Girl Fire | Sophia Grace – Best Friends

Posted by on January 8, 2015

Many moons ago, we struggled to find a name for songs we knew girls would like that we were willing to post. You know, those candy-coated pop songs that are undeniable top 40 smashes. Simply labeling them “fire” didn’t seem to do them justice. Thus, “girl fire” was born, which was a term that now-retired blogger BIG LIFE coined. Sophia Grace’s “Best Friends” single, which was premiered by Ryan Seacrest, is undoubtedly “girl fire” and we can’t get enough of it. Sure, she’s 11 and rapping about running the town and turning down boys but it doesn’t matter. This is hot fire and I can’t get enough!

House | Young Bombs Remix Sigma “Nobody To Love”

YoungBombs
Young Bombs. I first discovered them from Oliver Heldens wildly popular “Heldeep Radio” series. I’m glad I did, because they’ve been pumping out solid remixes for the past few months. Building on the success of their Route 94 “My Love” remix (which I included in my own personal mix) they release their interpretation of Sigma’s “Nobody To Love” with incredible success, putting a new spin on a record that’s already had massive success. It’s technically a remix of a remix, but that doesn’t matter. New music is always welcome from this Canadian duo. Keep an eye out for these two in 2015. I expect big things.

Mix | Tchami – Diplo & Friends

I like Tchami. I think he’s a force to be reckoned with and a serious breathe of fresh air for the dance community. Many don’t know that’s been producing for a while, and has co-production credits (along with DJ Snake) on “Turn Down For What” and Lady Gaga’s “Do What You Want” record. That’s no joke kids. You don’t produce those records without serious connections and proven production prowess.

I pump Tchami’s tires to say this: I wasn’t a big fan of this mix. My expectations are so high for this guy that it just didn’t live up to what I expected given his previous mixes, which were all gold. His DAD mix? Gold. His Thump mix? 24 Karat. Social Club in Paris? Cash for Gold. It doesn’t matter what I think. I’ll let our readers decide. Did this mix do it for you?

Be sure to catch Tchami on his European tour fall run. Details here.

House | Pep & Rash – Fatality (Quintino Edit)

This is for all you kids in the chat box with absolutely zero taste in dance music. You know, the one’s who b*tch and moan about there not being enough progressive house slash brostep posted. I’ve pretty much had it with progressive house at this point but Quintino’s edit of Pep & Rash’s “Fatality” is a huge tune. There’s just no getting around it. The video is horrendous, but it doesn’t matter. Spinnin’ Records continues to pump out hit after hit. Incredible really. Pick this up on Beatport below.

House | Cleavage – Prove (Official Music Video)

Cleavage’s “Prove” on Spinnin’ Records is a tune. Little known secret is that it’s been out for a good while. By good while I mean a year or two. That doesn’t matter, because the video dropped last week and it’s already amassed 400,000 plays, and deservedly so. I don’t understand the video one bit (probably because I’m an American simpleton) but this groovy disco-inspired single deserves all the spins.

Deep House | BANKS – Beggin For Thread (Gryffin & Hotel Garuda Remix)

BANKS - Beggin For Thread (Gryffin & Hotel Garuda Remix)Gryffin has gotten soundcloud famous very quickly. In the matter of 8 months from his first remix of John Newman “Love Me Again” to this “Begging For Thread” alongside Hotel Garuda that has incredible momentum behind it, things have really taken off for the NYC producer. BANKS has been a popular artist to remix and the combination works perfectly here as the three producers use the vocal, chopping it and manipulating it as well as I have heard in a remix, setting it over deep plucks and distant, reverbed guitars riffs. As per usual with these three, the tune is a free download, so make sure you grab it below.
