted. “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave“, remains my favorite album this year and one of the most popular selections “Need Your Love”, got a club mix to translate its beauty to the club setting, which it did without losing any of the original elegance. “England” was the gem of “Anjunabeats Volume 10“, and now we have the full copy in all of its glory. First premiered at TATW 450 in Bangalore, “Detuned” is a glitchy, dubstep track that shows departure from what we normally get from Bayer, but still remains true to his sound.

The world needs this album right now. Sometimes in this fast paced mile-a-minute world you just need to sit back, close your eyes and relax, and this is the album for that. The 25 year old American producer has developed a reputation for composing genre defying music that spans many styles and sounds. His 2011 album, “It’s Artificial” propelled his solo career forward with its wide variety of styles, from glitch-hop to silky smooth techno to eclectic electronica and progressive, creating a very cerebral experience.
Fast forward to 2013, Andrew Bayer has become a well established member of the Anjunabeats, producing with Above & Beyond on their album “Group Therapy”, being a part of Group Therapy stages everywhere from Tomorrowland to EDC Las Vegas and Electric Zoo, and joining Above & Beyond on tour all over the world. He has established himself with a growing single discography that includes the recently released “England” on Anjunabeats. “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” is the progression of Andrew Bayer as an artist from his more days with the Signalrunners, making traditional trance music, to a now more ambient, orchestral, album oriented sound that has a timeless quality seen in very few full length electronic pieces today.
