Electro | Mord Fustang – If You Want (Original Mix)

Posted by on September 2, 2013

Mimada here, broadcasting to you live from Sweden for the next few months. After sorting out the internet situation abroad, I could not be MOAR excited to make my first return post about anyone but Mord Fustang. Throughout the entirety of my experience with Mord he has remained one of my all time favorite artists. His style, so engaging and vivacious, is really unlike anything else out there right now yet is consistent enough to never disappoint. His latest track, “If You Want,” has all the standard Mord Fustang characteristics (slow build, bubbly repetitive what-sounds-like vocals, epic and totally satisfying conclusion) but has subtle elements of experimentation (see: 2:25). As soon as I heard this, I seriously signed up for Beatport account just so I could download it (yes, I’m a little behind).

Mord Fustang is like your favorite flavor of ice cream that you love to overindulge in. And when you start to think you’ve had enough of it, he drops a track that’s the same flavor, just with a new topping. And it’s even better than before.

As we say our final goodbyes to summer, we raise our Klondike bars, Swirled froyo cones and Drumsticks to you, Mord.

Damnnnnn, just did my morning scouting for new music, and discovered this out of this world production “Noah” by New Zealand producer Fffrrannno. Epic is the perfect word to describe this track. Fffrrannno doesn’t overdo it either with a big production, but rather keeps it all organic, and minimalist, making this track even more enjoyable to listen to. Not sure what you want to call this, but this might be the perfect track to end the Summer with. Not sure what else to say here either, other then you’re wasting your time reading this post right now, and you should be listening to “Noah!” MUST LISTEN!

Chill, Electronic | The Great Wave (Darphesh Remix)

Posted by on August 22, 2013

Here’s a chill tune for the end of summer. Darphesh did this remix for Cl0ckw0rk’s album “Japanese Whispers”.  It’s a song you can get completely lost in.  With some subtle Japanese vibes in it, and a great medley of different instruments and sounds, it’s a relaxing listen. Although this track came out two weeks ago, seeing as how right now it’s only at 39 views, it is new to lots of us! Check out Darphesh on Soundcloud, and you can grab Cl0ckw0rk’s album on Bandcamp!

Progressive House | Steve Angello VS. Matisse & Sadko – SLVR

Steve Angello vs Matisse & Sadko - SLVR
When I listen to this song, I try not to laugh, but I can’t help it. It is just that much better than everything else like it right now, there is just nothing comparable. It has been a long time coming for the 100th release on Size Records, and this is the fitting monumental release. Bask in its glory, and be prepared for more tracks like this from Steve in the coming months and years as he continues to shed the Swedish House Mafia label and becomes the superstar label boss he was on the path to becoming.

House, Mix | Defected and Loco Dice Present: Loco Dice in the House [Mix]

Posted by on July 22, 2013

It’s hot as hell outside right now and to me that means one thing: all house, all the time. House strikes the perfect balance between languor and funk — it’s the musical equivalent of an ice cold glass of lemonade, preferably spiked with a splash (or four) of tequila and preferably consumed underneath a cabana between the hours of 12 and 2 pm. If this sounds like it’s up your alley, then it’s your lucky day — house denizen and perennial industry heavyweight Loco Dice has just teamed up with renowned label Defected to present Loco Dice in the House, a massive two-part mix that combines banner names like Diplo with the well-honed sound that Loco Dice has become known for throughout the course of his storied career.

Preview the mix in the above teaser vid to get the vibe, and be sure to check out the full track list after the jump.

Indie | Valente – The Distant Lights (Anoraak Remix)

the distant lights remixes ep

Backwards snapbacks, so unique. As is the moment in time where a song keeps me coming back for more. I rarely download songs anymore because, like a girl whose profile pic is of her shoulders and above, you just can’t be sure. Right, the song is good. Is it great? No, anybody in a tube top is great. Being in the presence of a homeless man eating a bowl of Rice Krispies is great. Watching my buddy and his gf make brownies and then ask me to leave so they can do other stuff is great. Anoraak’s remix of Valente’s “Distant Lights” is also great. It has maken the cut of the very few songs I download a week so I think it’s something worth listening to.

Soft, gentle vocals and a soothing instrumental is what this track consists of. That is really all that needs to be said.

FYI | The DJ Mag Top 100 Poll Is Live, Thank God

Has it really only been five minutes nine months since the results of the 2012 DJ Mag Top 100 Poll? Wow. That totally flew by.

The DJ Mag poll is more than just a poll, of course; it’s an increasingly dominant internet sideshow that is about to become a larger part of your life than you’d probably like. How we’ve missed the pageantry of it all — the fervent sense of camaraderie that gets expressed through status updates (see above); the earnest pleas to our finer sensibilities (“a vote for Steve Aoki is a vote for pandas!”); the reliable kvetching from @Deadmau5 (“lol fuk this poll…even though I always crush the top 5 #whatever”); and, of course, the overwhelming sense of inevitability anticipation (spoiler alert: Armin wins in 2013). The only thing better than Shark Week is the DJ Mag Top 100 Poll!

In truth, this year’s poll is already shaping up to be even more unbearable than ever, due to two very distinct forces coming together to create a veritable perfect storm of awfulness:

1) Hashtags over everything. (Case in point: Ferry Corsten is now a hashtag on his own Facebook page.)

2) The EDM Explosion of 2010-Present — or whatever phrase du jour you, your grandmother, and/or The New York Times are using to refer to this awesome/terrible watershed moment in our musical metanarrative.

So if you think you’re in for anything more than a whole lotta this for the next three months…well, LOL, bro. That’s adorable.
