House | Hey Champ – Comet (Justin Faust Remix)
Posted by Mach on March 21, 2013
Just what the doctor ordered on this seemingly long Thursday. Smooth instrumentals and calm vocals, this is the kind of House that is sweet to the ears. Jealous of all those people who made it down to Miami for UMF, but this remix from Justin makes it so much better.
Progressive House | Mako – Beam (feat. Angel Taylor)
Posted by Spice on March 6, 2013
Progressive young guns Mako have just dropped an absolutely massive rework of one of their very first tracks, and let me just say that this Cali-based duo is not kidding around. Infectious hooks, huge builds, and vocals that demand you sing along all make “Beam” a necessary addition to your rotation as we (finally!) start heading into warm spring weather. This is a windows down, volume up kind of song and is certainly an indication of what we can expect from these two in the coming weeks and months. They may have let it slip that they’ve got some big and exciting things dropping in the not so distant future, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled.

Progressive House | Twibak – Fluke
Posted by W8 on February 8, 2013
Over the years, I have remained in constant contact with Twibak from across the pond in Sweden. He is a special producer to say the least. Crafting a certain quality in his production that gives you an indefinite feeling of potential; just living life like we all do. He doesn’t release tracks that often, and so this marks a special occasion. ”Fluke” has an alleviated compression feel to it, nothing that exaggerated. Seamless transitions front to back with delicate anthemic work bundled with smooth synths and sprays. Altogether a blissful array of rhythm.

House, Techno | Bailey Smalls – Trouble
Posted by Mach on February 6, 2013
Ultra isn’t too far away from now and getting in the Miami house spirit is Bailey Smalls with a fresh new original. “Trouble,” the kind we may be getting into in Miami this year. Bailey has created monster, all that is missing from this track are a few lasers and some fog machines. Loud and proud, this track belts a ravers fantasy.

Electro-House, Exclusive, Featured | KillSonik – Slaughterhouse (Gemini Remix)
Posted by Mach on January 30, 2013
When people hear or see Gemini’s name they geek out, including myself. After hearing about KillSonik’s remix of Gemini’s “Robots,” I wondered if Gemini also remixed something of KillSonik’s. Well, MTA Records has been kind enough to let us premiere that remix. “Slaughterhouse” was already an incredible orignal from KillSonik, and usually I hate having to listen to a remix of something that is great on its own. This may be in fact the greatest Electro-House track Gemini has ever created. I have never heard Gemini drop in lasers and guitar rifts the way he has on this insane remix. If there is anything to pull from this, it’s that it is time to rage.
Preview, Trance | Ferry Corsten – Kudawudashuda [Preview]
Posted by Spice on January 10, 2013
Ferry Corsten returns to his roots in his latest track — a play on “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda” — which premiered to much fanfare on the New Year’s edition of Corsten’s Countdown. This is solid gold non-vocal trance that features a mesmerizing hook, heavy kicks, and incredible builds; aside from the retrofits of older tracks he’s been working up with Markus Schulz, “Kudawudashuda” is easily one of the best things I’ve heard from Ferry lately. It’s the kind of track that gets dropped at 4:30 a.m. when the club is still packed but things are starting to get weird and you’re moving without thinking and are utterly in the zone.
On a more general note, Ferry is one of the heaviest hitters in the game and a true master of the genre, and I am hopeful that this is an indication of the kind of trance we can expect to see in 2013 (I’m likewise encouraged by Armin’s “Who’s Afraid of 138?” campaign). No word yet on an official release date yet but look it for it to drop soon on Flashover Recordings.
Drum & Bass, Trance | Spice’s Top 12 of 2012

Less than a week into 2013, here are the songs that continue to have the strongest possible association for me with the crazy year that was 2012. Note: heavy on the trance.
