Pop, RnB, Videos | Jon Bellion – Paper Planes
Posted by Grubeats on October 1, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”bC36czHJfTU”/]
One thing I enjoy about blogging is venturing into genre’s I wouldn’t typically dabble with. Since I was first introduced to Jon Bellion, I have tried and tried to pinpoint an artist to compare him to. I’m yet to find one. He is too unique.
Long Island native, Jon Bellion prepares for his debut project under his newly inked deal with Visionary Music Group. After sparking a legitimate amount of buzz with his cover of Drake’s “The Motto“, Bellion returns to the music he was previously accustomed to creating; original compositions. Written and produced by the 21 year old himself, Jon exercises all of his musical talents, while his distinguished voice is really what shines brightest. Camera work credited to VMG’s own, GRVTY, who follows Jon through the winding wilderness in a slow motion shoot. Stay tuned as Translations Through Speakers will be dropping free later this fall.

Albums, Electro, Pop, RnB | Quincy Kwalae & J.T. Roach – Qollab [Free EP]
Posted by Grubeats on October 1, 2012
Often times artists will blend genres and fail miserably. The spike in the popularity of EDM has left hip-hop, pop, and r&b artists with the daunting question of “how to incorporate these new sounds into their music”. Midwest natives, Quincy Kwalae (producer) & J.T. Roach (vocals) crossed paths after graduating college and instantly felt chemistry in their music. While J.T’s background runs deep as an acoustic artist with roots in R&B & Soul, Quincy’s production is native to both hip-hop and EDM instruments. Their debut Qollab EP, Piñata After Party encompasses an infusion the duo’s sounds, creating a compelling new genre of their own.
“The whole project sounds like a wild blend of Trey Songz, Skrillex, The Weeknd & Xaphoon Jones…yet, sounds like none of them at all. Maybe we made a new genre….R&BEDM?” – Q
Although this is just the beginning for these two aspiring artists, they have both been at it for quite some time, which is evident in their music. Although it’s only four new tracks, you’ll hear something new in each one. Slap on some pine tar and take a swing at this musical Piñata, you won’t be disappointed with what you find inside.

Hip-Hop | Devine Carama – White Girl Lost ft. Marcus McClinton
Posted by Grubeats on September 29, 2012
I recently caught wind of Lexington, Kentucky’s Devine Carama, a young artist deeply rooted to hip-hops core. With 10 projects under his belt and another just days away, Devine writes and recites to inspire growth and positivity for the greater good. He has built a respectable resume working with artists and producers signed to some of hip-hop’s truest talent (9th Wonder, 88 Keys, Canibus, etc.), but it’s his music that has me talking about him today.
The forth and final song from his upcoming Nas tribute mixtape, It Was Rewritten, is a twist of Nas’ “Black Girl Lost”. Carama’s “White Girl Lost“, features Chicago crooner Marcus McClinton and is produced by 2 Mello. Below is what the man himself had to say about the record;
“This is a song that deals with racial perception. Racism isn’t always based off of hate, but sometimes ignorance. This song tells two stories of a young white girl with misguided perceptions when it comes to their affection for the black male. I’m from Kentucky so I have personally dealt with this situation several times. We as African American men in the south are often viewed in misguided and false perceptions. I wanted to shed light on this particular aspect of racism. At the end of the day don’t judge people off their religion, race, gender, etc. Just get to know people and love or hate them for who they are not what they are.”

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Logic – Steps Back Radio Freestyle ft. Mikkey Halsted
Posted by Grubeats on September 28, 2012
Young Sinatra: Undeniable went platinum on Datpiff earlier this week, surpassing 250k downloads. Logic’s been grinding out in LA since he capped off his debut VMG tour in NYC just over a month ago. Life is good for the Maryland kid. Knowing the level of demand for new Logic these days, DJ Don Cannon fire this freestyle off, which will be featured on his upcoming “Steps Back Radio” mixtape. Splitting bars with veteran Windy City hot spitter, Mikkey Halsted, the two lyrically rip this one to pieces. Hopefully this holds you over until an official release from Logic coming within the next couple months!
Hip-Hop, Pop | iSH – Never Gonna Let You Go ft. Esthero (THR3MIX)
Posted by Grubeats on September 28, 2012
The Toronto rhymesayer returns after receiving great feedback on his remix of “Demons” featuring e-dubble. Continuing strong with his THR3MIX series, iSH adds his verses to fellow Toronto native, Esthero’s full hearted melody, “Never Gonna Let You Go“. If you’re a sucker for key driven production, a pure vocal hook, and complementing verses, you’ll be a sucker for this one.
Pop, Videos | Timeflies Tuesday: Taylor
Posted by Grubeats on September 27, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”tKOQYstfozs”/]
Fittingly enough, Rez picked up a new Taylor guitar, just in time for their Tuesday release. With her two new singles, Taylor Swift is just about as hot as one can get right now, so why not cover her lead single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”. With Rez on the strings, Cal sings away reminding us how pure his vocals are. Don’t worry T-Swift, Timeflies got you.
On another note, Timeflies will be performing tonight at the House of Blues in Boston, so grab your tickets before they sell out!
Hip-Hop | Azad Right – So Impatient ft. Lexy Panttera

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”b6FgoXfgY8c”/]
Paying homage to one of the best to ever do it, Azad Right drops his version “So Impatient” over classic J Dilla with the newest installment of #GetRightTuesdays. Azad opens up on this track, [earmuffs children] rolling out some R-rated rhymes addressing what he’s looking for in a lady right now. Attempting to put his “Frank Ocean spell” on the female fan base, this is just another taste of Azad’s versatile artillery.
