Events, Review | Tasty Treat: The Central Coast’s Most Dynamic Duo
Posted by Nick on February 9, 2014
FNT was lucky enough to have a chance to sit down with the up-and-coming Tasty Treat, a SLO-based duo that’s been throwing out bangers together for about the last year. Comprised of 23 & 24-year-old Devin Hardy and John Smith, Tasty Treat’s beginning to gain more and more credibility as an artist, currently getting their reps in on tour with Kicks n Licks of San Diego. With support from big names like Flume, DJ Snake, and Mr. Carmack, this was one opportunity I did not want to miss.
After meeting four years ago and DJ’ing parties under the alias “Casa Street Hooligans,” Devin and John had no idea that they would soon be on track to become one of the most, if not the most, talented electronic musicians in the area. Before Tasty Treat, however, both of them had diverse musical backgrounds, including Devin’s involvement in a high school band called “The Raging Hormones.” I did my best to scour the internet for evidence, and now you can find their hit single “Hindsight” right HERE – it’s pretty special to say the least.
All kidding aside though, Tasty Treat has shown a level of proficiency in a variety genres that most other artists can’t. The two started out with a more electro style, which eventually evolved into a mix of trap and future garage. One of the best examples of this, and possibly their most popular song, is an original track titled “You Got Me.”
To touch on their live performance, it was definitely one of the better sets I’ve seen in a while. Their strong showmanship, mixed with playing in their hometown, produced an intense vibe that was pretty spectacular to watch. Starting out with gLAdiator’s “Ain’t It,” Tasty Treat got the crowed hyped up from the very beginning, and got them even more stoked on some of their own tracks. For example, when John & Devin dropped their “Gas Pedal” remix, everyone was up on their feet, singing along; and when it dropped, the entire venue went absolutely insane.
Overall, Tasty Treat is an artist you need to keep an eye out for, and if you get the chance, to go see live. Already with support from major names so early in their career, John & Devin are right on track to take over the EDM industry, and really show everyone how much they can get you going. Make sure to give them some love on their social media platforms, and be one of the people to get them there.

Bass, Hip-Hop | The Gift – DGAF (prod By Liddicat)
Posted by Nick on February 7, 2014
Big things coming from down under: Australian producer Liddicat just teamed up with Kiwi rapper The Gift to bring you an absolute banger, meeting the standards of some of the biggest names in hip-hop right now; and honestly, it’s a hell of a lot better than some of the more mainstream stuff that’s been coming out recently. With a clear trap influence on the beat, sporting a deep & dark bass line, along with a fresh flow from The Gift, you’re not going to want to miss the free download on this one. Guaranteed most-played song this weekend – get to it.

Hip-Hop | K Theory – Word Is Bond feat. KTSB (NSFW)
Posted by Nick on February 6, 2014
So, like, not to be on a vulgar streak or anything, but this is probably one of my favorite K Theory songs to date, and I’ve been waiting on the release for a while. Definitely about to be your new guilty pleasure, “Word Is Bond” will make you want to sing along for no apparent reason – just make sure you’re alone, because this track is definitely NSFW (see the lyrics in the Soundcloud Description). With big bass and a bold, provocative sound, this song is for sure worth the free download, and a great reason to keep your eye on its San Francisco-based creator(s).

Albums | DJ Prime – Start A F#cking Riot
Posted by Nick on February 6, 2014
It’s been a while since I’ve heard a decent electro-house track: with an industry that’s been somewhat over-saturated with trap and house, this banger is, ironically, pretty refreshing. Straight out of NYC, DJ Prime, the guy who bumped Martin Garrix’s “Wizard” out of the #1 spot on the Hypem Charts with “Big Room Bass,” just threw us a brand new track dubbed “Start A F***ing Riot!” When you turn up, be ready for some anarchy.
Trap | Andrew Luce’s “Humpday Heaters” #3: Bang It To The Curb
Posted by Nick on January 29, 2014
For the third week in a row, EDM wonder-boy Andrew Luce delivers yet another banger under his new Wednesday installment Humpday Heaters. This time remixing Far East Movement’s “Bang It To The Curb,” Luce again shows us his immense potential for success, giving us a brand new obsession to blast for this weekend. Turn up, get loud, and don’t forget to snag a free download/keep an eye out for this kid.

Bass, Trap | Showtek – FTS (SAY MY NAME VIP Remix)
Posted by Nick on January 29, 2014
It’s not everyday that you encounter an artist who in his bio classifies his own music as “one big wet fart,” and then delivers tracks that are up to the caliber (if not above the caliber) of some of the biggest names out there today; so, if you haven’t already heard of SAY MY NAME, now is probably a pretty good time to check him out.
Aside from being able to incorporate a sense of humor into his bass-filled tracks (see the Barney Theme remix [which actually isn’t bad, IMO]), this LA native also has the capacity to make everyone listening want to get on their feet and turn up like there’s no tomorrow. In his most recent track, a VIP of a previously released “FTS” remix, SAY MY NAME throws it up a level, infusing trap and hardstyle elements over three huge drops. Don’t miss the free download on this one, or I promise you’ll regret it.

Chill | Sango – Me de Amor (Feat. Gaiola Das Popozudas)
Posted by Nick on January 23, 2014
I was already impressed by the amount depth Sango shows in all of his work – how he utilizes a skill set that generates records with a completely unique, subtle intricacy that most artists wish they could duplicate. Now, after listening to his brand new album “Da Rocinha 2,” released just this morning, I’ve found myself legitimately struggling not to exaggerate how much I like it so I don’t overhype it for all of you.
Posted below is one of the new tracks off Rocinha 2 (Rocinha is a small farm town in Brazil – notice the Portuguese song titles) that showcases a fresh piano sample mixed with a clean 808 background, most notably with a classic Sango, full-bodied bass line; it’s been titled “Me de Amor,” which roughly translates to “I Love.” If you like it after you listen to it, and believe me, you should, then go check out the full album on Bandcamp – only $1 for 13 well-produced tracks. Doesn’t matter if you’re a rapper looking for something to dub over, or if you just want something chill to bang this weekend, go check this guy out.
