As Yonas is preparing to release his upcoming album, The Transition he gives us the visuals to one of the big single releases off the project. The song “Roller Coaster” features the upcoming duo that is OCD: Moosh & Twist. The video features some really awesome aerial shots along a beach as well as a graffiti ridden rooftop. As you may have noticed, I haven’t been heavy on my blog game lately. Thanks to Nemo, I have the afternoon off from work and I now have some time to share some new music before I get buried in pow pow. I’m a few days late with YONAS’ newest album, The Black Canvas, his first project released under independent record label 1st Round Records, but it was a project I could not pass on. Seven months after dropping The Transition mixtape, the Bronx bomber has yet another incredible body of work for his fans. I’ve always expressed my passion for YONAS’ work, primarily because his music is honest, refreshing, and he holds an ability to paint a picture as good as any other MC in the game. The Black Canvas is just that.
Production credits are impressive in themselves ranging from Teddy Roxpin (Clockwork) to Matty Trump (Put it Down, Y.O.N.A.S., and The Black Canvas) to DJ Corbett (previously featured on The Transition) to Lucian Walker and of course, Sean Ross. As always, YONAS blends popular mainstream caliber production with honest, omniscient lyrics further validating him as one of the most versatile and creative artists rising up.

YONAS Nation, open your eyes and ears to the newest set of visual art for the Bronx bomber’s lead single off his most recent mixtape, The Transition. The most significant news of late is of course YONAS’ newly inked record deal with 1st Round Records, which may be just the platform he needs to catapult into the realm of hip-hops heavyweights. With a, “Don’t Give A Damn” attitude, YONAS once again linked up with his crew at Betterdays Media for a boisterous poolside shoot, solidifying this record as “the party hit” aiming to keep summer alive. Transparent to any negativity, YONAS continues to push for positivity, showing his fans just how to incorporate a lyrical message into an upbeat, fun track. With production by Sean Ross, this has been my go to playlist record off the mixtape since it dropped back in June.

Fresh off the heels of his latest mixtape, The Transition, YONAS comes through with the visuals to support the standout title-track. Substantially flashier than his previous work, YONAS is improving his brand and shooting for a bigger audience, yet still keeping the bar high when it comes down to lyricism. There aren’t a whole lot of artists right now that can sound this comfortable and poised on top of electronic-infused hip-hop beats and still spit like he can. It’s only a matter of time until the world starts paying attention. If you missed his mixtape release, you need to get on that right about now.

The moment YONAS’ music first graced my ears, I knew I had come across a special individual. That was a couple months before the Bronx, NY native had released his debut independent album, The Proven Theory. At the time, I didn’t know much about YONAS outside what I had extracted from the few singles I had heard. I went on his website and ordered myself a copy of his album. When I received it in the mail a week later, packed & shipped from his managers apartment, I realized just how independent and driven this kid was. Since then, The Proven Theory has not left the 10-disc visor folder in my car. It’s my go to.
Several singles, remixes, and videos later, Y-O welcomes us to The Transition. A comprehensive 15-track project featuring a contagious blend of hip-hop infused with electronic beats, hard hitting bass, and conceptual rhymes. There’s no question YONAS is a bully in the booth, but he articulates his rhymes as well as any artist in the game. He has flourished largely because of his versatile style and confidence to make the music he wants to make. Featuring 7 previously released tracks, along with 8 brand new ones, this project has something for everyone. Young Sinatra aka Logic, makes a guest spot on the tape along with one of YONAS’ idols, Brother Ali, as well as Scotty James. Production credits due to Sean Divine (YONAS’s right hand man who has been credited with the majority of his original production to date), along with DJ Corbett, & Sean Ross among others.
