Electro-House, Preview | Showtek Feat. We Are Loud! & Sonny Wilson – Booyah (Preview)

Showtek
Hardstyle ambassadors to the electro scene and the creators of some of the biggest tracks in the recent couple years (including some or many of Tiesto’s), Showtek preview their latest output alongside We Are Loud and Sonny Wilson on vocals. This reggae infused track combines the hard-hitting electro-style (electro house and hardstyle, I may have just been made up right now) sound they have crafted for themselves in the past few years that others have rushed to try and copy, with both some rock and reggae elements in the instrumental and vocals that really give the track its character. As usual, you can expect a well-produced track and something that could creep its way into sets this summer as a change of pace from many of the generic minimal drops being produced now. Release is coming August 19th on Spinnin, so you will have to wait over a month for this.

Say what you will about Yeezus, and say what you will about trap — ain’t nobody gonna argue with how swaggy this song is. What else would you expect from one of the “Bird Machine” masterminds? No doubt about it – Paris is burning right now.

Electronic | What So Not – High You Are [Preview]

what so not

Does it get more buzzy than Flume right now? Seriously. Just when you thought you couldn’t get more of the guy, you find out his brand new side project (with fellow Australian producer Emoh — there must be something in the water down undah, I tell ya) is set to drop its debut EP next week. What’s more, the first track previewed is — yet again — par excellence. With wistful, airy vocals, a super catchy hook, funky, off-kilter leads and a varied bassline, Flume (and What So Not) prove — yet again — that they’re some of the most inventive and exciting kids in the game right now. Look for The Quack EP to drop on June 25th via OWSLA.

Electronic, Preview | Disclosure – You & Me (Flume Remix) [Preview]

If one thing in life is clear, it’s that Aussie producer Flume is on a roll right now. Remixing cool kids du jour Disclosure? Just another day at the office. “You & Me” is one of the catchiest tracks off of Disclosure’s recent album, but Flume manages to get away from the long shadow cast by the original to create something totally different. “Orchestral crunkwave” is the term used on his Soundcloud page — totally works for me.

Electro, Mix, Trap | Hard Summer Future Stars Mini-Mix #5 feat. Keys N Krates

Posted by on May 30, 2013

Okay woah, I’m just gonna cut to the chase here and say this mix is BANGIN – Keys N Krates is proving themselves as a serious predator in the music game right now. This has got pretty much every track that you need to play at your parties if you ever want anyone to have any sort of fun right here, perfectly transitioning one into the next. Granted, my favorite parts are Keys N Krates original songs, especially I Just Can’t Deny (7:25). And you know, I can’t deny that this will probably be the only thing I listen to for the rest of the weekend.

As you can see, this is the 5th installment of HARD’s Future Stars Mini-Mix Series, which has so far featured Paper Diamond, Jerome LOL & Samo Sound Boy, Green Lantern and Justin Jay. You can check out those sets and many more here (can’t promise they’ll be as good as this one though…!)

Cover, RnB | Spenz — Do Me Now (Cover)

Spenz
We hardly ever post covers—so I guarantee this one is something special. My aversion partly has to do with the fact that I place so much value in songwriting, but also because it’s extremely rare to find one in which an artist actually adds something to the original. For most upstarts, covers essentially become replications—just a means of highlighting that they can also fill the space of an overproduced pop instrumental. But, on that rare occasion, I hear one that improves something that was missing on the original, or gives life to it in a unique way. Such is the case here, as Jamaican R&B artist Spenz reinterprets K. Roosevelt’s “Do Me Now”, which—even though it’s taking over radio right now—is underwhelming, given the quality of the Hit-Boy beat he received. Spenz provides that missing energy, smoothes out K. Roosevelt’s more staccato delivery, and adds some soul. You can expect to hear a lot more from this talented new artist in the coming months. In the meantime, keep up with him here.
