Dubstep, Electro, Electro-House, Preview | Feed Me – Death By Robot EP
Posted by Mach on January 10, 2013
Feed Me (AKA Spor) has been very busy the past months, it’s not easy being the CEO of Deadmau5′ record label, Mau5trap, while owning your own Drum & Bass label, Lifted. You can tell he enjoys his work though, which is why this next EP of his will be just as good as the last. Every new EP of his seems to reflect different styles. I don’t think he’s lost but I do believe he loves trying any and everything. His new EP title track “Death By Robot” sounds like it is going to be the best Electro-House track he has ever done. I know that is a tall order, but just from this small clip I am dying to have a full copy. “Gravel” is a dirty sounding Electro and Tech-House blend. Could be a little repetitive for some, but I feel like in a live setting it is just what the doctor ordered. “Dial Up Days” was a little hard for me to decipher, it’s Dubstep but Breakbeat but also Nu-Dance. Besides confusing this turned out to be a really cool, not your usual, laid back tune to dance to. Only six days away, Feed Me’s new EP releases on January 6th.
Dubstep, Glitch, House, Review | Teknian – Sonic EP
Posted by Mach on January 7, 2013
We’re only a week into 2013 and already Teknian has delivered the first quality EP of the year. Having only announced the EP about a few weeks ago, and seeing a tracklist containing all tracks that fans of his have been dying for, I knew this EP was going to be sick to say the least. People in the music forums have been requesting the starter track, “1984,” for some time now. I had never found a clip of it to listen to so I didn’t understand what all the hype was about. Now that I have listened to it, I can see why everyone was dying for the release of this fun 80s style Glitch-Hop track. Next, “Behemoth,” which has to be my favorite on the EP, actually has a cool story. Back when Avicii’s “Fade Into Darkness” remix competition was going on, “Behemoth” was the instrumental to Teknian’s remix. After he realized how awesome his instrumentals were, he pulled the track out of the competition and delivered a heavy bass blow to our eardrums. “Sonic” is another track I have only heard stories about. It starts out like Drum & Bass, leaving you to think it might turn into Neuro-Funk. Like a B0:55, Teknian drops the bass leaving you speechless to this Dubstep fire. The last track on the EP was a complete surprise to all those anticipating its release. Teknian has been known to troll and produce outside his usual styles, but to have a house track like this one just hanging out amongst a sea of bass seemed ridiculous. “You Make Me So” is actually one of the funkiest Deep House tracks I have laid my ears upon and is a lot of fun to listen to. The “Sonic” EP is a great success, and in my opinion, Teknian did an incredible job.

Albums | Skrillex – Leaving EP

For those of you who have been lamenting the lack of new Sonny Moore material in recent months, the wait is now over: we’ve got a brand spankin’ new EP from The Little Guy to blast, compare to his past productions, and generally over analyze (“But why doesn’t this sound more like ‘Reptile?’ Ugh, I hate the direction he’s going in now.”) The only catch? To download it, you have to sign up for The Nest, OWSLA’s recently announced digital subscription service that gives you access to early downloads, VIPs, unreleased material, and much more from Team OWSLA.
The EP itself is short but quite diverse. It opens on its most high energy note with “The Reason,” a hard and catchy four minutes of electro house that make heavy use of those trademark choppy vocals. We also get a funky, midtempo trap-influenced breakdown — since trap is officially the most ubiquitous thing happening in electronic music at the moment. From there, it’s onto “Scary Bolly Dub,” a dub reboot of “Scary Monsters” which will be immediately familiar to anyone who’s caught Skrillex live in the past few months. Finally, the title track, which is restrained, darkly melodic, and downtempo; thanks to garage-influenced breakbeats, it’s illustrative of Skrillex’s range as a producer. Yes, to gain access to this EP you must take on the monthly subscription fee to The Nest, but if you’re a serious fan of OWSLA’s work it will be a small price to pay.

House | Jeremy Olander – Pusher / Put Out
Posted by Middy on December 24, 2012
Pryda Friends Protégé, Jeremy Olander in the giving spirit of the holiday season, just as he did last year, has decided to give out another two track EP for free. Both tracks stay true to Jeremy Olander’s production style of chugging bass lines and progressive ebb and flows, with “Put Out” emphasizes rapidly developing melodies and subtly quivering key play, while “Pusher” gives us one of his more energetic productions that builds and builds with its driving bass line and powerful synths. With recent productions like “Norrsken” and “The Rose Law / Rorschach EP“, Jeremy Olander is finishing out 2012 very strong and with the Frisky Radio showcase below, the future is incredibly bright for 2013 and beyond with 16 unreleased tracks from him in the mix. Tracklist after the jump.

Pop, Videos | Timeflies – Swoon [Music Video]

I never realized how awkwardly entertaining life looks in rewind until I watched this video.
Awkward or not, Timeflies have themselves yet another hit. The caveman club smash featured on their recent chart topping EP, One Night, is almost as cool at the dime piece pole dancing swooning on the American flag in the backdrop of this video. Anyone else feel like “swoon” is one of those interchangeable adjectives that can virtually be placed anywhere in a sentence? Verbs too, actually. Swoon over to iTunes and cop this track along with the rest of Timeflies’ irresistible EP for a loose $3.99!

Electro-House | Dzeko & Torres – Hey EP
Posted by Middy on December 18, 2012
Toronto duo, Dzeko & Torres make their Dim Mak debut with a three track EP comprised of two new records, “Hey” and “Check This Out”, as well as the previously released for free download “Buppy”. “Hey”, highlights the tougher side of their sound, using a prolonged riser and grungy low end. “Buppy”, the free download, continues along the vein of harder electro tracks that this EP brings to the table as a standout Dim Mak release with its punchy bass line and grinding synths. “Check This Out” brings together a distorted bass line with high pitched synths and what would a track be without an air horn? Interview to come later this week with the guys, you will want to stick around for this one.
