Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Electronic, Trap | Birdy Nam Nam – Jaded Future EP
Posted by Sev on July 17, 2012
The highly anticipated Birdy Nam Nam EP “Jaded Future” has finally been released on OWSLA. Containing remixes from big names such as Skrillex, Foreign Beggars, Culprate, and more; this EP surely has something for everyone to listen to. What surprised me was how many trap-style remixes this EP contained. Birdy Nam Nam have been around for quite sometime, probably most well known for their outstanding live performances, which you can watch HERE.
As far as this well rounded EP goes, it is another must have for me. All the tracks and remixes sound completely different to one another with the perfect flow from track to track. If you played the Culprate remix and compared it to the original mix of Cadillac Dreams the only thing that would indicate they are the same track is the vocals, but other than that the two tracks have no similar indications. Of course everyone was waiting for the two remixes from Skrillex, which turned out to be better than expected in my opinion. The DnB remix was top quality, as expected from Skrillex, and the trap remix also was a very interesting take on the track. I have to say though although Skrillex and Culprate’s remixes were both exhilarating, Foreign Beggars remix was my favorite easily. Their hard hitting vocals mixed with the trap style instrumental came out to be perfection, but that is just my opinion. Grab the EP on Beatport HERE.
Drum & Bass, Electro-House, Indie, Review | The M Machine – Metropolis Pt. 1

Wow! This is The M Machine’s second great release in row off of OWSLA. I really enjoy the strength of the Indie on this release. Most of the tracks are Indie Dance and Electro-House/Indie, with of course the one Drum & Bass gem they seemed to have snuck on. ‘Immigrants’ is quite the track to kick off ‘Metropolis,’ it even has that vibe as if you are going through a city. I would love to see some visuals done up for this track because it is just an awesome banger. Another hot and heavy track is ‘Black,’ you could rip up a dance floor with this track.
‘Deep Search’ is a pretty cool Indie Dance track, I like how just seconds into the track it busts into the beat. ‘Faces’ and ‘A King Alone’ swing much closer to the Indie side, but are incredible tracks to chill out to. The last track on ‘Metropolis’ I believe to be a follow up on their previously released, ‘Promise Me A Rose Garden.’ Instead of dubstep though, ‘Shadow in the Rose Garden’ is an incredible Drum & Bass jam. I just wish it was longer than 3 minutes. ‘Metropolis’ as a whole is a great listen, work of art from The M Machine.
Electronic, Indie | The M Machine – Faces
Posted by Mach on April 21, 2012
OWSLA decided to give the fans another free treat. This track is off of The M Mahcines debut LP, ‘Metropolis Pt. 1.’ Faces is an Indie/Electronic track, which to some including myself before listening, would find that to be unappealing. The melody of this track is wonderful, it really pairs with the vocals very well. This track is simple, but a jam for many no doubt. ‘Metropolis’ is set to drop April 24th.
Electro-House | Kill The Noise & Datsik – Lightspeed

OWSLA with another sick release, a collaboration with the beast Kill The Noise and legendary Datsik. Dubstep? No, surprisingly this is a banger electro house track from the two dubstep fiends. This is a fun sounding track, you hear the blend of Kill The Noise and Datsik’s styles. Never thought I’d see the day either would drop an upbeat dance track like this one. Hope this wont be the last collaboration we hear from them.
Dubstep, Electro, Review | Nick Thayer – Like Boom EP
Posted by Spice on February 8, 2012
When OWSLA releases something new, you pay attention. Recent EPs from OWSLA-affiliated artists Kill the Noise and KOAN Sound have represented some of the most innovative efforts in EDM to date, and no one can deny the growing firepower behind young guns Zedd and Porter Robinson. So when Nick Thayer’s newest EP “Like Boom” dropped under the imprint yesterday, I knew that it would be worth a listen.
Nick Thayer is an Australian producer with a marked talent for weaving together elements of different genres — this latest EP mines hip-hop, dubstep, electro house, progressive house, moombahton and drum and bass to tremendous effect. While I had never heard of him before, I was immediately impressed by his versatility and obvious skill. Opening with some unexpected funked-out hip-hop (“Like Boom”), the EP veers quicky into heavy electro domain with “Facepalm,” which has a gritty, almost rock-inspired edge. “Totalitaria,” with its laser synths and more languorous tempo, is practically in moombahcore territory, while “What Props Ya Got” will ratchet up your heart rate with some truly frenetic DnB runs (before easing into a catchy, house-inflected hook). On the whole, “Like Boom” is an explosive and boundary-blurring listen which shows that Nick Thayer is less interested in the rules than he is in charting new territory.

Dubstep | KOAN Sound – Funk Blaster EP & Kill Everybody Remix Promo
Posted by Mach on November 2, 2011
After the one week notice OWSLA decided to give the fans, KOAN Sound’s new EP has arrived. Not exactly the smoothest upload on Beatport’s side, after they tried to charge for the free remix and mixed up a few tracks on the EP haha. KOAN Sound is probably sweating due to Beatports errors, not they need to considering how amazing this EP is. I love the funky dubstep vibe, something new to hear besides an artist trying to rupture my ear drums. Obviously the Kill Everybody remix is nothing short of awesome, but after re-listening to the EP over and over I seriously am not able to pick out a favorite. All and all, great job by KOAN Sound.
