Chill, House | U.S. Royalty – Into the Thicket (Dino Remix)

Posted by on June 2, 2014

I’m really excited to share this song with you for a multitude of reasons, one being that it beautifully redefines what typically comes to mind when you hear the words “Swedish” and “house.” This track from Stockholm-based producer, DINO, is a delightful, summery indie house remix to U.S. Royalty’s “Into The Thicket,” perfectly integrating that American folk feel with an electric beat. Categorize this under “Songs to Listen to While Driving at Sunset With the Windows Down” and you won’t regret it.

Bass, Chill, Electro | Sevyn Streeter (ft. Chris Brown) – It Won’t Stop [Manila Killa & Hunt For the Breeze Remix]

Posted by on May 28, 2014

Right about now is the time of the year when all artists kick it in to overdrive with their output of summer-friendly music. A few days ago, Manila Killa and Hunt for the Breeze took to Sevyn Streeter and Chris Brown’s song, “It Won’t Stop” to give it their own special treatment.

With a sound reminiscent of Trippy Turtle, Manila Killa and Hunt for the Breeze bring a jazz-infused and groovy flare to the song. The vocals of Streeter and Brown are incorporated flawlessly with Jersey Club-type synths and breaks.

Enjoy the refreshing track, and toss it on this week’s playlist.

Hip-Hop, Rap | PELL – Floating While Dreaming

Posted by on May 27, 2014

Perhaps it’s the recycled subject matter, or the false need for a DJ Mustard beat, but it’s clear that many people are dissatisfied with the current state of hip-hop. It takes much more soul (Internet) searching to sift through the piles of gimmicky rappers that cloud our ears every day.

This past week rapper, PELL, did his part in clearing up the cloud. The release of his mixtape Floating While Dreaming proved to be both versatile and enjoyable to listen to. His melodic voice, accompanied by a slew of assonance-laden rhymes allows the tape to flow together with incredible cohesion.

PELL jumps between technical rapping and poppy hooks, and even shows his darker side on songs like, “SC2014”, featuring Boldy James.

When PELL spits: “It’s hard to stay loyal when there’s thousands who adore you.” it is hard not to think that those thousands will very soon be millions.

Chill, Indie, Pop | Under Great Lights – This Must Be Love

Posted by on May 18, 2014

In a world bogged-down by overbearing production and manufactured radio hits, it seems as if I’m always gasping for a breathe of fresh air. Lucky for me, and for you, today my lungs (ears) were filled with the soundings of Nashville band, Under Great Lights.

The group has been recording music for several years, and have just recently decided to take to the masses with their playful, and upbeat sound. Featuring smooth male vocals and reggae-infused guitar riffs, the quotable and lighthearted lyrics are icing on the cake. Kick off your summer playlist the right way with “This Must Be Love”, and enjoy plenty more that is to come.

Electronic | Hermitude – Ukiyo

Posted by on April 17, 2014

The legendary Australian electronic-meets-hip-hop duo Hermitude dropped this brand new track titled “Ukiyo” yesterday in anticipation of their upcoming next album release. It’s honestly just a really nice, different, refreshing sort of sound, the kind that you want to hear all day long because it keeps your blood pumping and your spirits high. I’m getting excited just thinking about an entire album featuring this sort of style. While you might recognize these guys from that infamous Flume remix, which I have to admit is in fact one of my favorite tracks of all time, do take the time to check these guys out as artists, it’ll be worth your time.

Electronic | Midnight Pool Party – Linger

Posted by on April 16, 2014

Well folks, it’s the middle of April which means it took me an entire four months to find a new artist to start obsessing over (2014, get your shit together!). But it seems my hunting has come to a end, well temporarily, of course, as I would like to introduce you all to Midnight Pool Party. This band comes from where else other than the down under: Sydney, to be exact. Their style is summarized by a contagious, feel good, retro disco sound, or better put in their own words, a “potent cocktail of funky guitar licks, infectious keys and swoonsome choruses.” Their latest single, “Linger” and all its remixes (especially Luke Million’s) is a great starting place to fall in love with these party people, and once you’re ready for more, you can catch up with me over on their Miami Horror “Real Slow” remix as I’ve had it on repeat for about a week now. They’ve got their tracks available for free download so you can cop them, play them for your friends, and all dance until you drop.
