Dubstep, Review | Datsik — Vitamin D

Posted by on April 10, 2012

All the heavy dub heads have been waiting for this day to see Datsik release all his hard work onto his first album “Vitamin D”. Being a fan of Datsik and knowing the potential he has; I went into listening to this album with very high hopes. Known for putting out some of the filthiest songs it is safe to say Datsik is pretty well known for his heavy wobbles and crunch sounds. After giving the album a full listen I can say that it didn’t meet the expectations I had for it. As far as the structure of the album goes I will give Datsik the credit of having a nice flow from one song to the next. My problem was with the overall uniqueness of each track and the incorporation of new sounds. Yes, Datsik has some of the sickest sounds and remixes in dubstep, but the repetition of similar or exact same sounds was just too much for me in this album. By the third or fourth song I already knew what sounds and synths he was going to use throughout the track and the drop with maybe a few additions. Nevertheless, I did have a few favorites on the album that I do recommend listening to. Punisher easily took the top spot for me on this album as the dominant track that stood out.  This collaboration with Downlink was filled with heavy bass and Datsik’s signature wobbles combined with Downlink’s style . This track also included some snippets of Biggie vocals which worked out very well. My other three favorites were Syndrome, Complete Control, and Annihilate all for close to similar reasons as Punisher. Just because I didn’t favor this album as much as I hoped too, shouldn’t by any means discourage you guys from not listening to it all the way through.

Videos | Sammy Adams- Summertime

Posted by on April 9, 2012

Things up on the road and I seen up on the planes don’t compare to being with the homies some things never change.

Sampling his own, “I Hate College” remix that catapulted him into superstardom, Sammy Adams is back with a new video montage shot with a super 8 camera that debuted on VEVO in anticipation of his major label release with Sony/RCA. While productions details are scarce, Sammy is rumored to be working with Pharrell. While in Dallas, we had the opportunity to listen to his highly anticipated “Only One” single, an insanely catchy anthem dedicated to finding that special someone. One thing is for certain, come album release time, Sammy Adams will deliver a project worth phoning home about.

Hip-Hop | Kendrick Lamar ft. Dr. Dre – The Recipe

Posted by on April 2, 2012

“Every morning when I wake up (uh)/ Money on my mind, go time to get caked up (uh)/ Sunshine coming through my blinds, I’m living but/ Really though, it’s never enough, $10 billion, that’s a must.”

Kendrick Lamar releases his highly anticipated first single sampling Twin Sister’s “Meet The Frownies” from his upcoming TDE/Aftermath/Interscope debut album scheduled to drop later this year.  From the harmony of the chorus to the almost hypnotizing sample of Twin Sister’s singing, the synergy between the two artists leaves a burning impression in my musical memory bank. This is true musicianship.

Single doesn’t mean I’m looking for somebody

Just last week, we had the opportunity to catch up with Sammmy Adams while he was in Dallas. During the catch up, Sammy was gracious enough to play a few select cuts from his forthcoming album, all of which were huge. Although there’s no set release date on the album yet, he’s dropped a new track entitled “Summertime” for the fans that you can preview above. As a bonus, we’ve included pictures from his Dallas show at The Palladium last weekend!
