House, Mix | Disclosure Essential Mix 10/8/2013
Posted by J-Tiffy on August 15, 2013

Amidst DJ Mag shenanigans, VMA hoopla, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga, this is exactly what I needed. Disclosure gave us their two hour debut Essential Mix on Saturday, and I’m crazy about it. I was at a cottage all weekend so this was an ideal soundtrack for my drive home. Groovy, deep, creative and soulful, Guy and Howard have given us a wicked mix. The English brothers start us off with a 15 minute tribute to the late and great Detroit hip-hop producer J Dilla, whom the pair cite as a major musical influence. Then they get right into it with a jazzy tune from Moodymann to set a tone. The rest of the mix weaves in and out of dark garage, lighter house, techno and other genres which are all expertly mixed. Only two songs off of their debut album Settle make appearances in the mix, and only one of those two is the original state. This mix is not a showcase of Disclosure’s music, rather a very entertaining, very well mixed glimpse into the collection of songs and artists that have inspired these two awesome musicians. This mix will be a daily listen for me for a while. It can still be streamed for free on the BBC Radio 1 website (the link below), but only until this Saturday. After that you’ll have to hop on Soundcloud to listen or download it.

Progressive House | Blondfire – Where The Kids Are (Madera Remix)
Posted by Mel on June 12, 2013
When I’m reading Harry Potter alone in the bathroom and crying there is only one thing I need, a glass of water and my favorite Taylor Swift CD. Once I calm down, I typically clean myself up at the sink and go back to class. Upon my arrival in class, to a huge standing ovation of course, it’s not out of the ordinary for me to sit there taking notes, never participate in group discussion, and ponder why the hell the small asian girl sitting next to me thought it was a good idea to bring thai food to class. The reason I am telling you this is because, among other things, I’m pretty lonely. Jk I’m not. What I am though, is a fan of indie and Math Bishop’s remix to Blondfire’s “Where The Kids Are”. After all, it was my first post for this site. It may be because of that I find this remix of that very song so infectious. It is not the best produced song and the intro is equivalent to the feeling you get after realizing that it won’t get any bigger, yet I still really like this remix.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Logic – Nasty (Prod. Don Cannon)
Posted by Mach on April 23, 2013
Produced by none other than legend Don Cannon, Logic spits the “Nasty” on this new track. The mic killer, just having announced his signing to Def Jam, shows us that he knows his time to shine is here and nothing is going to stand in his way. As a fan, I am sure I am not the only one who has been waiting for his time to come. “Nasty” will be available for free download off his upcoming mixtape “Welcome To Forever,” set to release on May 7th.

Starting off with a Progressive Disco-House gem. Neptune Safari did an awesome job on this cool funky track. His moving melody takes you on trip through the stars.

At last, we get the long-awaited second installment of Keystone State Of Mind from Philly representative, Tayyib Ali. After releasing a couple sneak peeks such as “Tomorrow” & “Like I Used To” the remaining 16 unreleased tracks are ready for our listening pleasure. Tayyib delivers another well-rounded project that contains only one feature and ton of great productions from the likes of Statik Salektah, 2Astronauts, 6ix, Teddy Roxpin & many more. Tayyib has without-a-doubt progressed as an artist since his previous release nearly 2 years ago. If you’ve been sleeping on him all this time, wake up and get familiar.

Dubstep, Preview | Teknian – Behemoth (DarkElixir Remix)
Posted by Mach on February 23, 2013
I never expected to hear a good remix of Teknian’s epic new tune “Behemoth.” DarkElixir collided worlds with Teknian’s original, leaving behind a wasteland ruled by heavy bass. Seeing as this is only one drop, one can not even coherently imagine what the other may sound like, but I have a feeling it’s just as mind blowing. Adding this one to the ‘must have’ list.
Events, Review | Dirty South @ Lavo NYC 1/17/12 (Review)
Posted by Middy on February 2, 2013
Though this was last month, I still have some pretty vivid memories of this night. The standard crowd of good looking upper crust mid twenties New Yorkers, expensive alcohol flowing like the Niagara and Dirty South spinning his brand of big room house behind the decks. Walking up to the high end New York Club I saw the familiar scene of people trying to negotiate the strict line — the people attempting to get in on the left side with either a ticket or just the hope that their looks or money would woo the bouncers to let them by that red felt rope and the right side filled with VIPs and their hangers on willing to drop their’s or daddy’s credit card on a night they will probably won’t remember. I shuffle in a bit out of place next to those VIPs and eventually make it through the various layers of rope into the club. Click on to go inside with us.
