RnB | Usher & Diplo – Climax
Posted by Spice on February 14, 2012
Going to preface this by saying that I’m pretty sure I slow danced to this exact song at multiple school dances/bar mitzvahs/etc in the period spanning from 2001 to 2003. You know exactly what I’m talking about: one second it’s all fun and games, with everyone bobbing along in a large circle of Abercrombie graphic tees to “Ride Wit Me” (with the show-offy pros going word for word with Nelly on every verse), but then, in a single moment, everything changes. The tempo slows. The lights probably dim. And after a few plaintive notes, the sensual vocal stylings of Usher descend upon the dance floor. The tension in the room will immediately ratchet up about seven levels because this entire transition is unmistakable: everyone knows that Usher is the international signal for This Is About To Get Serious.
So with all of that in mind, here is a brand new, undeniably throwback-y collabo from Diplo and Usher, hopefully in time for whatever Valentine’s Day…celebrations…you may have planned for later this evening. It’s gloriously cheesy, smooth and catchy, and definitely timely: If not Feb 14th, when? So Happy Valentine’s Day, FNT. Grow some balls and ask your crush to dance if you couldn’t do it the first time around. And bring on the remixes.
EDIT: Read this interview with Diplo while listening to this song.

Preview, Progressive House | PREVIEW: Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman – Roll The Dice (Original Mix)
Posted by Middy on January 24, 2012
The suberb Swedes, Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman coming off of their widely successful remix of Coldplay’s “Scientist” have previewed their upcoming single “Roll The Dice”. “Roll The Dice” brings to the table simply stunning synth work with a smooth piano and soft synth lead that crescendos into a break with a hard clap and pounding, alternating synth with some pitched synth overlay. To be released February 9th, make sure to watch out for these guys who are sure to have an absolutely massive 2012, as we predicted, though they may very well exceed all expectations.

Electro | Major Lazer – Original Don (Black Cards Remix)
Posted by Spice on December 27, 2011
Major Lazer’s dancehall banger gets an insane electro reboot in this remix, which features a kicked-up tempo from the original version and a driving hook after the drop. I love the original but this remix is honestly fire. Never heard of Black Cards before but apparently Pete Wentz is involved…okay, sort of questionable, but this track is a must DL.

Electro-House, Videos | Paper Diamond – Better Things
Posted by Middy on December 16, 2011
Paper Diamond released his latest single from his upcoming EP “Paragon” set to release in 2012 yesterday and it is fantastic. As described by Paper Diamond it is a “hip-hop tempo banger, with glitchy rhythms and buildups that crash down into melodic bleeps and bloops. It’s a fun listen that is simultaneously unexpectedly poignant, somehow employing those beats to call forth an emotion that you’d completely forgotten you could experience.” He is on a Winter Tour of the US now and is doing a whole bunch of shows in January and February, so don’t miss out on this opportunity. Above is some sick concert footage from this fall.

Mashups | Trademark – We Found Pop

This is a special release for DJ Trademark, so I’ll let him do the talking… “I always loved Earworm’s “Best-Of” records that he releases at the end of the year, but I wanted to put my spin on it. Madeon gives the funky backdrop for a year stacked with up-tempo dance records. “We Found Pop” includes 20 of my personal favorites blended together.”

Up and coming Atlanta Emcee, Bugus, just dropped this track and I’ve got to say, this guy’s got talent. I’m really digging the up-tempo jam beat – the sample sounds dope with his flow. If you love rolling up on sunny days, check this out.
