Alternative, Indie, Pop | “Hey Hey It’s Your Birthday!!” by DeeCeeDee is a B-day Banger
Posted by VMan on June 21, 2021
Very rarely do I find myself covering Birthday themed music (LOL) but this song is actually pretty sick. NHS nurse Mike Fairbairn, aka DeeCeeDee, releases birthday anthem for the lost parties of lockdown, to raise funds for nurses in financial hardship and to help disabled co-writer and fellow nurse, scammed of £200k. So not only is the song sounding solid but it’s also for a great cause that is well worth it. Tune in to “Hey Hey It’s Your Birthday!!” above now.

Alternative | RUBBER connect with NIC HANSON’ via “REASON THAT YOU CAME HERE”
Posted by VMan on June 3, 2021
Philadelphia’s Rubber have been causing quite the stir in the industry lately, and their latest offering ‘Reason
That You Came Here’ is a track that is too good to ignore. Taking a trip into psychedelica, the funky duo adopt warped synths and electro-pop rhythms that play as a sultry backdrop for the alluring narrative. Sewing sound samples into the lyricism, they use peppered percussion to build up to a killer chorus that is shimmering with gorgeous falsetto harmonies, with a charming attitude akin to that of Anderson.Paak. Complimenting each other in their varying musical tastes, singer Andrew Loper and multi-instrumentalist/producer John Della Franco have struck gold with the track, which features a groove-laden verse from fellow Philadelphian Nic Hanson . “Reason That You Came Here is all about confidence and not giving a flying fuck” Rubber explains,
“It’s about anticipating that feeling of being in a room and having all the eyes on you, being the center of attention, and owning it. Being cooped up this past year has been an intense and tiring experience. For us and many other artists, the return of shows has been the one light at the end of this tunnel that we are desperate to catch a glimpse of. We just booked our first hometown show for June 10th at Sunflower Philly so that light is well within reach now. This song is the perfect capstone to this era of our career, live music is popping up again after this long pandemic winter, andwe will once again be the reason that you came here, to the show, for a night of connective, energetic, eclectic music”.
Alternative, Pop | LaVo Releases Feel-Good Single, “Night Train”
Posted by VMan on May 24, 2021
Bringing back that nostalgic feel-good alt-pop sound, indie artist LaVo returns with a new, more emotionally charged single entitled “Night Train”. The song is about the withdrawals of a relationship and how it feels going through that process, which is unforuntly a feeling that many of us have been through many times, so should resonate with most. Taking inspiration from the likes of Foals, Flume, and Tame Impala, LaVo combines modern styles with a heavy dose of youthful 90s and 00’s pop. Check out a quote from LaVo on the new drop below and stream “Night Train” above now!
“Night Train” Explores themes of loneliness, longing, hope and desperation. It is lyrically mostly about the novelty of love. The sometimes randomness of it all and the serendipity in contrast. Alluding to the sentiment of “The harder you look the less you find”. Exploring the torment of feeling lost yet finding something incredible along the way. This was something personally I had never experienced and looking back on it there still feels no way to prepare for it.
Alternative, Pop | Jessie Reid to release folk-inspired heartbreak single “Wake Up”
Posted by VMan on May 14, 2021
Jessie Reid returns with her new single “Wake Up”, staying true to her signature folk-inspired, percussive fingerstyle guitar style. Her angelic top line smoothly floats on top of the electro-acoustic textures, all of which come together for the perfect storm of sounds. Jessie never fails to deliver poetic, vulnerable lyricism which tugs at your heartstrings, and ‘Wake Up’ is particularly stirring. Discussing the meaning behind her new release, Jessie reveals: “I suppose the song is best summarised by the line ’the harder we try, the closer we get to goodbye’. It attempts to recapture some of the frustrations of unsuccessfully trying to fix a relationship. In a way the lyrics represent what I would have said to myself at that moment in time and telling myself to ‘wake up’ to the reality of the situation. There is a sense of anger in the song in some kind of way and I think this is mirrored in the build up towards the end of the song with the heavier use of electronic instrumentation which is something I don’t usually do!” Tune into her latest release “Wake Up” above now and keep Jessie Reid on your radars!
