Drum & Bass, Glitch | Upscale Recordings – The Collective EP (Ft. Evoke, Frequent, Masq, Audeka, Paurini, & Spectric)

Posted by on December 1, 2013

Upscale Recordings - The Collective EPDamn, the sub-label of Adapted Records, Upscale Recordings with the goal of sharing strictly Neuro-Hop (Blend of Glitch-Hop and Neuro-Funk AKA Drum & Bass), drops this dirty EP of some of the top up and comers in the newly rising twisted genre. The EP kicks off with an original from Evoke. Carrying the title of the EP, “The Collective” thumps in smoothly, only to progress into that deliciously glitched out funk. Next, Spectric remixes Evoke’s original, adding a few more layers to the mix of the glitch to take you on deep stroll of bass. A commoner on FNT with his Neuro/Trap blends, Masq teams up with Frequent. Their collaboration “Firescape” starts out with a calm, slightly glitchy melodic euphoria, leaving you bumping out at a deep multi-bass layered drop. A larger name and personal favorite of Neuro-hop, come Audeka with a funky remix of Dino Safari’s Breakspeed. This remix has to be my favorite on the EP, I love how deep the bass on this track is and how it maintains the funk with the chill throughout it. Something that KOAN Sound and Asa introduced to the majority of the population on their most recent collaboration EP. Last, but certainly not least, Paurini introduces himself with a chilling original, “Lumberjack”. Paurini is a new name for me, and after hearing this original, I’m blown away. I suspect this is just the beginning of his epic Neuro journey. Neuro-Hop is a genre on the rise, while Dubstep introduces new artists by the minute and becomes more and more repetitive by the minute. “The Collective” EP is a must have, and count on Upscale recordings to introduce countless more great tracks in the future.

Drum & Bass, Pop | Nanobii – Sugar Rush

Nanobii - Sugar RusgFeels like forever since the last time I enjoyed a song with some Japanese-Pop influence, never imagined it would be this addicting, sugary Drum & Bass. Listening to this track reminds me of the first time I heard Mord Fustang’s “Lick The Rainbow”, it’s obviously not the same style but the way the progression and melody play out together puts me into an incredible euphoric instrumental trip. This is just one of those tracks that never stops giving.

Drum & Bass, Dubstep | Masq – Yoko

Masq - Yoko

Masq is back, hitting you straight in face with another epic Neuro blended original. His well organized production and progression of bass on “Yoko” should set the bar for many other aspiring producers. Masq may not be well known…yet, but his skills as an artist are undeniable. This track is not for the feint of heart.

Drum & Bass, Electro | XXYYXX – End of Time (Rework)

Posted by on November 25, 2013

XXYYXX legit kills it – this has been my theme song for a while now. Ever since I saw him live at the DNA Lounge here in San Francisco and got to meet and chat with him, I’ve had a high level of respect for this (then 17, now) 18 year old producer. This is an unofficial song but it’s got to be one of my favorites. So minimal, eerie, and bass heavy all at the same time to submerge you into the crazy world of XXYYXX‘s style – you’ll fall for it instantly.

mat zo damage control

We have seen some incredible albums this year in dance music. From Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” to Andrew Bayer’s “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” to Disclosure, Pretty Lights, BT, Feed Me, Avicii, Kaskade, Gesaffelstein and Sub Focus’s albums, this year has seen the resurgence of the full length LP. You can now add Mat Zo’s “Damage Control” to that list of stunning albums.

Drum & Bass, Dubstep | KOAN Sound, Culprate, Reso, & Asa – Cascade

Posted by on November 4, 2013

KOAN Sound x Culprate x Reso x Asa - CascadeIt’s that great time of year for Inspected again, Movemeber. I’m sure many remember last years gem, “Beyond The Shadows”, which was a collaboration between KOAN Sound, Gemini, Culprate, and Asa. Sadly Gemini didn’t make it on this years Movember track, but the up and coming Neuro-hop producer Reso managed to make a wonderful replacement. In my opinion this is the best line up of artists you could ever see in bass music. This year KOAN Sound and Asa just dropped their breath taking “Sanctuary” EP, Culprate dropped his highly anticipated “The Great Expedition” EP, and Reso is currently cooking up some of the dirtiest bass tracks that he will hopefully be releasing soon. The word ‘cascade’ is defined as, “something arranged or occurring in a series or in a succession of stages so that each stage derives from or acts upon the product of the preceding”. I could not think of a better way to explain the incredible progression this. If you thought last years track was great, “Cascade” will blow you away.

Drum & Bass, Dubstep | Black Sun Empire & Noisia – Hideous (Audeka Remix)

Black Sun Empire & Noisia Remix ContestVoting doesn’t open on Beatport until November 12th and I feel like Audeka already has one the top remixes. This Neuro-hop take on the Neuro-funk original is one hell of a dirty remix. The way the bass pours into your ears is like watching lions hunt, every thump is a gazelle being taking out. Make sure to show Audeka some love on this track, they are more than deserving to dominate the contest with this remix. Voting opens Nov. 12th and closes Nov. 25th.
