Hip-Hop, RnB | Mike Posner – A Perfect Mess

Posted by on November 18, 2011

Two more days till Mike Posner drops his new mixtape, The Layover, and I have to say I’m excited. He wasn’t kidding when he said he was going back to his old style. All the production on the other tracks have been impressive, and this one doesn’t disappoint either. It’s got a more laid back sound to it with some good vocals. Look back on sunday for the whole tape, and enjoy this one while you wait.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Ludacris – 1.21 Gigawatts: Back To The First Time (Mixtape)

Posted by on November 16, 2011

Luda just dropped his Back To The Future mixtape today and I got to say, I’m surprised by the content. The majority of the whole tape’ sounds very Southern, with its slow beats and chopped up hooks, which is surprising from Ludacris, given the electro/pop-rap road he’s taken over the past few years. With features from Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, and Big K.R.I.T. there’s at least one track on here that everyone can enjoy.

#SOXFITTEDON is the first offical single off of Hendersin’s upcoming mixtape I F.L.Y. due out on November 14th. According to his management:

the production on this album levels above his past releases and the evolution of his music reaches whole new heights on this tape.

After listening to this track, its clear that Hendersin will be bringing some serious heat with I F.L.Y..

An up-and-comer hailing from Ft. Lauderdale, Hi-Rez combines nostalgic rhymes with dope, pop productions. The mixtape as a whole gives off a “pursue your dreams” type of feel which I think everybody can vibe with. Below are two of our favorite tracks off the tape, and the full DL link to the tape’.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Tarik – T.R.I.G.S

Posted by on September 26, 2011

I’ve been waiting for this day to come for over six months. Ladies and gentleman, FreshNewTracks is proud to present Tarik’s gripping project entitled “T.R.I.G.S”. Our Hip-Hop heads will thoroughly appreciate his old-school flow over simple yet powerful beats. Although you might be familiar with a few cuts off the tape the majority of the tracks are new. Above all, this mixtape displays the versatility of this budding MC.

Electro | Daft Punk – Drive (Unreleased from 1994)

Posted by on September 20, 2011

I will let Soma Records do the talking. Get it HERE.

“At the tail end of 2010 we combed through boxes of DATs, pictures and god knows what else to find artefacts of Soma’s early days,” Chris Lamb (from Soma, Daft Punk’s first label) writes. “Imagine our surprise when we discovered a tape simply titled ‘Daft Drive’. We hooked up the DAT machine and inserted the tape with the utmost care, pressing play and praying that for one, the tape contained what we hoped, and two, that it didn’t savage it like a dog chewing on a bone.

In amongst the hiss and crackle, a monstrous 909 kick drum began to thud – Daft Punk’s Drive track had been rediscovered. Playing through was live Daft Punk: the freaky vocals, pounding Roland drums & synths and that distinctive DP compression. After standing in awed silence, witnessing this moment, the track faded off and we heard the sounds of French words that the recording had been made over; the remnants of their parents audio collection. The tape had originally been sent with Rollin’ and Scratchin’ to be released as Soma25 but Soma asked these two bright-eyed and techno-bound Frenchmen, to finish and send Da Funk instead and DRIVE was shelved for a later date. Until now.”

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Logic – Young Sinatra (Mixtape)

Posted by on September 19, 2011

“Mafiatic mindstate, Hip-Hop heads never die we multiply then dominate” -Logic

With that being said, where are all my hip-hop heads at?  Logic has been a regular feature here on FNT over the past couple of months with the release of his three previous visual singles off this project, “Mind Of Logic” as well as “Young Sinatra II” & “Just Another Day“, as he has quickly rose to a favorite for hip-hop fans around the blogosphere.  This 22 track project has finally arrived, and the self dubbed, “Young Sinatra” takes another step forward in his journey to success.

“I can feel it now the fame is coming soon, how can sky be the limit when there’s footprints on the moon”

It’s not often talent like this strikes us out of the blue.  Logic has exploded on the scene, showcasing uncanny delivery with his crispy clean voice and meaningful lyrics.  Still only 21 years old, Logic is an artist that I truly believe yields the potential to make a successful and prosperous career in the game. His progression since his breakout mixtape, “Young Broke, & Infamous” is definitely evident, even though I was completely beside myself when I first heard his debut tape.  Rather than mixing in some industry beats and remixes as he did on his previous tape, Logic brings us an all original piece of work, working with various producers and collecting only a few features.  One of the most confident young artist’s out there, he is not scared to share his feelings with his fans, boasting his life accomplishments on record.  You have to know you have talent when you compare yourself to arguably one of the greatest faces in music, Frank Sinatra.  Typically, I’d resent that, but here, I can’t help but embrace it.

Upon initial discovery of Logic, the first artist that came to mind was J. Cole.  Huge shoes to fill, yes, but too many similarities for my not to at least explore the belief.  Logic is definitely his own artist and is not biting anyone’s style, but his lyrical mindset, the way he carries himself, his story, etc, remind me of a young J. Cole.  Only time will tell, but listen to this project and maybe my comparison won’t sound so obscure.
