Review | Skrillex @ Terminal 5; New York, NY / Mothership Tour Short Film
Posted by Spice on February 7, 2012
I was lucky enough to snag a last minute ticket to see Skrillex with Skream, Benga, KOAN Sound and TOKiMONSTA in New York this past weekend. From the insane crowd to the incredible opening acts to the absolutely mind-blowing performance that Skrillex put on for two frenzied hours, it was without a doubt one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.
Before we go into that, however, check out the video above. The OWSLA team just dropped this extended behind-the-scenes look at the Mothership tour and it’s a must-watch, although it basically just serves to confirm what most of us already know: Skrillex is living the dream right now.
But back to Saturday. Keep reading for my review and some videos from the show….
Videos | Joseph SoMo & Cody Tarpley- Work Out (Cover)
Posted by GMONEY on February 5, 2012
Sweet baby Jesus. Somebody call Jimmy Iovine and get this young man a deal. Finding talent in your own backyard. I love it. Hailing from Denton, Texas, Joseph SoMo has steadily been dropping cover videos as of late as he continues to create a respectable buzz for himself. Not only does he crush his vocals, he adds a quick sixteen at the end. For more information about this rising artist, find him on Facebook here. Sit tight, you’ll be seeing much more of him in the coming weeks. Shout out to Ben for the tip.

Progressive House | Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (dBerrie Remix)
Posted by Middy on February 2, 2012
New York native dBerrie is back with this big remix of Gotye’s “Sombody That I Used To Know”. He incorporates the vocals very well with a pounding bass line and driving, melodic synth chords. The drop sounds a bit like Alesso’s remix of “Pressure”, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Get this song and check out dBerrie on Facebook, Twitter & Soundcloud.

That looks like one of the best offices to work in; great music, great label and Mat Zo causally djing in the background. Where do I apply? Tritonal & Ben Gold have released their much anticipated dub remix of Tritonal’s “Slave”, which has been one of the biggest tracks on various podcasts and web shows from Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Above & Beyond among others for the past month. This song just has to be bought by you guys. Not only is it an outstanding song, but Tritonal is also giving out 5, yes 5 exclusive mashups if you buy this song between today and the 27th. If that was not enough, if you buy it within the next 24 hours, you also have a chance to win tickets to their show in Leeds with Gareth Emery and Andy Moor, among others. Convinced yet? I know I bought this song. Details right HERE and more on their FACEBOOK. Get this on BEATPORT.

Eco, a trance Dj and producer based out of New York just released this two song EP on Armada Records that is simply stunning. With a simple yet effective bass line, these songs have slow, measured builds that pace their way into melodic breaks with uplifting synth work that is worthy of establishing Eco as one of the elite US trance producers. Get the EP on BEATPORT.

Stoneface & Terminal create this remix that is almost nothing like you have heard in trance before. It has a great, melodic build that suddenly drops into a very slow heavy two-step beat that then speeds up into an intense synth and bass driven drop that makes this song as wild a journey of sound as it is tempo for the listener. Get it on BEATPORT.

Orjan Nilsen continues his 2012 right where he left off in 2011 by making absolutely massive trance tracks. He was a breakout artist in 2011 with a very successful album on Armada Records, and is only looking to build on that success in 2012. “Lucky Strike” is testament to that as a display of utmost quality from start to finish. Get this track on BEATPORT.

Xtigma comes out with this great single on Gareth Emery’s Garuda Records, that will surely help both the label and the artist. The song gives a great array of synth sounds with pitched synths and different tempos, as well as a great bass line underneath. Get it on BEATPORT.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Yelawolf – Let’s Roll ft. Kid Rock (Music Video)
Posted by Jess on January 11, 2012
I’ve been waiting for this video for a minute now and it’s finally here. In my opinion, “Let’s Roll” will be Yelawolf’s break out hit as it has Top 40 written all over it. The video for it was filmed in Gadsden, Alabama and The Bronx, New York, and also features a cameo appearance by hip-hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc. With production from The Audibles, Mr. Pyro, and Eminem and an amazing hook from Kid Rock, it is hard for me to see this song not being huge.

After Collin Mcloughlin linked up New York based DJ / producers David Berrie and Carlos Cid, the three of them came up with this masterpiece known as Change the Light. After taking the DJ scene by storm, Change the Light caught the eye of Ultra Records who officially released the track on Beatport and iTunes yesterday. With the Ultra Records stamp of approval, this track is sure to set dancefloors on fire worldwide.

Electro, Mainstream Remix | Flo Rida – Who Dat Girl (SmarterChild Remix)
Posted by GMONEY on November 24, 2011

New York based, SmarterChild is quickly becoming one of my favorite rising talents. His recent remix to Rage Against The Machine’s Tesify blew me away, and I was equally impressed by this take on KOPPS LA Lights. His most recent offering is this upbeat and playful remix to Who Dat Girl, you definitely don’t want to miss this one…
