mat zo damage control

We have seen some incredible albums this year in dance music. From Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” to Andrew Bayer’s “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” to Disclosure, Pretty Lights, BT, Feed Me, Avicii, Kaskade, Gesaffelstein and Sub Focus’s albums, this year has seen the resurgence of the full length LP. You can now add Mat Zo’s “Damage Control” to that list of stunning albums.

Albums, Compilation | EDM: Every Day Matters Compilation

Posted by on November 9, 2013

The Every Day Matters Compilation is truly amazing. It is a 78 track compilation – that’s right, 78 – with all the proceeds going to charity. The charity being supported is SportRelief, which provides shelter to young people living on the streets and who are victims of domestic abuse in the UK. Worldwide they help with giving education, fresh water, and life-saving vaccines to people. Even though there is such a large volume of tracks, the quality is not sacrificed and it hits multiple genres.  Many well known artists are on it, including Rameses B, Arkasia, Droptek, Felxprod, RoughMath, Feint, TwoThirds, Televisor, T-Mass, Varien, PhaseOne, SirensCeol, PrototypeRaptor, Veela, NCT, Biometrix, Bustre, Muzzy, Subformat, Insan3lik3, Dexcell, Karanda, Elliot Berger, Direct and many more! Some of my favorites tracks besides the ones posted below are the tracks by Neutralize, Soundnet, and Arkasia. But seriously, they are all really great tracks and although the compilation is $16 USD, (£9.99 GPD), you’re definitely getting your money’s worth.  If you want to learn more, you can check out the promo video for the compilation here.

Albums, Hip-Hop | CJ Trillo – Volume 1: Nostalgia

Nearly 2 years ago one of our writers, W8, introduced me to a very dope and underrated artist that is CJ Trillo. Ever since then, I’ve kept CJ projects in heavy rotation due to his pure lyrical originality and smooth productions, which are for the most part created by his right hand man, Jim IE. Today he released his fourth project, Volume 1: Nostalgia. CJ said that this project is everything in him that he’s wanted to release, but was always too self-conscious to in the past. He’s finally reached the point in his artistic career where he’s grown past the concern of how other people view him. With that being said, he has finally allowed himself to vocalize and create all the ideas and vibes he’s wanted to since he first started rapping back in 2009. Listen and download the full project below and get to know CJ in this recent interview about Volume 1: Nostalgia.

Albums, Drum & Bass, Dubstep | Rameses B – Timeless EP

Posted by on October 28, 2013

You can always count on Rameses B to release top quality work. This EP, called “Timeless”, does not disappoint. It features two drum and bass tracks, one more ambient track, and one melodic dubstep track. Being the chill music lover that I am, I’d pick “Never Forget” and “Underwater ft. Meron Ryan” as favorites, but really all the tracks are great. Check it out on Beatport below!

After releasing a handful of free mixtapes and too many singles to count, Huey Mack’s debut album Pretending Perfection is now on iTunes. Over the course of the past 7 months he has been putting in everything he has into creating this project. There is no doubt he has grown as an artist since the days of Bright Lights And Long Nights and Freshman 15. Just look at the constant growing number of fans. The great thing is he has done it all without the help of a label, tour manager or booking agent. Just him and the fans who love what he does. Stream the full album below and support by purchasing it on iTunes!

Albums, Bass, Electronic | Run DMT – Starlight Ft. Betty Black : The Remixes

Posted by on October 17, 2013

This remix EP showcases four dimensions of an extremely powerful song. The original by RUN DMT is deep and heavy, beautifully coordinating Betty Black’s spectral vocals with big driving bass, distant guitar chords and awesome synth plucks. The Kodak To Graph remix is a chilled out and trapped up version that adds sounds reminiscent of Phonat’s style – very cool. Now to the hard hitters. The Dirt Monkey remix is loud and angry. It adds huge, harsh sounds that create an edgy, rough feel while still maintaining some of that juicy emotion from the original. Now, for the remix that, for the time being, comes out ahead as my favourite on the EP. The SPL version starts out with an ambient intro, introducing wicked saxophone sounds. The vocals are whispered into focus and the energy is built up to the mad drum and bass segment that is bursting with energy.  The vocal verse is introduced at the perfect moment in this segment, and is used to carry you through to the next drop which takes on another beat entirely. The remix is epic, really a blast to listen to, and the whole EP is a treat. Literally a treat, as in all of the four massive songs are free to download.
