On December 17th and 18th, Mixify will be hosting the second edition of its “Unity” festival with a host of notable talent like Chocolate Puma, Arty, Norman Doray and more. Today, the festival is announcing through its 7 media partners, us being one of them, the 6 artists in the first wave of acts. They are: Arty, Norman Doray, Chocolate Puma, Will Sparks, Swanky Tunes and Paris Blohm.

We will be presenting Dutch veterans, Chocolate Puma’s set on 12/17 at 4pm. The duo have had a stellar year, racking up remixes for the likes of fellow festival attendee, Norman Doray, Kaskade and Major Lazer, while also releasing tracks on Steve Angello’s “X” Recordings and several on Spinnin’. The duo will bring their upbeat brand of house music to the festival, giving it a groove you won’t find from the other artists on the bill.

The whole festival has been put together to raise awareness and funds for disaster relief in the Philippines, following Typhoon Haiyan. Fans are encouraged to go to UNICEF‘s website to see how they can help with their efforts in the Philippines. Phase 2 artist announcement to come shortly in the next few days. Check out one of Chocolate Puma’s sets from this fall to see what you are in store for on December 17th. Enter here.

Events, Featured, Review | RECAP: Alesso @ The Aragon Ballroom 11/23

A brisk Chicago night seemed very fitting for the show that Swedish sensation and top DJ Alesso would soon play. A sold out show awaited us as we arrived to the beautiful Aragon Ballroom venue, with an array of personalities passing by. The line for admission went back a good couple hundred people deep and even curled around the alley next to the venue. Everyone stood freezing in line, anxiously awaiting to step into the warm building.

By the time we got situated at the venue, the opener, Luminox, began his set. We all remember him for the huge remix to Bingo Players’ “Rattle”. Showing a wide variety of sounds and styles, Luminox threw one hell of an opening set, even dropping in some Cashmere Cat “No Lie” a personal favorite… With the crowd getting into it, Luminox created a great atmosphere going into Alesso’s set.

Finally it was time for Alesso to perform and the crowd went nuts. Beginning with one of his notable singles, Years, he started it off with a lot of energy that really got the crowd engaged. Everything about the set was phenomenal. The drops never disappointed any of the great build-ups he created, and all the transitions were smooth and clean. He also made sure to highlight his brand new single with Calvin Harris, “Under Control”, by playing it as appreciation to the crowd for such a great show. With a relatively longer set at around an hour and forty-five minutes, Alesso never once lost his audience’s focus. A big round of applause to the Swede for putting on a fantastic show and set, and really look forward to his new songs.

Also, I would like to send a huge thank you to React Presents, who ran the show. I can’t say enough good things about how the concert was run so efficiently and smoothly. Make sure to hit them up on Facebook and Twitter as well because they have some pretty sweet upcoming shows in Chicago during December.

Events, Home, Review, Videos | Aokify America: Steve Aoki x Borgore x Waka Flocka Flame (Recap)

Posted by on November 21, 2013

The title says it all – Dim Mak hooked FNT up with passes so that we could cover the show. Steve Aoki, Borgore, and Waka Flocka made a dream team on Saturday night at the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco, and they put on one hell of a show. Check out the media gallery below (especially the POV recap video), and make sure to check out the rest of the tour’s stops before you miss it altogether here.

To give you a better picture of what the concert was like, keep in mind that the show was somehow sold out (it was at the Civic Center in San Francisco, imagine how many people it takes to sell out a concert there). Borgore had an incredible opening set, playing his classics as you’d expect (e.g. Nympho). But, he surprised everyone towards the end of his set when he started dropping some unheard trap and moombahton – some HEAVY trap and moombahton I might add. By this point, everyone was completely riled up – but it doesn’t stop there because just when it seemed like a peak, Borgore brought out Waka Flocka who yelled an entire verse to a wild audience.

But hold up – Steve Aoki starts his set at this point. Mind-blowing is an understatement. Between his stage dives, cake throws, bottle pops, and raft rides, Steve Aoki slapped his bangers so hard that his dad’s restaurants almost went out of business (his dad owns Benihana’s). He played every song that you would wish he would play live. And he killed all of them.

Moral of the story is, if you didn’t go, you missed out. Put Aoki on the bucket list.
