This coming Monday, Black Butter will be making their first official foray in the birthplace of techno, Detroit, with its party on Monday, May 25th at Populux, where Gorgon City, Kidnap Kid, MK b2b Lee Foss, Dantiez Saunderson, Loud Luxury, and Admn will all be gracing the decks. For a UK label, the significance of this is very special as it is a time to prove themselves in a place where dance music roots run deep, and fans are well educated in underground spheres and beyond. Rather than Black Butter’s Detroit showcase being thought of as a judgement day of sorts, it’s more of a display of artistry that can be enjoyed by the masses. In celebration of the party, we’ve put together a showcase to highlight the top talent that will be guiding the Populux crowd to underground dance music enlightenment. Check it out below and grab tickets to the party here.

• Gorgon City

• Kidnap Kid

• MK

Mix | Tchami – Diplo & Friends

I like Tchami. I think he’s a force to be reckoned with and a serious breathe of fresh air for the dance community. Many don’t know that’s been producing for a while, and has co-production credits (along with DJ Snake) on “Turn Down For What” and Lady Gaga’s “Do What You Want” record. That’s no joke kids. You don’t produce those records without serious connections and proven production prowess.

I pump Tchami’s tires to say this: I wasn’t a big fan of this mix. My expectations are so high for this guy that it just didn’t live up to what I expected given his previous mixes, which were all gold. His DAD mix? Gold. His Thump mix? 24 Karat. Social Club in Paris? Cash for Gold. It doesn’t matter what I think. I’ll let our readers decide. Did this mix do it for you?

Be sure to catch Tchami on his European tour fall run. Details here.

Progressive House | Anna of the North – Sway (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Anna of the North - Sway (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Anne Of The North. Hearing “Of The North” immediately transports to the frigid northern climbs of Westeros where the dead walk, giants run rampant and woolly mammoths are not just an exhibit in the museum. But coming back to this world (I know it sucks we have to wait until April), The Chainsmokers deliver a feel filled remix that has the vintage stylistic nuances we have come to know from their past indie remixes. So turn this one up and sway, sway, sway…

I think Work records has themselves a tune. The Netherland’s Asino himself claims that he was born on a planet whose name is impossible to pronounce. In fact, he claims he was sent here long ago by a guild of Annunaki that secretly run his homeworld to make the sickest beats known to man and all other habitants of the five main galaxies. True or not, “Streetwise” comes out August 11th on Work Records.

Look out Kygo, Norway has a new rising star, and 18 year old Bearson is it with his melodic deep house remix of Tristan Prettyman’s “Song For The Rich.” Still in my Summer chill phase, it’s track like these that make my day run smoothly. A subtle melody, a light beat, and unique vocals that resonate is all it takes nowadays to tickle my fancy, and if any producers are listening I would say: less is more! This is a must listen and a must download!

Events | Electric Zoo Releases Trailer, Extra Security Measures & Pre-Sale Tickets

Posted by on April 30, 2014

The big news coming out of Made Event today is that Electric Zoo finally was issued its permits by the city of New York for this year over Labor Day weekend August 29th – August 31st. That means all of the wild and ridiculous speculation that E Zoo wouldn’t be back can end and the attention can turn to who will be booked and the new safety measures put in place. Speaking of those safety measures, a quick run down: drug sniffing dogs, lots of extra cops & medical personnel, including undercovers in the crowd, big marketing & social media campaign about safety and most importantly, a shorter festival cutting two hours of the day from 11am – 1pm.

So the question now arises, with all of the extra security, will it become suffocating and cause problems or be a net benefit and will you get your money’s worth for you ticket since prices are not going down, even with less acts. Pre-sale tickets are on sale now for $335 so check it out and make the decision yourself. We had a blast day one and two last year, but everyone knows this year will be different.

Dubstep, Trap | Skrux – Escapade

Posted by on March 8, 2014

Skrux is killin’ it with the lovetrap! “Escapade” is an original track which could be called something like melodic trap. Emotions run strong in the vocal samples chosen and chord progression. The chords crescendo into a melody that will stick with you long after listening, and Skrux threw in a surprise around 3:50. I’m happy to see Skrux getting more recognition lately. He clearly deserves it. Grab this one for free!
