Hip-Hop, Indie | Scotty James Ft. Yonas-Wanna Be Loved

Posted by on March 5, 2012

Combining Indie Rock, Hip Hop and Rap comes Scotty James and Yonas as they release to us a new jam. Smooth vocals and smooth spits combine to create a song thats more than just about cars, hoe biddies and being the next best thing. Yonas has definitely become someone to watch out of New York City, while Scotty James the Canadian new comer with a Collin Mcloughlin-esque audience is giving us a mellow chorus to feel good about.

Hip-Hop, Indie | Aer – Smoove Bruh [Video]

The tranquilizing tunes of Aer are always a refreshing change from what we’re typically used to hearing from todays up and comers.  Maintaining the mellow sound they’ve had since the beginning, David and Carter are just two laid back dudes having a hell of a lot of fun making music fans can relate to.  If you missed FNT’s recent interview with Aer, check that out HERE as well.

Alternative, Hip-Hop, Indie | WZRD (KiD CuDi & Dot Da Genius) ft. Desire – Teleport 2 Me, Jamie

Posted by on January 31, 2012

Its been a pleasure watching musical genres of all kinds go from an abstract state into one colorful art form. There’s no greater evidence of this than Kid Cudi, known for dabbling in a variety of sounds and tempos, never could he simply be just a rapper. Teleport 2 Me, Jamie leans towards being an alternative indie record, and far from ever being acknowledged solely as hip hop. Actually, this track happens to sample from one of my favorite indie records, Under Your Spell by Desire. That’s a great thing, right when the game seems to have lost its oxygen, Kid Cudi’s musical diversity enters with a breath of fresh air.
Get it on iTunes.

Indie | W8’s Indie Pack #2

Posted by on December 1, 2011

As the snow begins to fall here in Canada indie tends to fade from my playlist because of how summer oriented the sounds are. My sympathy goes out to you fortunate ones still occupying a warm climate, I feel your pain. After the positive response of last months Indie Thursday I took it upon myself to compile another collection of my favorite indie tracks of today. The more you like and comment on these indie posts equals the amount of energy I put into making them so feedback is nice.

Indie, Pop, Reggae | Radical Something – Sun Down [Music Video]

In lieu of the holiday season starting, Radical Something drops a unifying jam that is really driven by a strong hook by Josh Cocktail.  Loggy doesn’t disappoint with his vibrant vocals as usual along with great production by Big Red.  This track is not connected to any project in particular, just something to hold you over until your thanksgiving feast.

“We’re only as strong as the bonds we have with the friends & family we love.” – Radical Something

Albums, Indie | Tycho – A Walk

Posted by on November 4, 2011

Scott Hansen, better known as Tycho is back with his new LP Dive. Definitely one of his many projects that take place in my hierarchy of chill records. A calm refreshment that floats me through time on a dreamy elevation, feels like being freshly dried by the sun. Tycho’s music deserves a better world than ours, not to mention his use of braille in the top right corner of this LP for the blind is genius. If you like what you hear, buy everything Tycho here.
