BeatauCue - Aeropolis EP

As head of forward thinking label Kitsuné, French duo BeatauCue, are known for their funky, groovy originals and remixes that may not put them on the MainStage, but it has earned them the respect as both outstanding producers and label owners. They have given us the opportunity to exclusively preview their upcoming single “Aeropolis”, set for release August 5th on their label Kistuné, along with one of the remixes on the package from London dubstep artist The Others. The original calls to mind a bit of an Eric Prydz sound with its rolling bass line, a strong groove and punchy and unrelenting synth chords that culminate in a huge danceable drop. The Others derives his builds from the original, but true to his sound adds deep, heavy, sub rattling growls and an ominous lead to flip the script on this track and make it his own bass heavy addition. Look for these on July 29th with additional remixes from Neosignal and Slick Shoota, which you preview in the minimix below.

Electro, Trap | Laura Mvula – Green Gardens (Djemba Djemba Remix)

Posted by on June 27, 2013

I admire Djemba Djemba as an artist for introducing me to other artists that aren’t on my radar that very well should be. Before listening to this remix, I checked out the video for “Green Gardens” (above) which features Laura Mvula and company dancing around in parking lots and a mysterious forest wonderland at dusk. Both the song and the video are really beautiful, actually, as is Laura herself. What’s also awesome about Djemba Djemba’s remixes is that they don’t take away from the quality of the original version. In fact, this track hardly references “Green Gardens” other than a select few of the lyrics. However, Djemba Djemba maintains the same bright and empowering vibes that make the original so unique and makes them work in his own way.

I have to say though… As great as Laura Mvula’s dance party looks, I think Djemba Djemba’s green garden is where it’s at.

Electronic | Coyote Kisses – Black Cat

Posted by on June 25, 2013

Coyote Kisses - Black CatComing off the release of their dynamic and diverse 4 track “Thundercolor EP“ last month, Coyote Kisses return to their roots of free downloads and give away “Black Cat“, showing the slow change in direction of their sound. As an ode to their beloved, recently deceased cat Banksy, the two American producers create a unique offering of distorted vocal bits, a subtly funky bass line, lush synth chords and soothing top line. In the future look for more works in the same spectrum stylistically as this one and less and less like their previous dubstep originals remixes.

For those of you not going out on a friday night, this is for you. I would totally be out doing something cool, such as couch shopping with my parents or going to the zoo and looking at ostriches but sadly, the zoo and the rest of downtown is flooded. My city has been in a state of emergency for like, ever, so it looks like I’m staying in tonight, as I always do. I was happy to come across this remix of Fun.’s “We Are Young” because, at least in my opinion, it hasn’t had any good remixes. Culture Code has done an awesome job on this remix and is giving it away for free.

Trap | Kanye West – Black Skinhead (Alex Young + Royal’s Horny Remix)

Posted by on June 20, 2013

I had a Twitter revelation the other day that went something along the lines of, oh, “You know you’re old when you can look back on the days when people used to play Kanye West at parties.” But I mean, really, Yeezus is more apt for times like “Take charge and start a riot” than it is “Kickin’ back with the homiez.” However, Alex Young has restored my faith in the fact that I might still be able rock out to Kanye like I used to. This time, rather than at a house party, it’ll be at the front row of one of Alex Young’s shows, which seems more appropriate anyways.

This track is really just an example of the artistic potential that Yeezus presents its listeners with. Looking forward to all the remixes to come.

Progressive House, Trance | Norin & Rad – Bird Is The Word

While the track may not have the emphatic ring of the 1968 original from the Trashmen, or the Peter Griffin cover, the Norin & Rad release certainly does have its catchy qualities. Anjunabeats has spent much of the past several months basking in the glow of Anjunabeats Volume 10, releasing singles and remixes from the compilation. They now turn to new originals from their stable of producers, this time tabbing American duo, Bruce Karlsson and Nick Sember, aka Norin & Rad for their follow-up to the euphoric “Aldo” on the label. “Bird Is The Word” brings together a chunky bass line, big room synths and a catchy, chirping top line that brings home the theme of the track.

Although this song unfortunately missed the deadline for our epic summer playlist, it is absolutely deserving of some recognition! Known for his epic remixes, Dave Edwards takes to The Knocks and St. Lucia’s most recent single in a successful attempt to keep up his reputation.

Dave experimented with numerous different chord progressions and sounds in this track and managed to avoid any sort of monotony in the production. Add vocals in to the mix and you’ve really got yourself a hit. The remix has already gotten some pretty significant recognition and so if you enjoy it enough, be sure to heart it up on Hype Machine!

Grab the free download and stay in tune for more Dave Edwards music, hopefully, very soon!
