Electro, Electronic, Future Funk, Future House | Listen as Take A Daytrip Ventures to Los Angeles in “Calling”

Posted by on July 28, 2015

Calling - Daytrip

The duo Take A Daytrip (formerly Daytrip) have taken a small hiatus from their travels of the world. Perhaps they were homesick, perhaps they were tirelessly in the studio, but regardless, they are back.

Today, Take A Daytrip ventures out to the sunny shores of Los Angeles. Pulling inspiration from funk and dance music alike, Take A Daytrip create a unique sound spectrum of intense synths and powerful guitar.

Like most of their solo work to date, the song tells a story and through the twisted vocals and highs and lows of the song we can pull out emotion and meaning. Read what the song means to each of the members, and listen to “Calling” below.

“‘Calling’ was inspired by our time working on music in Los Angeles last fall. We started to discover that what we’d spent years doing for fun was beginning to make people beyond our friends and family take notice. Exciting opportunities, challenges, and distractions all presented themselves. We realized we’d have to sacrifice some things we love in order to turn our passion into a full time job.” – DenZ

“The track starts with the excitement and the feeling of purpose when you find your calling, but ends in the solace and recognition of what you’re forced to leave behind.” – Hugh Cosby

Chill, Electro | Mary J Blige – Real Love (Softest Hard Remix)

Posted by on May 4, 2015

Softest Hard has been popping up across the music world for several years now and it seems that she has settled in to her spot as a talented producer and DJ. Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Softest Hard is currently based in Los Angeles. Her remix of Mary J Blige’s “Real Love” is soft and gentle while still being intriguing and exciting to listen to.

It’s no small feat to take on an MJB classic, and luckily Softest Hard did it justice.

Abstract Hip-Hop, Hip-Hop, Videos | Christian Deshun Capitalizes On Kendrick Lamar Taking Instrumental

When Los Angeles Based Christian Deshun first heard To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar a weird sense drifted over him. Upon reaching “Momma”, Christian realized that K. Dot had used an instrumental that he released last year on his EP SMPLCTY. It was on a record titled “Thank You”, which was produced by buzzing producer KNXWLEDGE. But instead of it bringing him down and feeling haste, Christian had felt honored that him and K. Dot have the same ear sort of feeling as a pioneer. “If K. Dot liked this now, and I recorded this last year this sort of makes me ahead of my time as an innovator”, stated Christian.

Well two weeks after this debacle, Christian released a video titled “Undisclosed”. This was recorded at a time when Christian and his Friends where financially broke and hanging out in a decrepit building off the beaten path. But even though they were financially unstable, they were intellectually rich. The meaning “Undisclosed” came from the fact that you couldn’t find this house even if you tried, it would not register in a GPS device.

For now the future looks bright for the budding star out of LA. Hoping to put Louisiana on the map via Los Angeles he definitely carries the character, drive, and personality to attain these goals.

Mainstream Remix | Rad Stereo Remixes “The Notorious B.I.G. Ft. 112’s – Sky’s The Limit”

Posted by on March 9, 2015

Newcomer producer duo, Rad Stereo, deliver a funky rendition of the classic Notorious B.I.G. record “Sky’s The Limit” and remix it to indy dance perfection. Perfect timing too, today marks the anniversary of Biggie’s death (March 9, 1997). Based in Los Angeles, the futuristic Rad Stereo boys have a sound that truly holds no classification or genre identity. They’ve remixed every one from Earth, Wind & Fire to Milky Chance, with official remixes for Kiesza and Capital Cities. You can expect a ton of music from them in 2015, including a slew of original records that are ready for release. Shout out to to Interlock!

Jersey Club | Venessa Michaels ft Kiana Brown – Touch Me

Today’s track discovery is by Venessa Michaels, a producer from Los Angeles, which reminds me of an edgier Ariana Grande or Mariah Carey track, and when I mean edgy, I mean a more trendier sound. Kiana Brown lends her vocals to the Jersey Club/future house production, and the finish product makes for a quality record that could very well crossover to the pop world. I’m a fan of this, and I’m surprised it has so little plays, this is a must listen and a must download!
