Electro-House | Ummet Ozcan – The Cube
Posted by Middy on July 23, 2013
Living in the Netherlands, but from Turkish descent, Ummet Ozcan has found his way to forge a path in the increasingly crowded dance music landscape, where the saying “imitation is the highest form of flattery” is taken waaay too literally. His relatively new bombastic style that has helped catapult him to larger mainstream success is what you now know to be Ummet Ozcan. With “The Code” still a prominent track this summer, he has wasted no time resting on his laurels with efforts like “Here & Now“, “Airport“, and now “The Cube“. As a follow-up stylistically to “The Box“, with some updates in his current sound, Ummet Ozcan goes 3-dimentsional with this track, as he upgrades from boxes to cubes bringing his full-bodied bass lines and thunderous synth leads to this heart-racing single.

Progressive House | Alexander Technique & Disco Killah Feat. Luca Masinsky – Skyscraper (Laidback Luke Remix)

Calling on his “Ones To Watch” label pool, Laidback Luke has decided to remix the release from Alexander Techinque & Disco Killah. Having already stated that he would silence the haters (not sure who would hate on Luke), he has moved from his tougher tracks like “Pogo” and “Dynamo” to more melodic stuff for the second half of the year. The superbly talented Dutchman he gives us a remix fit for the biggest rooms, with soaring melodies, while still keeping it grounded in his signature sound, calling on his hallmark key play and bass line. The big room scene can become a bit generic at times, but if Laidback Luke is putting his talents back into the ring, expect some things to be shaken up as he always brings a new perspective.

Hip-Hop | HAHA-YO – Dancing Like An Idiot [Video]
Posted by admin on July 19, 2013
HAHA-YO has returned funkier than ever and on a mission to protect the secret sauce.
Whatever the secret sauce may be, HAHA-YO most definitely put plenty of it on this last song and video. In an industry filled with monotonous, unoriginal artists I can say without hesitation that there is no one quite like HAHA-YO. The duo can make the most introverted, shy listener get up on his or her feet and dance with the play of a song.
“Dancing Like an Idiot” is without a doubt on the lighter side of hip-hop and has a sound sure to attract many kitchen-dancers, shower-singers, and motor vehicle-rockstars alike.
Directed by Mikey Van Beuren, the video is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A mini-movie to go along with the soundtrack, the visual follows Boyder and Lukey the Bird on their journey to save their pizza dynasty and each other. There are -thankfully- no shots rapping in to a camera from a rooftop or in a studio, instead the team has given you something to sit down, enjoy and actually get intrigued by.
HAHA-YO has recently released their EP, HEY., and if you missed it, it can be downloaded here for free!
Hip-Hop | The Kings Dead – Honest Abe
Posted by admin on July 18, 2013
Coming off of the release of their mixtape Return of the Beast, the duo known as The Kings Dead has unleashed their newest single titled “Honest Abe”. Continuing with the darker sound they seem to have adopted, Alex Mendoza gives rapper, Sonny Shotz, a canvas to paint a picture of the music and culture that currently surround.
It surely has not been an easy return for the band since their several month hiatus, however, with releases like this one I imagine it’s only a matter of time before The Kings Dead have regained the buzz they had a couple years back. According to their website, it won’t be long before these kids hit the road once more, so be sure to catch them in a city near you!
Dubstep, Trap | Sound Remedy – Chiaroscuro

Sound Remedy’s new track is quite unique. The track starts out in his signature melodic dubstep style, but takes an unexpected turn into trap about 2 minutes in. It’s generated mixed opinions on his SoundCloud, some even claiming that it ruined the song. I liked the twist and how it brings energy to the song. The blending of genres was executed very smoothly and definitely keeps the listener intrigued. It’s always cool to see artists experimenting with new sound combinations.

Electro, House, Videos | Stromae – Papaoutai

Stromae, the Belgian producer that was slept on until Kanye West rapped over “Alors On Danse” and the track went viral, dropped an awesome video for his track “Papaoutai.” We haven’t heard much from the Belgian producer since the release of his first album “Cheese” but I am glad he released this single as a follow up to the album. “Papaoutai” is the right song for the summer, with that island sound, full of energy, and perfect for the clubs. For all you French speakers, notice the clever play on words with the hook “Papaoutai” phonetically sounding like African dialect, but literally translating to “Papa Ou T’ai” or “Dad Where Are You” in English.

House | Nalin & Kane – Beachball (EDX’s Indian Summer Remix)

This is another one of those tracks that you can’t really think too much about. Yes it’s true that EDX questionably produces his own tracks (get to know Chris Reece), but this remix is the sublime work we can come to the Swiss DJ for. EDX gives us the sound we have come to love from him with lush pads, unassuming percussion, a soaring female vocal sample from the original and vintage EDX chords. This “Indian Summer” remix is what you want from him, and as a free download, you have yourself a winner.
