Events | Spotify’s Miami Music Week Events Cannot Be Missed

Many of us know Spotify as the giant streaming service that delivers music straight to our phones or laptops without any hassle, but the Swedish company, more specifically its electroNOW division, has teamed up with Proximity and District to throw two special Miami Music Week parties that you don’t want to miss. The first of the two is taking place on March 18th at the National hotel, and it features a slew of all-star artists like Audien, Ghastly, ATTLAS, and more, in addition to secret back-to-back sets all day long. The second of the two events promises to bring a heavy dose of vibes, as artists like EDX, Two Friends, and Above & Beyond will be taking over the 1Hotel on March 19th for the Spotify x District party. Ultra Records just revealed their lineup for SXSW, and we’ve got it covered for you! If you plan on making it out to Austin, Texas for the music showcase that is SXSW, make sure you stop by Empire Garage, on Wednesday March 16th to catch Bearson, Chris Malinchak, Danny L Harle, Klingande, Louis The Child, and Steve James. Make sure you get there early, as there will be a line, the doors open at 8PM. I personally will be out there, and will be rocking my bright yellow FreshNewTracks, so if you recognize the VMan, make sure you say what’s up! See y’all there!

The 14th annual #FEST boasts a multi-genre line up that has a little something for all tastes. Friday night’s Welcome Event will be hosted by two of the best party throwers in the nation, Big Gigantic and NGHTMRE. Saturday’s line up never even gives you a chance to go to the bathroom with Fetty Wap, The Chainsmokers, Lil Dicky, Post Malone, Slander, Pierce Fulton, Cal Scruby, Wes Walker & Dyl, and Futuristic providing a day of non-stop good tunes. This weekend, Southern California dance music fans will have the unique opportunity to experience a piece of dance music history firsthand, as the iconic Paradise Garage nightclub is making its triumphant return at the Hollywood Palladium. The legendary, New York City nightclub ran from the late 1970s to the late 1980s, and managed to have a tremendous impact on today’s nightclub and dance music culture before it closed its doors.
When Paradise Garage opened its doors in 1977, the club was inspired by David Mancuso’s parties at The Loft, which served no alcohol, food, or drink, and was closed to the public. These foundational ethos led to Paradise Garage pioneering major aspects of modern-day nightlife culture, in particular, a renewed emphasis on dancing, rather than socializing, and placing the DJ at the center of attention. During Paradise Garage’s decade-long run, resident DJ, Larry Levan, popularized the club by championing a new genre, “garage,” which was comprised of house, disco, and techno that you would hear at Paradise Garage. Levan held weekly parties on Saturday called Saturday Mass, and many modern day music luminaries, like Frankie Knuckles, Louie Vega, and Madonna, all point to Paradise Garage as a major influence in their lives.

This weekend, attendees will have the opportunity to experience the magical vibes of the original nightclub, thanks to the headliners, Joey Llanos and David DePino, who were both around and heavily involved with the original nightclub. In fact, DePino was actually the person responsible for finding the space that the original nightclub occupied, which he revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2014. Llanos, on the other hand, was an electrician by trade who was brought on at Paradise Garage as a bouncer, and learned the art of house and techno from paying attention to Levan, one of the best in the business.
Since the doors of Paradise Garage closed in 1987, Llanos and DePino have been traveling around the world spreading the good vibes and great music that defined Paradise Garage, and this weekend will be no different. There’s no doubt that with these two legends on the decks, the Palladium will be rocking wall to wall with some of the best house, disco, and techno from the last four decades.

Paradise Garage served as a beacon of the underground house music scene during the 70’s and 80’s. The doors to the iconic nightclub officially closed in 1987, almost 30 years ago, but its legacy lives on and remains relevant, even to this day. On December 19, Los Angeles will get a taste of the legendary club at their revival event, A Night At The Paradise Garage. The party will feature headlining sets from two of Paradise Garage’s finest, Joey Llanos and David DePino, who will be spinning an array of classic house and disco jams, while Kenny Summit and special guests will be on support duty to round it out. In addition to bringing the legendary energy of the club to a new city, the event also serves as a fundraiser for GMHC, an organization which fights the AIDS epidemic and uplift the lives of those affected. All of this combined leads up to Paradise Garage: Inspirations, a double vinyl release from Good For You Records featuring tracks some of the most legendary house/disco producers like Frankie Knuckles and more.

This December, the Dominican Republic is in for one of the best festivals to hit the Caribbean. Electric Paradise is making its triumphant return to its beach-front venue in Punta Cana, and it’s already set to be an unforgettable affair, even with just phase 1 of its lineup announced. Everyone from Chromeo to Hot Since 82 will be gracing their multiple stage setup, in the midst of many other attractions. In celebration of the first artists being announced, we’ve put it upon ourselves to highlight some of our favorite acts on the bill and give you a deeper look into them. Not too long ago, Hardwell released the official video for “Mad World,” but now he’s prepping for his tour run in the U.S. that’s coming up next week. With a successful ADE and more in the bag, he has his sights set on Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and San Francisco (Two nights) for shows spanning from November 11th to the 14th. By now, most of you are probably well aware of what to expect, but for those who don’t, Hardwell will be bringing his always diverse array of big-room anthems and expert DJ abilities to the table for thousands upon thousands to experience. Minneapolis and Milwaukee will be debaucherous nights in theatre/ballroom-type venues, while San Francisco will host his highly anticipated, back-to-back I Am Hardwell – United We Are shows that are world-renowned at the Bill Graham Auditorium.
