Albums, Review, Trap | Brillz – Retwonked
Posted by J-Tiffy on December 17, 2013
Just a week ago, Brillz dropped a remix rendition of his Twonk LP. This release is suitably named Retwonked and is a song for song remix package (granted, there are two remixes of WTF on here), and it again takes trap style music and gives if a jet engine face wash.
Brillz is among the clan of artists that are responsible for keeping trap music – and other genres, in a less significant manner – interesting and moving forward. Mundane isn’t in this dude’s vocabulary. I love listening to Brillz mixes, and seeing him live because his music is a blast to party to. It’s trap music that’s hyped way up, and includes so many elements of different genres, that he can toss in just about anything that is high energy and it feels right at home. He brought on a bunch of remixes by his other fellow innovators for this package. The result that is unprecedented, and packed with upside-down A’s. I gave a few words about each track, as well as an EP teaser mix and a full length Brillz mix after the jump.
Electronic, Hip-Hop | Ella Fitzgerald – Cry Me A River (Kaloo Remix)
Posted by yabishcic on December 15, 2013
I’ve been on somewhat of a Ella Fitzgerald binge lately and when I stumbled across this erie rendition of ‘Cry Me A River’, I was instantly hooked. The undertone of trip hop, kind of dub sounds are all I needed to turn Ella’s song around. This is just too great.
Trap | Britney Spears – Work Bitch (Chi Duly & Louie XIV)
Posted by Jess on October 21, 2013
What would Britney sound like on a trap beat? Chi Duly seems to specialize in answering questions no one asks. This time around he collabs with newcomer Louie XIV, for a “hillbilly trap” rendition of “Work Bitch”. Honestly seeing as how Katy Perry, Rihanna and Miley have all put out “edm trap” ish records, we’re kind of surprised Britney (who jumped on the dubstep wagon in 2011) chose such a dated edm sound on the original Work Bitch.
From Louie XIV Soundcloud:
“This was an original beat that we submitted for Britney’s record. They passed on it , so we turned trailer park lemons into a trailer park lemonade stand and flipped it into this.”

Chill, Trap | Slumberjack – Crave The Rain + Remixes
Posted by BP on October 2, 2013
This album is just crazy cool. Slumberjack’s track “Crave the Rain” is smooth and mellow, and each of the remixers on the album takes their own unique spin on it. Although all the remixes are great, I’d have to say my favorites are both King Henry and Chu’s chill trap versions. The Leon Osborn remix takes a close second with a more cheerful, bouncy rendition. The whole album is available for free on Bandcamp.

Drum & Bass, Dubstep | Rudebrat – Always Wonder (Skrux Remix)
Posted by BP on September 28, 2013
Surprise, surprise, I’m posting another Skrux remix… but can you blame me? This drumstep rendition of “Always Wonder” by Rudebrat is on point. I’m not usually a fan of drumstep, but I love the original track and Skrux really blew me away with this one. It’s fast and moving like drum & bass should be, and the melody is one that’ll stay in your ears long after the track ends. It’s free for us for to download!

Hip-Hop, Rap | Anna Kendrick – Cups (Marc Goone Remix)
Posted by admin on September 22, 2013
Once upon a time I thought to myself, “if I hear one more rendition of Anna Kendrick’s ‘Cups’, I’m going to shove pencils six inches in to my ears.” Yet, here we are, with a remix to the Pitch Perfect anthem that I just cannot seem to get enough of. This song lacks a bass line, models, bottles and many other quintessential rapper items, however, it sheds light on just how versatile of an artist Goone can be.
There will be a pretty constant stream of remixes from the Yung man these next couple weeks, so keep your ears open and enjoy!
Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | PropaneLv – Letter To The Industry (Mixtape)
Posted by Jess on July 22, 2013
3 million views after randomly deciding to do a remix to Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend”, Portland’s own PropaneLv drops off a formal mixtape of some of the best remix efforts in hiphop in the last year. Taking the traditional mixtape route, Lv comes together with HipHopEarly’s official DJ, DJ Reddy Rell, to drop the project. With the YouTube remix/cover/rendition lane a popular one in today’s industry, it’s done exactly what it needed to for Lv: solidify his talent and draw attention to his potential. On that note, he is very adamant that his debut album will be an eye opener this fall.
Varsity Blues drops September 30th.
