Nu Disco | Jerry Folk Takes Years & Years’ “Desire” Into Space With New Remix

With the release of Communion in the rearview mirror, Years & Years has been the subject of plenty of remixes this summer. Frontman Olly Alexander’s pop croons provide the perfect vocals for a talented producer to come in and work some magic, and the UK-based electronica band has already been remixed by the likes of Gryffin, Zac Samuel, and more, and today, Norway’s Jerry Folk has unveiled his remix of Years & Years’ “Desire.” Folk is no stranger to indie remixes, as his remix of Oh Wonder’s “Lose It” topped the Hype Machine charts on its way to 4.5 million plays in less than a year, and his “Desire” remix is a lesson in nu-disco. Disco-tinged synth stabs combine with electro-infused basslines and subtle percussions accents to give Folk’s remix a decidedly 70s feel.

With its tenth anniversary in the books, Tomorrowland has soundly secured its position as one of the world’s premier electronic music festivals. The ID&T-produced festival is one of dance music’s most sought-after events, as it delivers a mastered blend of music, production, art, and culture year in and year out. Tomorrowland has not only dominated the festival space, but the Boom-based festival is also dominating the after-movie arena with its countless creative and out-of-the-box video ideas. This year, Tomorrowland has partnered with Elite Daily to deliver a short video that captures the magic of the festival. The video follows the story of two girls who travel to Belgium for the festival, only to go their separate ways after the first night. As one of the girls powers her way through an interview with Nicky Romero, she is reunited with her friend under the magic lights of the festival, and they go on to enjoy the experience of a lifetime. With only a few short weeks until TomorrowWorld, tickets and camping passes are still available for purchase here, and you can find more information about a VIP ticket giveaway by Elite Daily here.

Everything Gryffin touches is absolutely magic. A few months ago, he unveiled an out-of-this-world remix of Years & Years’ “King,” as he blended his expertly crafted melodies with the indie soul of the UK band, but it seems like the NYC-based producer isn’t finished with his friends from across the pond. Gryffin’s latest effort sees him dabbling into Communion once again, as he turns “Desire” into a dance music classic. Years & Years frontman, Olly Alexander, is front and center on the remix, as Gryffin masterfully floats Alexander’s soulful croons atop a bed of dreamy melodies and evolving bass lines. Since storming onto the scene last year, Gryffin has been on a meteoric rise to the top, and with his “Desire” remix taking the honors of being the lead single off of the forthcoming We Are Your Friends, the future is bright for the young phenom.

Filous has the magic touch – it’s that simple. I still have his remix to RAC’s “Tear You Down” playing on repeat. The 17-year-old Austrian producer’s style perfectly complements Urban Cone and Tove Lo’s vocals – creating a unique atmospheric vibe that he has become known for. This one is going to be perfect for those summer road trips and days on the beach. Don’t believe me? Check it out yourself and stream the track now!

When I covered Dan Sieg’s A Sense Of Wonder I never thought I would one day be posting up a track I can easily refer to as one that qualifies parallel emotion. Blugazer’s remix to this beautiful track is pure magic. Adding his own simple touches Blugazer transforms “Horizons” into a translucent love piece, with perfect transitions and added chimes and chords that just carry me away. With such sensation backing this remix, I can’t seem to take it off repeat.
