Hip-Hop | OnCue – Live Forever ft. Skizzy Mars
Posted by Grubeats on April 3, 2013
We’ve seen several artists come into their own here at FNT. Many of which have signed records deals, had major hits, or seen a massive spike in their social following (I’m not referring to the ones who cheated and bought the numbers). Although Cuey has not yet had “that moment” per say, he has remained one of the most consistent, hungry, even keeled artists we feature. His head remains above the water while he plots his next move. He continues to develop with every release and is a true artist of his craft. His highly anticipated project, Angry Young Man, has been in the works for several months now and although this cut will not be on the project, it’s reassurance that it will be a worthwhile wait. You have to let the marinate to harness the flavors, right?

After teasing fans with an April fools version of “I Choose U”, Cal and Rez treat their fans with a full length visual release, sans the goat. One of the perks of having a major label behind you is music videos with a budget. Pretty little extras, visual effects, dashboard hula dancers, you know – “the works”. Have you asked your female friends lately what they think of Timeflies? Do it. Chicks are in a frenzy over this electro-hip-pop powerhouse duo. “I Choose U” is just icing on the cake. Cue the “Girl Fire” tag, this one’s going viral.

Allow me to christen your lobes with the sounds of 1st Round Record’s newest artist, Bridge. The 21-year old singer/songwriter/occasional rap verse spitter, nests among the stars of Los Angeles, but makes it very clear on this track his confidence and talent eclipse’s hundreds of other aspiring artists striving for fame in the same city. “Do Ya Right” is an edgy, confident pursuit of that dreamy dime every man strives for. Stay tuned as Bridge prepares for the release of the second installment of his trilogy series, Creature Of Habit, due out April 10th.

Hip-Hop | Jeff Replay & Nick Gray – Know Love [Music Video]

After a high octane first single, “Runway” Boston’s next prodigy switches gears and delivers a conscious relationship record with Nick Gray. Replay’s passion for rollin’ up may put you on a cloud while listening, but don’t let it distract you so much to miss the love train, if that is in fact what you’re searching for. Jeff and Nick’s collective efforts will be showcased on Pilot Nation’s debut mixtape, Expensive Heat, dropping free tomorrow. For the time being, enjoy “Know Love”.

Hip-Hop, Indie | Aer – Strangers [Free EP]
Posted by Grubeats on March 25, 2013
I feel guilty for sitting on this for the past week without posting. I’m sure the loyal Fresh Aer breathers have already inhaled this free EP, but for those who haven’t, I highly suggest taking a long deep breath and listening through.
With summer around the corner (hopefully) for us Northerners, Aer decides it’s only right to share some freebies with their fans to honor their continued loyalty. Although these may only be low tide tracks in comparison to what they’re going to hit us with this summer, I’ve looped this in full at least once daily since it dropped. Fire. With features from Mod Sun & Guy Harrison and production from Ratatat, Pete Rock, mattMIGGZ, and of course instrumental work by David and Carter themselves, you’d be foolish to pass on this.

After months of anticipation, the Cali bred rapper, Azad Right, lands back on our screens with his newest visual set, “Showtime”. Equipped with a ferocious mentality to prove his abilities as a rapper, Azad straps on a camera rig and takes us for a trip around L.A. From Santa Monica to the depths of Hollywood, Azad shows that there is a right way to create soulful, substance heavy hip-hop. “Showtime” is attached to Azad’s upcoming project, For The Hopeful, slated for a late spring release. Production compliments of Jonathan Marquez.
Albums | Jared Evan x Statik Selektah – Boom Bap & Blues [Album]
Posted by Grubeats on March 6, 2013
Although the prominent age of Boom Bap is now overshadowed by electro beats and radio ready production, the subgenre is far from dead. Statik Selektah is by no means a “Boom Bap” producer, but his versatility sheds light on the masked style. Jared Evan sings from his soul. He raps from his soul. That’s his style. Collectively, the duo have collaborated on their joint LP, Boom Bap & Blues. Together they have resonated a combination of genre’s that mainstream music is missing.
There’s no question the features will catch your eye (Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, Lil Fame, Termanology…), but Jared’s versatility alone is worthy of repeated play. Props to you Mr. Evan and Mr. Selektah, this is one hell of a project.
