Hip-Hop | Moufy – One Day (Prod. by Almari)
Posted by Grubeats on December 2, 2012
After taking an extended hiatus, Moufy understands he has work to do to earn back the loyalty of his Star Gang supporters. The Boston MC was anticipating a 2012 release for his debut EP, Humble Season, but after making some changes within his inner circle, the release was delayed and thereafter can be expected to drop early in 2013. “One Day” marks the first official release off the EP and harnesses an unparalleled sense of desire and motivation. Mighty Moufy may have a heavy load on his shoulders, but the young gunner is extremely eager to prove to all of us why it’s his time to shine.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Tayyib Ali – Like Dat [Music Video]

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”bIvvZjBAC1w”/]
Many of us have been starving for a new video from young Tayyib Ali and after a year long visual hiatus. After releasing “Like Dat”, the first single off his highly acclaimed sequel mixtape to Keystone State of Mind, a few months back, Tay teams up with FTS Creative to add a visual treatment to the reflection track. With production coming from 52 Kings, Philly’s prince reflects on his life and career while riding smoothly on a clean set of trucks. No release date set for #KSOM2 just yet, but I know how anxious Tay is to share his new music with us so I would presume a first quarter ’13 release.

Pop, RnB, Videos | Sebastian Mikael – “Gonna Be Real” & “What’s Going On” [Live Acoustic Performance]

Remember that incredibly talented singer/songwriter/musician who attended Berklee College of Music and went by the name “De-Lor“? Well that young star has gone through a few small transformations in the past several months, including a brand repositioning move, now performing under his birth name, Sebastian Mikael. More significantly, Sebastian has found himself in the spotlight after inking a deal with Slip-N-Slide Records, an imprint of Sony’s Epic Records. Prepping for his 2013 full length studio debut, the Swedish sensation provides an acoustic treatment for “Gonna Be Real” and “What’s Going On” live at Brooklyn’s Converse Rubber Tracks Studios. Both yet to be released, “Gonna Be Real” is an original track, produced by the Grammy Award Winner, Jim Jonsin, who I hear has been cooking up some heat with Sebastian and the second track is a soulful cover of Stevie Wonder’s “What’s Going On”. In addition to working with Jim Jonsin, Sebastian has been rumored to be in sessions with Rico Love and other notable producers, artists, and songwriters.

Sebastian has the ability to break into various genre’s, but for me, his impassioned sound is what makes these acoustic performances so captivating. With that being said, I can GUARANTEE he has a variety of HEAT coming very soon.
Interviews | Music Talks Presents: Schoolboy Q – Sex, Drugs, and Hip-Hop

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”s8WsdaLluGk”/]
Music Talks is back with their newest interview, mining into the mind of West Coast rapper and TDE affiliate, Schoolboy Q. Touching on everything from the birth of Q, to his favorite munchies, to his career goals. The Black Hippy is hopeful that his fans will stay as passionate about his music as he will for Mary Jane. Judging by the peanut butter response from Q, it’s fair to say some of is die hard fans are hungry for more than just his music. His response to “The person I look up to most is ____,” caught me off guard. I expected the LA native to respond with a West Coast legend, but you can’t knock Diddy’s success as an artist and a businessman.
With Mac Miller, Avicii, and now Schoolboy Q in the books, prepare yourself for Baauer and Macklemore x Ryan Lewis coming in the next few weeks.

Hip-Hop, Review | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: Live In Boston [Concert Review]
Posted by Grubeats on November 26, 2012
Thanksgiving came one week early for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis fans, as the duo energetically turned the sold out House of Blues into their musical cornucopia. As the sun set and the brisk Boston air settled, fans from all over New England lined Landsdowne Street hours before the doors opened, hoping to grab a spot close enough to catch a drop of Macklemore’s sweat. Many stood dressed in character, more than likely raiding their grandmother’s closet or the local Goodwill earlier in the day to find the freshest fur. Some went as far as cutting their hair to match that of the #SharkFaceGang captain. It’s amazing how dedicated fans can be.
With hopes of bypassing the line and making my way into the heated venue a bit earlier than the rest, I stopped at the box office only to find the media list was still “under construction.” With time to spare, I snapped some pictures of the infamous Heist Tour Bus, detailed with everything from a mountain goat to a cactus to a Paul Wall grill, before spotting young Ben Foley of Swaggernaut Productions. As Ben and I chopped it up, we noticed Ryan Lewis grabbing a breath of fresh air out of the venues side door. As fans remained oblivious of their idols presence, we calmly let the man enjoy a moment of tranquility before it was his time to drop the needle on the vinyl.
