So, it’s Saturday night the day after your inevitable Valentine’s Day let-down. Chill, Electronic | OBESON – Insomnia

Posted by on February 10, 2014

Obeson, pronounced “obey-son” for those who are not familiar, from Toronto, put out this unique track today and I have to say I am impressed. Using only the lyric “when you feel so tired but you can’t sleep” from Coldplay’s “Fix You” for the vocal sample, Obeson successfully conveys the vibe of insomnia throughout this eerie track. This mellow track is dark and mysterious, like the night when you can’t sleep. Grab it for free for your next late night.

Hip-Hop | G-Eazy – Last Night feat. KYLE & Devon Baldwin

Posted by on January 29, 2014

G-Eazy has been dropping singles and videos left and right like it’s h-o-t. Building up to his release of his next project, These Things Happen, we’ve already seen (and heard) some great stuff, like “Far Alone” feat Jay Ant, “Tumblr Girls” feat. Christoph Andersson, which is so reminiscent of that pretty girl typology G-Eazy nails down every time (see: “Waspy”) and my personal favorite, the perfectly produced video for “Almost Famous.” But out of all his recent releases, I chose to highlight “Last Night” because I think it’s the most jam-packed with that good good. Opening with a great feature from fellow up-and-comer Kyle, followed by some of the most angelic vocals we’ve heard from Devon Baldwin to date, and  topped off with contagious catch-phrases such as “Last night was a movie.”

G-Eazy in a nutshell. Catch him on tour here.

The homie Christian Deshun hit me up last night and asked if I wanted to premiere his latest track “Right.” and my response was ABSOLUTELY. As an ambassador to the NWLA movement, Christian landed top honors for 2DopeBoyz’s mixtape of the year in 2013, and he has no plans of slowing down in 2014. With this latest record, you’re going to hear a side of Christian you’ve never heard before: his singing voice, and it’s pleasantly nice. I’ve been keeping tabs with Deshun for about 2 years now, and his sound is always maturing, and growing in dimension. If you’re a hip-hop head, and recognize great hip-hop when you hear it, you’re going to want to press play. Get familiar with Christian Deshun! This is a must listen!

FYI | Eggs, Xanax, and Ecstasy for Justin Beiber

Posted by on January 15, 2014

Justin Beiber’s house was searched by warrant early Tuesday morning by the Calabasas sheriff’s department after an alleged neighbors complaint that their house had been egged the night before. Beiber’s house, who happened to be touching the neighbors, was preoccupied earlier that night with apparent use of what at first was thought to be Coke, but later identified as Ecstasy and Xanax, which was supplied by rapper Lil Za who was arrested after the drugs were confiscated from the house. With all the conspicuous activity that J Beibs has been accused of over the ladder part of 2013, it’s really not surprising that he would justify the idea of getting supper wacked with lines of PK’s and thizzle, then egging the person that literally lives on the other side of his fence. What makes the complaint even more suspicious is that it’s not the first time Beiber has had unpleasant encounters with his neighbors. They have complained about Bieber several times in the past year, including in May when two neighbors called the sheriff to report he was speeding down residential streets, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Deputies visited Bieber’s home in response, but the singer refused to talk to them. A neighbor also accused Bieber of spitting on him and making threats during a heated confrontation outside his home last March. It prompted a sheriff’s probe, but no charges followed. To be honest though, this isn’t the last you’ll hear of J Beibs… I’m sure he’ll be back next time with an even more ridiculously outlandish act of stupidity.
