Electro | Eekkoo – Eekkoo EP
Posted by Middy on December 22, 2013
Hailing from Montreal, the Canadian producer releases a three track EP on the only label that seems fit for his music, deadmau5’s mau5trap. Eekkoo provides a wide variety of plucks, piano stabs and distorted synths over a common theme of fat bass lines, creating a hypnotic piece of dance music from start to finish. While it may be considered a bit close to “deadmau5 style”, Eekkoo has his own sound that has earned the praise of the big boss himself.

Progressive House | Tiësto – Red Lights
Posted by Middy on December 18, 2013
We are seeing a trend here with dance music stars. Now that the biggest and most important music market in the world has bought in to dance music, DJs want a piece of the very lucrative pop pie. This is convenient because pop music is going in the dance direction, notably since the inroads made by Guetta with his tracks in the late 2000s, but it also requires DJs to meet the pop scene half way.
Hits like “Alive”, “Clarity” and “Get Lucky” didn’t sound engineered for radio, but ended up there anyway, but recently tracks like Afrojack’s “The Spark”, Armin van Buuren’s “This Is What It Feels Like”, Ferry Corsten’s “Many Ways” and now “Red Lights” all demonstrate the move to try and appeal to much wider audience. DJs no longer want to be the anonymous guy in the corner spinning tracks, they want to be brands, superstars and with commercial, crossover appeal coming easier every day, you can expect that to become more and more the norm.
The song is incredibly catchy and destined for radio; undoubtably its original purpose. It is the first of three singles from Tiësto’s upcoming album signed to Universal set for release next year. It will be his first album since “Kaleidoscope” back in 2010, so expect something very different. You can get a sneak peak at the process behind it including his producers Matt Nash & Dave Silcox in the studio, and how tracks were chosen on the fifth episode of In The Booth.

Electro, Pop | Cherub – Antipasto EP
Posted by dshaq on December 10, 2013
Cherub drops off some brand new music in the form of their Antipasto EP. Although the EP reuses their hit single Doses & Mimosas, it offers a brand new and very interesting remix of it by the knocks, and two brand new songs. Lifesaver offers a very upbeat groovy track while Tonight goes for more of a sensual sound. Always great to hear some new sounds from Cherub. Listen to the new tracks and buy the EP from iTunes below!
Indie, Progressive House | The Colourist – Fix This (The Chainsmokers Remix) [Preview]
Posted by Mel on December 6, 2013

The Chainsmokers continue with their rapid pace of releases with a remix to The Colourist’s “Fix This”. It has a similar same vibe as many of their previous indie-house tracks but instead of the light, cheery sound that is usually a custom to them, it has a bit of a darker tone. It is an official remix but the label told them they didn’t want the song available for sale or free download so as of right now, it is streaming only.
Trap | Harrison Blakoldman – Nocturn

Wow, isn’t this album art awesome? Anyway, “Nocturn” by Harrison Blakoldman out on Cosmonostro is a trapped out beauty. “Nocturn” stands out from a lot of the trap coming out right now. The sounds of a xylophone ring over low bassy beats. Its a lullaby with a modern twist. My favorite part is after a minute in when the sound is fuller, but it’s all really unique and interesting to listen to. Grab it for free!

Currently #8 on Billboard’s Next Big Sound, FNT regular, The Robot Dentist is ready to start sh*t up with his latest release “Call The Cops”, and brings out his homie Eminem to let you know “fuck you too b*tch call the cops.” We’ve seen the Dentist drop a few progressive house remixes these past weeks, yet with this one he takes his sound in another direction, a heavy hitting original trap record. Within the first 5 seconds of hearing this tune, I already see everyone lining up and bouncing to it, it’s impossible not to, this track goes hard. This is a must listen and a must download! Middle fingers up!
