The third iteration of Mysteryland USA is right around the corner, and as we count down the days until June 10th, there’s a lot to plan, and even more to listen to. The ID&T-produced festival has already unveiled two phases of its stand-out lineup, and this year promises to be the biggest and best edition of the festival in America to date. Over the course of two days, nearly 100 artists will call Bethel Woods home, from headliners like ODESZA, Skrillex, and Bassnectar, to stellar undercard offerings like Gesaffelstein, Claude VonStroke, REZZ, amongst others, spread across six stages of bumping music. With so many can’t-miss artists to see, and even more activities to do at the festival, it’s tough to decide which artists take priority, and which ones will fall by the wayside, and schedule conflicts only serve as yet another source of anxiety before the festival.
In a new editorial series leading up to this year’s Mysteryland USA, we’re spotlighting an artist on the lineup that we consider can’t-miss for the weekend. Whether its because of a phenomenal live show, a brand new album, or stellar DJing skills, we hope that this spotlight series will help you wade through some of teh schedule conflicts easier. You can get your tickets to Mysteryland here.
This week’s Mysteryland USA spotlight is the SNL comedian, Kyle Mooney.

DFLV is proof that such amazing music is coming out of France right now. I wasn’t surprised when he told me the chords for the melody just came to him when he sitting in front of the piano. He contacted Blest Jones for some vocals and Jones really delivers. Check out this track and start following DFLV. His new mixtape is coming soon and we hope to hear more from him sooner than later.

Hip-Hop | Maxxx Flair Showcases His Growth on “Kiln Shelves”
Posted by jeffwbaird on March 31, 2015
Hip-hop—more so than any other art form—seems to cause tremendous apprehension about aesthetic. It stems from the 90s gangsta rap binge, and the repeatedly glorified imagery displayed by prominent rappers. New York City rapper Maxxx Flair has struggled to find the proper balance over the course of his past four projects, but now on “Kiln Shelves” seems to have finally found his most authentic, genuine sound yet.
While the EP spans just fifteen minutes, it’s a remarkably intimate and revealing listen. The production, too, is decidedly more fluid, with the full project handled by the talented duo The Hittas. Maxxx has ditched the caricatures and employs his storytelling ability solely to tell his own; “70 West” vividly details his Upper Manhattan upbringing, and “Six Degrees” creatively describes the feeling of being just one connection away from someone who could give you your big break.
Check out the EP in full below.

Hip-Hop, Rap | Rome Fortune – Lights Low

After premiering on Pitchfork earlier this week, Rome Fortune went on to gather up a gaggle of critical acclaim on his new release, “Lights Low”. Fortune stayed true to his trippy, dream-like sound gliding atop of the Four Tet production. And, although it is unclear how many more releases there might be before his next project, we can assume that we will be equally as impressed.
Rome Fortune just finished up his New York City debut show this week at the Hudson Project. Fortune is on to something big here, and it won’t be long before his Atlanta roots spread worldwide.
