Progressive House | Will Sparks & Timmy Trumpet Add Another Smash to Their Arsenal With “ROMA”

Posted by on October 15, 2015

Facebook | Twitter | SoundCloud

The Melbourne bounce ambassador, Will Sparks, is keeping things fresh with his newest tune, which happens to be a collaboration with Sydney’s own Timmy Trumpet. Both of these producer/DJs have each built a legion of followers around the world, and they will only strengthen their presence as they continue to release huge tunes, and play stand-out DJ sets. Now, they have another tune to add to their arsenal, and it’s more than worthy. “ROMA” is not your typical festival-ready tune – it’s a massive, cinematic smash that could very well be the soundtrack to an epic Roman soldier march. Enjoy!

Electronic | Midnight Pool Party – Linger

Posted by on April 16, 2014

Well folks, it’s the middle of April which means it took me an entire four months to find a new artist to start obsessing over (2014, get your shit together!). But it seems my hunting has come to a end, well temporarily, of course, as I would like to introduce you all to Midnight Pool Party. This band comes from where else other than the down under: Sydney, to be exact. Their style is summarized by a contagious, feel good, retro disco sound, or better put in their own words, a “potent cocktail of funky guitar licks, infectious keys and swoonsome choruses.” Their latest single, “Linger” and all its remixes (especially Luke Million’s) is a great starting place to fall in love with these party people, and once you’re ready for more, you can catch up with me over on their Miami Horror “Real Slow” remix as I’ve had it on repeat for about a week now. They’ve got their tracks available for free download so you can cop them, play them for your friends, and all dance until you drop.

Deep House, Melbourne Bounce | Happy Endings – Shy Guy

Posted by on February 17, 2014

Throughout my time studying and traveling here in Europe, I’ve somehow managed to meet heaps of Aussies everywhere I go. I’ll admit I love their company so I don’t mind but at times it makes me wonder if they’re in the works of some secret, global takeover of sorts…. Anyways, today’s first track, “Shy Guy,” was brought to my attention by word of mouth from a Sydney native whom I encountered in my hostel in Berlin last week. I was pleasantly surprised to give it a listen later on and discover that it was in fact worth a second, third, and fourth listen after that. Happy Endings, although lacking almost any kind of background information, seems to be a deep house-producing duo led by Melbourne Bounce star Fat Blake. There’s something unique about this track compared to a lot of other songs from this genre that I’ve been listening to that I can’t quite put my finger on, but that makes me all the more excited to see what they come out with next.

The team over at Solé Bicycles are back with their latest installment of the Solé Fixtape Series. Solé has been absolutely crushing this mix series enlisting everyone from Goldroom to RAC. Straight from Solé themselves, “It’s CLEARLY summer in Australia.  Transient and euphoric, yet funky, the vibes will plop you down next to a pile of sand, a water source, and curve the corners of your mouth upward in this month’s fixtape. The Miami Horror boys, based out of Sydney, have really put something special together for us. We can’t stop listening, and we’re not sure if thats because we really like it, or because these tones are quite mesmerizing. Probably both. Most tracks are easy to listen to, yet provide just the right amount of funk in your step while the silky smooth vocals elevate the mind and body. Enjoy with a Cocktail. Do less, love more.”

Electronic, Trap | Papertoy – The Love

Posted by on November 9, 2013

Surprise! I’m writing about another Die High release. “The Love” by Papertoy, from Sydney, Australia, is bouncy and light. It’s got some trap beats, but the synths make me want to put it in just an “electronic” category. The vocal chops are way cool, and the airy feel to the song is fantastic. Papertoy has lots of other excellent trap remixes on his Soundcloud, so check his page out if you’re feelin’ it!

Electro, Trap | Wave Racer FBi Minimix

Posted by on July 11, 2013

Where do I even start with this mix… like hold the phone, WOAH. Ima take a quick second to explain to you what happened the first time I heard about this Australian DJ. See that picture above? That was it. The moment the sound waves in “Rock U Tonite” hit me, I was transported into distant land of dolphins, topless Jeeps, girls in 80’s vintage swimsuits and rainbows. Lots of rainbows. It’s possible I even shed a tear. That picture above isn’t some artist’s rendition of my experience, but rather Wave Racer’s Soundcloud user photo. He took me there. And it was awesome.

Anyways, Wave Racer crafted this mix for the Sydney-based radio station FBi 94.5, who described it as…

… [A] melodic treacle drizzling over sweet vocoder that melts like honeycomb in the mouth. All resting on a bed of dense synthcake and thick yet brittle percussion. It’s music too delectable to refuse.

I know that’s a lot to handle (who knows what those upside down Aussies are on these days) so lemme break it down for you. You’ll happen to notice the tracklist doesn’t include any of Wave Racer’s own songs. This mix, rather, is more of a compilation of some of his biggest inspirations (see: Cashmere Cat and Rustie) as well as artists with a similar style who are, essentially, artists you should get to know.

Overall, this mix, and all the artists featured on it, rock. It’s vivacious, it’s psychedelic, it’s carefree, and even at times, it gets a little sensual. Just another example of the thunder DJs are packing down under. Take note.
