As a Trojan, it always makes my day to see another member of the Trojan family succeed, and as a blogger, it’s in my civic (collegiate?) duty to support any fellow Trojans in their endeavors. Justin Jay was, by no means, an unknown when he was an undergraduate student at USC, considering his first-ever dirtybird release came his freshman year after he sent a demo to Claude VonStroke himself. Now, four years later and diploma in hand, Justin Jay is bringing it back to the imprint that started it all for him with his Mom, I Graduated EP. The young phenom unveiled the lead single off of the EP, “Hit It,” a few weeks ago, but now, he’s showing off another underground weapon in “Rain Dance.” Tribal influenced synths drive the track through twists and turns of bubbling bass lines and groove-driven melodies, and Jay even pushes his comfort zone by sampling his own voice for the first time ever on a track. The full EP is out now on Beatport, so don’t sleep on it!

Wow. This track is something else. I was browsing (for the sixth time) through the Magician’s new “Magic Tape 54” and came across this track and completely lost it. It’s perfect in every single way. How it has less than 20,000 plays should be a class C misdemeanor. It’s just that good. Tune and turn up. Thank you Grades.

Gallant’s recently released single, “Weight In Gold,” has become one of this summer’s anthems. The LA-based R&B artist has a voice that is so unbelievably clean and smooth that it just lends itself perfectly to being remixed, and nearly every producer who could get their hands on “Weight In Gold” has delivered their own take on the track. One of the best remixes of “Weight In Gold” comes courtesy of Louis Futon, who infuses the track with his trademark futuristic style. I’ve seen a good amount of remixes to Marcus Schossow’s “Lionheart”, but none have captured me as much as Jenaux’s breathtaking remix of the track. Keeping the beauty of the original, Jenaux added his signature progressive twist to the song and made it something that I’m sure we’ll be hearing at every major festival.
