Dubstep, Hip-Hop | Gramatik ft. Jay Fresh- Solidified
Posted by A on April 3, 2012
Dallas’s lone hip-hop prodigy, Jay Fresh, is back at it again. This time, he’s teamed up with Pretty Lights artist Grammatik to bring the undeniable heat. Inspired by a recent green room jam session, “Solidified” is a product of the incontrovertible chemistry between both of the artists.
Not to be outdone, Gramatik recently dropped a brand new six song EP entitled “#digitalfreedom” through Pretty Lights Music. Predicated on the idea that thoughts, freedom of speech, and online creativity can’t be suppressed, the project is undoubtedly a testament to that creed. As a bonus, I’ve included a download link to the entire project. All hail #digitalfreedom!

Hip-Hop | Kendrick Lamar ft. Dr. Dre – The Recipe
Posted by A on April 2, 2012
“Every morning when I wake up (uh)/ Money on my mind, go time to get caked up (uh)/ Sunshine coming through my blinds, I’m living but/ Really though, it’s never enough, $10 billion, that’s a must.”
Kendrick Lamar releases his highly anticipated first single sampling Twin Sister’s “Meet The Frownies” from his upcoming TDE/Aftermath/Interscope debut album scheduled to drop later this year. From the harmony of the chorus to the almost hypnotizing sample of Twin Sister’s singing, the synergy between the two artists leaves a burning impression in my musical memory bank. This is true musicianship.
Review | A Night Out With…Sex Ray Vision & Basic Physics
Posted by A on April 1, 2012
“You’re joining us for dinner at Mr. Masero, right?” Lauren Saks-Merriman, CEO and co-founder of Black Book Music Group, asks as I prepare for Basic Physics and Sex Ray Vision’s set at Rio Room in Dallas. “Of course” I respond. “What time would you like to meet?”
“What would you like to drink?” asks the bartender as I wait in anticipation for their arrival. I look at my watch, I’m ten minutes early. What was I thinking, I murmur to myself. Artists are always late. “Make that another”, I request of the bartender. He obliges kindly.
Suddenly, Ravi Parikh of Sex Ray Vision and Alex Syse of Basic Physics walk in accompanied by a Lauren Saks-Merriman, who happens to be pregnant. She’s a mere four weeks away from her due date and she’s texting the promoter furiously while wearing a tan blazer. “They’re trying to cut our set short” she explains. Basic Physics, sitting to my left chimes in with an easy confidence “We’ll just have to prove ourselves. I’m not concerned.”
Electronic | Clinton Sparks Performs w/ DJ Tiesto @ Mohegan Son
Posted by A on March 30, 2012
Boston’s own, Clinton Sparks is a man that embodies all things awesome. From hosting television shows on E! to being nominated for his work on Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” it seems 2012 has been his year. Just a few weeks ago, Clinton released “My Awesome Mixtape 2” a torrid dance mix that took the electronic dance world by storm. Once solely a hip-hop producer, Clinton has begun to focus on electronic music as of late, diligently carving out a lane all his own.
Clinton shows no signs of stopping, as he’s already gearing up for “My Awesome Mixtape 3” slated to drop in May. Next week, you can expect the full version of “My Own Worst Enemy” to drop as well as a possible “Climax” remix in the near future. Be on the look out for his upcoming single “Watch You” featuring Pitbull and Disco Fries coming soon. 2012 may be just be the year of Clinton Sparks. Get Familiar!
Mixtapes | Stalley- Savage Journey to the American Dream
Posted by A on March 30, 2012
Although I didn’t know Stalley was still a thing, Rick Ross continues to put his weight behind “Savage Journey to the American Dream” that’s chalked full of features from Rick Ross, Meek Mill, and other weed carriers that work for Maybach Music. The best cuts can be found below. M-M-Maybach Music!

Interviews | Nardwuar vs. Young Jeezy
Posted by A on March 30, 2012
“Especially not in the pool. The only thing I ref in the pool is the women.”
Says Young Jeezy, regarding his swimming abilities. I’m not surprised, as Young Jeezy is likely too busy selling drugs to learn how to swim. That Young Jeezy sure has a captivating personality, as Nardwuar pulls out the usual stops to talk about things that happened ten years ago. No wonder why Jeezy’s “TM103” flopped. Just another rapper taking themselves way too seriously. Kanye shrug. Below are my favorite comments:
Hip-Hop, Videos | Sammy Adams- SummerTime
Posted by A on March 29, 2012
“Single doesn’t mean I’m looking for somebody”
Just last week, we had the opportunity to catch up with Sammmy Adams while he was in Dallas. During the catch up, Sammy was gracious enough to play a few select cuts from his forthcoming album, all of which were huge. Although there’s no set release date on the album yet, he’s dropped a new track entitled “Summertime” for the fans that you can preview above. As a bonus, we’ve included pictures from his Dallas show at The Palladium last weekend!
