Hip-Hop | Upper West – Summer Funk (Good Ol’ Days) [Official Video]

Posted by on August 21, 2012

Upper West always has some of the catchiest choruses and beats, and this brand new Summer Funk track is no different. Sampling the classic Mungo Jerry track, they add that Upper West touch and make it their own. Doug adds some quality verses on this one, with Jessie providing the vocals. Video done by Jon Kilmer. Hip-Hop, Pop | Upper West – Common Ground

Posted by on June 19, 2012

Upper West is back with their first solo(well, technically duo) release since their sucessful mixtape release, West Side Stories. This song shows off the typical Upper West style; you always know what you’re going to get when you listen to them. Their sound is always poppy, like something you would hear on the radio(but not bad). But as opposed to mainstream garbage which usually consists of constant pleading to call me(maybe), the boys of Upper West have harder hitting lyrics, often delivered by Doug, that actually serve a purpose, and try to relay a message. This song was released as a “thank you” to the fans that have helped Jessie and Dougie reach 10,000 fans, so thank yourselves for making this song happen.

Hip-Hop | Spring – Fortune Family ft. Upper West

Posted by on May 2, 2012

Two groups that have made themselves unique using poppy sounds link up to create an absolutely grand song. The Sara Barellis sample sets the stage for an upbeat, fun song. The theme is further driven by quality verses from Reef and Doug. I had been hearing about this song from my man Reef for about a month. Now I know what he was so hyped about. I love everything about this song, whether its Reef’s powerful bars, or Doug’s raspy verse, Spring gets me hyped for Summer. I know this at categorized as “hip-hop” but pretend it says “hip-pop.” Hit FF on facebook here, and UW here.

Hip-Hop | Upper West – Somebody Freestyle

So when I posted that Dylan Owen EP I was talking about emotion through lyrics and how it makes a song so much more meaningful and relatable. Here we have an Upper West song that is exactly like that. Known for their upbeat jams, Jesse and Doug decide to switch it up on us and spit some truth. Even though this won’t be on their upcoming mixtape, West Side Stories, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t download this one. So snag this track and show them some love on Facebook and Twitter.

Hip-Hop | Skizzy Mars – Sirens

Posted by on January 18, 2012

Alright, so you know from my previous posts that I’m a big Skizzy Mars fan. What you might not know is that this song is actually a remake of one of Skizzy’s earliest songs he ever recorded. Again we get the usual Skiz flow with a good beat but this time its produced by Jesse of Upper West. Scoop it and look back for Phases.
