Next Friday marks the beginning of one of the best, still most underrated music festivals in the business: Austin City Limits. Held outdoors in the state capital’s glorious Zilker Park, ACL marks the end of festival season, offering a lineup that pulls artists both big and small from every corner of the planet. On that note, ACL also does a great job at showcasing the underdogs who traditionally end up scoring top slots in big-name festivals the following year. Now a contender in the two-week festival category, you can expect to hear more great music than you’ll know what to do with over the course of the festival, not to mention you’ll be overwhelmed with tough decisions of overlapping artists. Well, lucky for you we picked out a few of the artists you reaaally shouldn’t miss if you end up making the pilgrimage down south. And for those stuck at home watching the live stream, you can use this to your advantage, too. See which artists made the first cut after the break.

Events | Feed Me Brings The Teeth To Terminal 5

feed me terminal 5

When you kick off a tour, you want to do it with a bang. Picking NYC for your city and Terminal 5 as your venue is a great way to kick things off not just me as a biased observer being from the area, but also with its size and impact on dance music. Terminal 5 has one of the best sound systems in the city and that was evident on this night. The low end was so strong during the show that the hairs on my body did not sit still for a second that he was playing. Not sure how the kids up front handled it (lots of drugs probably), but it was one of the most intense bass experiences I have felt, but with the clarity of Terminal 5’s speakers it was easy to take in.

Events | Electric Zoo Announces Sunday School Vinyl Only Stage

Posted by on July 22, 2014

e zoo vinyl stage 2014

This is an announcement for everyone who was born before 1984 and actually listened to vinyls before they became cool. E Zoo is bringing the second half of the Sunday School experience, the Vinyl Only Stage which they inaugurated at Mysteryland, to NYC for the 6th edition of the festival. The expansion of Sunday School follows the trend of the strengthening underground and a growing popularity for house, tech and techno in the past few years. Each day will be hosted by a different purveyor of the plastic, with Behrouz on Friday, Frank & Tony on Saturday and the legend Josh Wink on Sunday. If you want to hear some crisp, clean vinyl, head to the 6th stage for the 6th year anniversary this Labor Day. Tickets are still on sale so grab them here.

Electro-House, Events | Feed Me Psychedelic Journey EP + North American Tour

Posted by on July 11, 2014

feed me psychedelic journeyJon Gooch aka Feed Me or Spor is finally getting ready to go back on the road. After months of working on new material for his various monikers, Feed Me is back out on the road for the summer festival season and has an EP to play for the ride. “Psychedelic Journey” encapsulates the controlled and refined madness that Feed Me brings to the table, ignoring genre tags and gives you the most complex, heavy stuff you will find. It is another master stroke from Feed Me as we wait for already announced album from Feed Me & Spor at some point. Stream three of the four tracks below and grab the EP on Beatport or iTunes.

Go stream the final tune of the EP “Without Gravity” over on DA.

Beatport | iTunes

With the EP he is getting ready to go on tour with a revamped version of the teeth. I have yet to see the teeth, though I have seen Feed Me twice live, so this is going to be a doozy of a tour. He is bringing along supporting acts Treasure Fingers, Delta Heavy, Le Castle Vania and Sotto Voice signees, Tijani & Zeros. Check out the dates after the jump and make sure you grab your tickets here.

Events | Get Stoked: Ookay x Tropkillaz @ Regency San Francisco, TONIGHT

Posted by on July 11, 2014

Ookay

Okay, so it’s about that time of the year where work is pretty much at full-tilt and the novelty of it being summer has just about completely worn off. It’s about that time of the year where you have things planned for later, but right now, you’re just kind of sitting on your ass, waiting for an opportunity to let loose and really get down into that summer groove. Well, if you’re from the Bay Area, that opportunity has finally arrived: class-A trap troll Ookay and Brazilian heavy hitters Tropkillaz are hitting up Regency Ballroom this evening.

This show is going to be absolutely nutsOokay, a seasoned performer, fresh off the stage at EDC Vegas, will no doubt throw down one of the craziest live sets you’ll see this year. He’s also got a pretty sweet sense of humor that he somehow manages to factor into his sets. My personal favorite was when he trolled an entire venue with “Martin Garrix Had A Farm” – see the video evidence below.

As for Tropkillaz, everyone knows things are just a little more edgy in South America. You can count on something massively twerk-tastic from this Sao Paolo-based duo. It’s a bit NSFW, but if you want to see an example of a Tropkillaz show, go and check it out HERE.

So, before it’s too late (because it will get to that point), go and grab your tickets HERE. It’s time to get wild and say you actually did something this summer.

This Sunday, KTU is bringing the biggest stars around to the Izod Center for a Sunday Funday. It will feature Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers, J Lo, Cash Cash and more, so get ready to see a bit of your favorite pop stars. The pre-show will have The Disco Fries spinning for 3 hours, who you may not think fit the “pop” bill, but they did produce 2 of the tunes on Tiesto’s latest album, including “Wasted”. You can grab tickets here.
