Progressive House | Galantis – You (Young Bombs Remix)

Galantis - You (Young Bombs Remix)

Progressive house music, but even more so the performance of the everyday dishwasher are two things that I am not easily impressed by. Galantis’ “You” was huge and none of the official remixes could better it. Get ready to be impressed by a new duo out of Vancouver by the name of Young Bombs who have come as close as anyone will to topping the original. They said they wanted to add a “hopeful, uplifting vibe” to contrast the dark tone of the original and they have succeeded in doing so. My one criticism is that it is not mixed/mastered as well as it could be, but for their first release, it is understandable. With their debut track as great as this, there is sure to be good things to come for this Canadian duo.

Progressive House | Tom Staar & Ansolo – Totem

Tom Staar & Ansolo - Totem
I told you the story of Ansolo and FNT in my last post so it is incredible to see him with his mentor Tom Staar releasing a tune on one of the most prestigious dance labels around, Size Records. We have seen a return to the bounce in dance music, not just what Melbourne has been doing for quite some time that is making waves across the world, but also groovier bass lines finding their way back into big time dance music. This tune has it all with an irresistible low end and a surprisingly soothing melody all wrapped up with strong tribal influences. It has already hit number 10 on the iTunes dance chart, so grab “Totem” below.

Above & Beyond feat. Alex Vargas - Blue Sky Action
The sky is blue and you should too. Ok that made no sense, but it doesn’t matter. Above & Beyond are thankfully much better at just about everything music related than me, including songwriting, and “Blue Sky Action” is their latest tune that is pitch perfect for the summer months. It is the first single from their upcoming album, out early next year so get your mind and bodies ready for that.

Review | Mike Stud – Closer [Album]

Mike-Stud-Closer-Album

Studnation is back and it appears Mike is closer than he’s ever been with his latest album, Closer. In May, Mike released a video to let his fans know about his new album release. The teaser reflects on the journey Mike has made from being a star baseball prospect to an even bigger prospect as a musician. This album shows growth and maturity in Mike’s life and music. He is most focused on being happy and letting the success follow. Does he have room to grow and improve? Most certainly he does, but even Mike knows he has a long journey ahead of him.

Ambient, Chill, RnB | The GTW – Calling Cards

Posted by on July 16, 2014

Genres are dumb. Especially when it comes to a talent such as The GTW. Nigerian-born, and Chicago-bred, The GTW pulls influences from enumerable locations in to his music. A voice tender enough to put you to sleep, yet intriguing enough to keep you begging for, more fills the pockets of the contemporary production it’s put on top of.

The African-elements to the music are evident, each different addition to the soundscape warm and comforting. I could ramble endlessly trying to decipher what The GTW’s sound is exactly, but it’s probably best for you to take a look at the video above.

Alternative, Chill | Prelow – Mistakes Like This

Posted by on July 16, 2014

It takes a lot for an alternative or indie band to stick out to me. My ear isn’t particular honed in this genre, and I never like to point people in the direction of an artist or song that isn’t amazing. Luckily for me and you, I have no qualms telling you the Prelow is one of the most exciting and intriguing Indie bands out right now, period.

With only three songs in the entirety of their catalogue, the New York duo has shown us many sides and an incredible amount of talent.

Their most recent song “Mistakes Like This” is another huge leap forward in their music. The blunt chorus immediately stands out to listeners, contrasted against the tender verses. Take a listen below to the all-to-relatable song.

And my dick takes over,
and I’m thinkin’ about your lips,
but we’re too damn sober,
for mistakes like this.

Electronic, Trap | Phazz – Lionheart

Posted by on July 11, 2014

By now, you should already be familiar with French producer Phazz and the majority of his repertoire, so allow me to introduce you rather to the startup label that brings us this fresh new track. Meet youtellme, a London based platform focused on sharing music from eclectic, genre-defying artists from all over the map. This addicting electronic-trap jam is the first release off their freshman compilation volume, which features a superb variety of artists that you hopefully haven’t yet heard of but won’t be able to stop listening once you do. Trust me, youtellme is telling you the right things to listen to.
