I am proud to premiere the raunchy, NSFW visuals for Jamaican R&B artist Spenz’s “Do Me Now”, a reinterpretation of the popular Hit-Boy-produced song by K.Roosevelt that we premiered back in May. As I mentioned before, it’s rare to find an artist who really understands how to improve upon an original, which is exactly what Spenz does, with his smoother, more soulful delivery and strong ear for melody. Look out for more from this talented singer as he readies his debut release due out this November.

We hardly ever post covers—so I guarantee this one is something special. My aversion partly has to do with the fact that I place so much value in songwriting, but also because it’s extremely rare to find one in which an artist actually adds something to the original. For most upstarts, covers essentially become replications—just a means of highlighting that they can also fill the space of an overproduced pop instrumental. But, on that rare occasion, I hear one that improves something that was missing on the original, or gives life to it in a unique way. Such is the case here, as Jamaican R&B artist Spenz reinterprets K. Roosevelt’s “Do Me Now”, which—even though it’s taking over radio right now—is underwhelming, given the quality of the Hit-Boy beat he received. Spenz provides that missing energy, smoothes out K. Roosevelt’s more staccato delivery, and adds some soul. You can expect to hear a lot more from this talented new artist in the coming months. In the meantime, keep up with him here.
Hip-Hop, Videos | D-WHY – Ballad Of An Asshole [Music Video]

It has been a little less than a month since D-WHY’s all-original free album Don’t Flatter Yourself dropped with a star-studded cast of producers and features. Now he has returned with a brand new video for “Ballad Of An Asshole” produced by G.O.O.D. Music’s rising star Hit-Boy. You can read more about D-WHY’s thought process on the song and video on his Tumblr. Check out the video above and be sure to grab Don’t Flatter Yourself for free here.
Hip-Hop, Rap | Hit-Boy – Jay-Z Interview (Official Video)

I hadn’t gotten around to watching this video because I thought it was an ACTUAL interview with Hit-Boy about Jay-Z…turns out, Hit-Boy titled the song “Jay Z Interview.” So sorry for the tardiness of this post. If you are not familiar with Hit-Boy, he produces for the likes of…well…everyone. Hit-Boy is signed to Kanye’s West’s GOOD Music, and the grammy nominated beat maker tries his hand at rapping in this video. His lyrics and wordplay is incredible, and his flow seems almost…Kanye like. I did find it interesting that he didn’t produce this track himself. Even if Hit-Boy’s career as a rapper doesn’t take off, he can always fall back on making dope beats.
Hip-Hop, Videos | A$AP Rocky – Goldie (Official Video)

(WARNING: VIDEO IS NSFW)
Weeks after this single surfaced, A$AP already has the visuals ready for this Hit-Boy produced track. Shot in Paris, the video shows Rocky enjoying his lavish lifestyle with his Margiela shoes and the expensive champagne bottles. My favorite is A$AP Yams playing the hype man in the video.

Fresh off his Coachella headlining performance, which to me wasn’t anything special, A$AP releases some brand music for our enjoyment. Off his album, LongLiveA$AP, which will be available in the Summer, the track is produced by Hit-Boy and yes, it goes hard with Rocky delivering on this track like always. If the album is anything like this or his previous mixtape, then we should be in for a treat. Look for more A$AP to come.
