Kai Straw has been somebody who has been putting out some of the best indie/pop music you can find. He’s not stopping anytime soon, but he’s branched out with his latest single by bringing his signature flare to dance music. “Supernova” is about as future pop as it gets, with Kai’s amazing voice mingling itself between soaring synths provided by the producers Shokace and James Tha Bear. This single follows Kai’s #1 Hypem track “The Recipe” that I couldn’t get enough of. “Supernova’ is out now, but will be subsequently included on Kai’s upcoming album GUN, due out at the end of Summer.

If you don’t know Kai Straw, you need to. He’s a unique talent whose musical journey is deep and diverse. His last LP, Toothpick, was a masterpiece and he’s already getting ready for another album release. That album has officially launched with the release of “The Recipe.” This single sees Kai Straw taking a more pop-driven approach to his work, but he keeps his signature indie style at the forefront of the record. When I first heard Kai Straw, I was an instant fan. In 2016 he released his highly anticipated album Toothpick, and word on the internet is that he’s got another LP coming this year. For now, we know he has a new music video for his hit single “Hurricane” that was supported by the likes of Demi Lovato, as well as Spotify in numerous playlists. Fans couldn’t get enough of this and neither could I, which is why I was stoked when this video went live today. It’s simple and beautiful, with Kai taking lead in the video, as well as the director. A few weeks ago we covered a single called “The Business” that featured Bay Area legends Keak Da Sneak and Roach Gigz. The song’s creator, Kai Straw, pushed it as one of the lead singles off his Toothpick album that was due out through his own label, Tenth Gate Records. Now, Toothpick is here, packed with ten singles that are all incredible. From beginning to end Kai manages to do more than just hold your attention. He keeps your emotions running high in various ways, depicting stories and painting vivid pictures with his potent words. He’s a prolific songwriter, and together with the producer of the album, James The Bear, Toothpick’s content is both dynamic and extraordinary. Recently the internet put in front of me an artist that I wish I had known earlier. Kai Straw of San Francisco is the man I am referring to. This dude is coming out with a new album entitled Toothpick on April 12th, but he’s providing singles a bit early to tide fans over. The second single off of the album is “The Business,” which features Bay Area collaborators Keak Da Sneak and Roach Gigz. The record is a fresh breath of air in the hip-hop world, that is largely being ran by the R&B meets trap style. Here, we get a classic rap creation that brings solid verses to the table with a unique beat produced by James The Bear. Expect another couple singles before the album drops, as they are sure to be some top quality tunes.
