Electronic, Trap | Phazz – Lionheart

Posted by on July 11, 2014

By now, you should already be familiar with French producer Phazz and the majority of his repertoire, so allow me to introduce you rather to the startup label that brings us this fresh new track. Meet youtellme, a London based platform focused on sharing music from eclectic, genre-defying artists from all over the map. This addicting electronic-trap jam is the first release off their freshman compilation volume, which features a superb variety of artists that you hopefully haven’t yet heard of but won’t be able to stop listening once you do. Trust me, youtellme is telling you the right things to listen to.

I didn’t care for the original. However, Disclosure try their hand at Usher’s “Good Kisser” with moderately impressive results. I liked the “Frontin'” remix better, but I’ll take new Disclosure as I get it. Perhaps they’ve set the bar so high musically that I’m being too tough on them. That might be the case, but it’s our job to call it like we see it. Regardless, it still smells like a label induced remix to us.

DO SOMETHING

Progressive House | Ansolo & Special Features – Unite

Posted by on April 23, 2014

Ansolo & Special Features - UniteTom Staar has taken his brand of bouncy house to the next level, establishing a new label to release his own tunes and those of others. The first release from someone else comes from Special Features and Ansolo, who step away from the cheery melodies for something more club oriented and fitting of the label’s ethos. Their melodic capabilities are still shown, but expect a little something different from these two on “Unite”.

Progressive House | Marcus Santoro & Jason Forté – Torque

Marcus Santoro & Jason Forté - Torque

Marcus Santoro has shown that he can do both uplifting progressive house, as most recently demonstrated in his collaborative remix of “Young Hearts”, as well as the more groove filled, harder style. He has gone with the latter style in his latest single which was done together with fellow Australian Jason Forté. The song starts with a light melody before changing over in the build for a gritty drop. It’s out now on the recently formed Australian label Basik.

The state of Michigan makes a strong habit of producing some of the most influential musicians on the planet. Whatever it is that Michigoneans  are doing to inspire artists to experiment with new, weird sounds and ideas, it’s definitely working and Waldo and Sango drink from that same pool. The Grand Rapids duo habitually create new inspiring music under the Soulcolection label . Yesterday, to help promote their L.A. + S.F. shows, Waldo dropped a revised version of “Kobe’s Song”, check that and the original version out below.

Albums, Exclusive, Featured, Progressive House | FNT Premiere: Sgt Slick – Everyday (Dave Winnel Vicious21 Remix) From Vicious 21

Posted by on March 3, 2014

21 years of vicious

Vicious Recordings is turning 21 this year and celebrate this momentous occasion, they have compiled 21 classics and 21 new remixes of songs that represent the storied history of the label. In a genre that has only been around for about 35 years, it is all to often we see labels, clubs and other institutions fade into obscurity after a short run on top. To remain one of the great labels, riding the highs and lows of the industry and remaining a consistent force at discovering new talent and promoting great music throughout the years. Based in Australia, just a few of the guys the label has helped break include Avicii, Dirty South, Peking Duk, Angger Dimas and many more.

With the compilation coming out tomorrow on Beatport, we are proud to premiere the Dave Winnel remix of Sgt Slick “Everyday”. Those of you who are fans of Kaskade’s compilation albums (raises hand), will recognize the piano-heavy remix by Digital Lab from Dance.Love, but now hometown kid, Dave Winnel takes over the reigns for a remix fit for 2014. The stunning vocal is left intact as Dave Winnel adds a bouncy bass line underneath a bed of synths that are a mix of a throwback to when this tune was originally released and to the sounds of today. Stream the tune below before it comes out tomorrow. Check out the teaser for the compilation below and see the full tracklist after the jump.
