Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Grip Grand – GG DOOM! BUT HOW?

Posted by on April 24, 2013

GG DOOMA San Francisco native going by the name, Grip Grand, took it upon himself to use 12 different acapellas from the legendary MF DOOM and remix them into this mixtape. MF DOOM, who is known for not being accepting of remixes of his works, actually posted this up on his Facebook, mind blown. After taking a full listen to the mixtape, I understand why the rapper was ok with these remixed works. The beats do not only sound like classic DOOM, but the other samples used in the tracks leave me wondering if he actually played a part in the production of these. Whether or not he actually did (most likely not), it is really cool to see him support remixes of his works like this.

After premiering his track the other day, we finally get the new mix tape from Von La’Flare. While he is still a young new artist, Von shows great promise with his flow. Von’s trap catered sound is a little raw but the tape is still a great listen. Click here to grab the tape or stream it below.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | WoodysProduce – OutKast Remixed Mixtape

Posted by on February 11, 2013

WoodysProduce - OutKast Remixed MixtapeI have been extremely excited for the release of this remix mixtape. WoodysProduce states “OutKast is the greatest duo in music. Ever. Since they are not getting back together anytime soon, I wanted to shed new light on some of my favorite songs and give people some new Kast to bump.” He couldn’t have said it any better. OutKast was amazing, they revolutionized Hip-Hop, and were one of the most influential duos of our generation. Woody revamped 11 great tracks. My top 5 remixes in no specific order are “ATLiens,” “Intl Player Anthem,” “Wheelz of Steel,” “B.O.B.,” and “Jazzy Belle.” Of course, this entire mixtape is awesome, the top 5 of others will differ from mine. My one negative is that I was sad he did not remix “The Way You Move” seeing as it is one of my favorites but this is not a real complaint. Enough chat, Woody provides nostalgia at its finest.

Chill, Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Rap | Jetpack Jones – Afterburners 3 Mini Movie (FNT Exclusive)

Posted by on January 22, 2013

FNT favorite and frequenter Jetpack Jones drops off his longest video to date. Being the fact that it’s quite literally a mini-movie, it spans 7 and a half minutes, but they’re an enjoyable 7 and a half minutes. Jetpack and a few of the homies that will be featuring on Afterburners 3 all star in the movie. The music is on point, my favorite track being the old school sample one that happens after the first encounter with LB, who’s clowning on a statue in King park. Jetpack Jones is the only rapper I know who has been consistently releasing good music for the past two years, and if this is any indication of what his next project will be like, then I can’t wait. Like his facebook page below and check out the video above.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | KURT – Red Carpet Ignorance [Mixtape]

Posted by on January 18, 2013

Four months ago I stumbled across a freestyle over “Next Episode”.  Naturally, I was skeptical of even listening because it’s certainly no walk in the park to bring justice to one of the Doc’s best recipes.  Pleasantly surprised by what I heard, I reached out to Long Island native, KURT with hopes of learning about him and his music.  Describing “Next Episode” as the starting blocks for the next chapter of his story, KURT released this as a promo single for what at that time was his upcoming mixtape, Red Carpet Ignorance.  The feedback was incredible and even KURT himself couldn’t believe the cosigns he was receiving.

KURT transferred the positive energy from his freestyles to his lead single, “No Shame”, which once again garnered some serious attention from local radio DJ’s.  In a recent interview alongside producer WhiteLie, KURT described “No Shame” as a “stripped down banger”, which in a sense was initially made as a joke record.  The rapping-producing duo have been working alongside each other for close to 8 years now diligently building a unified and distinguished sound.

Red Carpet Ignorance was a long time coming, but artistically paints the scene of a young aspiring star walking the red carpet on his premier night.  KURT understands the importance of staying “classy” in the public eye, but also believes celebrating life is also about the occasional asinine or “ignorant” acts.  This mixtape is a culmination of KURT’s premier night.  The first track, “Hallelujah (Intro)” sets the tone for KURT’s journey, as he marches on set with WhiteLie, confidently laying the brick and mortar for the foundation of his throne. RCI features a broad range of sounds, emotions, and energy, but the quality of each individual track is consistent throughout.  Thus far, my personal favorites are “Hallelujah”, “Good Morning Beautiful” which features singer Robbie Nova, “Don’t Need ‘Em” which features an original verse from the O.G. Bun B, “Ignorant Interlude”, and  lastly “City Love Jones”.
