Electro-House, Progressive House | Steve Aoki ft. Polina – Come With Me (Remixes)
Posted by Middy on February 19, 2013
The traveling entertainer / aspiring Olympic trampolinist / raver rafter / cake sniper, Steve Aoki has finally released the remix package for single with Polina “Come With Me”. The Pierce Fulton remix that was previewed a long time ago at last gets its release by Steve Aoki and the gang at Ultra Records with its quick electro bursts and driving bass line. The Jidax remix gets a rerelease from the Wonderland remix album and it is my favorite of the bunch with its blistering synths and punchy low end. Both Lazy Rich and up and comer Deorro put their own unique electro spin on the track with powerful grinding low ends. Doorly comes in with the heaviest interpretation of the track with bass heavy, growling dubstep remix.

Progressive House | First State feat. Sarah Howells – Seeing Stars
Posted by Mel on February 18, 2013
Dutch producer Sander van Dien, also known as First State, is a new name to me, but did he ever make a good first impression. “Seeing Stars” is the debut single off his upcoming album and it’s a good one. Sarah Howells provides superb vocals that are accompanied by beautiful piano work and atmospheric strings, leading to a build up composed of outstanding arps and claps and then climaxing into an uplifting drop. You won’t see me posting many Beatport tracks, but this one is too good not to share.
Electro, Hip-Hop | Radical Something – Say Yes (Big Red Remix)
Posted by LoffyG on February 18, 2013
After filling our Summer with continuous new music releases, Radical Something is back. This time they give us an electro infused version of their song “Say Yes“, remixed by Big Red. To accompany the song they created a montage of videos that were filmed entirely from Big Red’s iPhone during their recent Fall tour. Speaking of tour, Radical Something is gearing up to hit the road this Thursday to embark on their Radical Republic Tour. Be sure to catch them in a city near you and lookout for details on their new album coming soon!
Dubstep, Electro-House, Preview | Skrillex – Puppy
Posted by Mach on February 18, 2013
Well it seems that Skrillex may have an album coming this Summer. It is about time he started to make releases from his massive vault of tracks. The video is a commercial for G-Star Denim, which features the first known single that may or may not be a part of the album. “The Art of RAW,” (clearly a play on words of the book, “The Art of War”), is described by Skrillex as a blend of Electro-House, Dubstep, and fidget. An interesting blend for sure, I am happy that I actually enjoy this clip. The “Bangarang EP” was boring in my opinion, it baffles me that Skrillex managed to pull a Grammy from the title single. A creatively wild track such as this only leaves me wondering if an album would be all that we have been hoping for over the past 2 years. At this point it’s hard to say, and just as Skrillex has stated LPs in the past, this Summer could end up another disappointment. I’m sure there is just a lot of confusion between his upcoming Dog Blood releases and his new project with Diplo and A-Trak.
Edit: Well, it turns out that the track is not called “The Art of Raw” but is in fact named “Puppy”.
Hip-Hop | J. Cole – Truly Yours EP
Posted by LoffyG on February 12, 2013
It’s been awhile since we’ve last heard any new material from J. Cole, so in light of that he just released this 5 track EP of unreleased material. This is what he had to say:
I appreciate you giving me the time I needed to grow, experiment, and find the direction for my 2nd album.. And I have.
Along the way I’ve recorded at least 4 albums worth of material, lots of it being unfinished demo versions waiting to be polished up, some of them are great songs and important stories that just won’t make the album (either they don’t fit Sonically, don’t fit Theme, or there’s just not enough space) .Tonight, I want to give you a few of these songs because you deserve them. It’s hard as fuck for me to keep all this music from you for so long, so I know it’s been hard for you to wait. Thank you for your patience. Vibe out to these songs in their raw form, no polish.. just a lot of my soul..
The wait is over.
Truly Yours,
Born Sinner
He also announced that his album “Born Sinner” is ready, claiming it’s his best work yet. The first single is set to release this week. Until then, sit back and listen. You can download the full EP and preview the last 4/5 tracks below!

Preview, Trance | Dash Berlin Ft. Chris Madin – Fool For Life (Dash Berlin 4AM Remix)
Posted by Mach on February 11, 2013
“#musicislife” is by far my favorite album of 2012. Since its release, the question on my mind has been, which track will Dash Berlin create a 4am remix of? I am happy that they chose “Fool For Life.” It is definitely one of my top 5 favorites from the album, but I feel it has more versatility for a remix than the other tracks do. Only having heard this preview of the remix, I have to say I enjoy Dash Berlin’s piano and synth progression much more than the original. The drop is something different than most Trance listeners are use to hearing. It has a little bit of a breakbeat vibe to it but still has that progressive flow anyone can fall in love with. This remix makes me even more excited to soak in ASOT at UMF this year. This remix is set to release on Aropa Records on February 28th.
Hip-Hop, Videos | Thoughts On Drake, “Started From The Bottom” [Video]

Drake’s awareness of the divide between the substantive hip-hop of the underground scene he came up in and that of the mainstream (which he’s currently immersed in) has always fascinated me, and his success is largely due to how he’s been able to perform so well in both realms. But his ideals are changing fast. I fear that we may never get another record as honest, introspective, and meditative as So Far Gone. His first two LP’s highlighted his complexity as an artist as he produced ultimately thoughtful records, inter-spiced with pop jams that didn’t fit the rest of the album’s tone — a trend that is replicated in the majority of major releases in the present day. But with the release of “Started From the Bottom,” Drake has finally given us a single that harshly abandons his beloved idiosyncrasies and fortes—a record where his delivery is so determined to be gruff that it is unceasingly stagnant and unimaginative.
When he was starting out, he knew that in order to gain credibility he had to provide something different, so he presented himself as a beacon of honesty, and as a genuine storyteller—which, for the most part—he lived up to originally. But while he wanted to unite a passionate fan-base around this self-image, he also wanted to attract consumers of pop radio and commercial hip-hop, and it’s no secret that gangsta hip-hop has dominated the mainstream for the past two decades. Drake’s concerns have become less about his originality, and in reality, have turned to the opposite—fitting the portfolio of a hip-hop artist that has led to respect and stardom for much of the current genre-toppers. With his third album, we may finally receive the Drake that told Kate Couric that Lil Wayne was the “voice of our generation,” and whom seems more interested in what the hip-hop community thinks of his childhood than making music he can be proud of.
Drake’s new album is slated to come out this year, and I’ll be waiting to see what kind of a move he makes on his new single, but from where I stand, “Started From the Bottom” is a bold step in the wrong direction. The direction I’ve feared he’s been heading in for quite some time.
