Hip-Hop, Trap | E L Y – Life’s a Bitch Edit
Posted by yabishcic on October 8, 2013
Chicago reppin’, E L Y can bump out some seriously good instrumentals on the daily. Most of his music takes on a classical hip-hop sound and this is why this Nas edit made my head turn right off the bat. With the synced synth’s and Nas’s modulated voice to fit the beat perfectly, the chorus is what really brings it all together; “Life’s a bitch, and then you die. That’s why we get high, cuz you never know when you’re gonna goooo”. Couldn’t have said it better myself. I contacted & chatted it up with ELy for a little before dropping this post to get a better take on his music ambitions; “I have a mad love for hip-hop and I’m also an accomplished trap DJ under the name E1y. My main focus is instrumentals – instrumentals out the ass.” I took a listen to his DJ set’s as well – THEY GO ALL THE WAY. Here’s a player to both sooooo play on.
P.S. There’s free downloads for both, so take advantage!
Electro, Hip-Hop, Trap | Falcons – Julio (Falcons Remix)
Posted by yabishcic on October 7, 2013
Coming off of a afternoon work shift I was feeling particularly unenthused and tired. I naturally get in my car, light a stog, go to my SoundCloud app and listen to the new music from my feed on my drive home from work to (hopefully) somewhat better my spirits with some good tunes. Today nothing was really catching my attention until I heard Busta Rhymes all-too-familiar tune remixed into this totally dope version somewhere between hip-hop, trap & throwback. #instalove. Falcons never fails me I swear. My mood went from sour to sweet in almost an instant – crazy how a good song can turn your whole day around. Gacias, Senior Falc$. I can now sleep in peace.

This is an FNT-premiere for this talented Connecticut rapper, Jitta On The Track, who’s steadily been gaining buzz in the hip-hop world after his submission to the OurStage contest landed him on tour with Drake and J. Cole back in 2011. Here he flips Jay-Z’s “Holy Grail”, Travi$ Scott’s “Upper Echelon”, and Lil Wayne’s “Rich as Fuck” into a 3-minute verse that highlights his tremendous charisma and presence as an emcee. Every Sunday we’ll be partnering with Jitta to release an installment of this series, so stay tuned for more from this quickly-progressing young talent.
FYI, Hip-Hop | When Will We Be Ready to Listen?
Posted by jeffwbaird on September 29, 2013
July 1, 1982, the conversation began. This was almost a decade after Kool Herc first put his hand to vinyl on Prospect Ave., addressing the crowd over the beat—a mix of popular record samples. A new record was on its way to radio, slated for a hip-hop audience, though it was a drastic change to its proven formula. Hip-hop, at the time, was party feeder, and steadily gaining national attention as a result: just a year earlier The Funky 4 Plus One had performed their hit “That’s the Joint” on SNL (the first instance of the genre on television), and Africa Bambaataa’s techno-heavy “Planet Rock” was becoming ubiquitous on the radio circuit, having fully embraced the relationship between hip-hop and dance music.
Hip-Hop, Home | Tarik – Are You Proud Of Me (Prod. by SimsBeats)
Posted by BIGLIFE on September 24, 2013
Tarik’s final installment in his Soulful September releases is finally here. Are You Proud Of Me is one of the most heartfelt hip-hop tracks I have heard in a while. If this isn’t a single on the mixtape then I can only wonder what’s in store for his fans. Follow him on his social media.
Hip-Hop | Luke Christopher – The Alphabet
Posted by VMan on September 24, 2013
This is dope hip hop, I feel like I’m listening to a bonus track off Kanye West’s College Dropout. “The Alphabet” by Luke Christopher is straight fire! Just when most rappers are trying too hard to sound different, and weird, Luke’s keeping it fun and universal. I’m really feeling this beat, Mr Christopher’s flow, and that hook backed with a children’s choir. Download this track for free and I look forward to his project The Wonder Years PT. 1 dropping soon! Must listen and must download!

Electro | HIs Majesty Andre – Hymn (Tim Gunter remix)
Posted by dshaq on September 19, 2013
The only thing missing from this brand new jam by Tim Gunter, is a “damn son, where’d you find this one” tag in the beginning of the song. Taking a song with a lot of groove and rythmn, Tim decided to go a little slap-happy with the bass and boy does it sound good. Tim had a little something to say about this song:
I recently came across His Majesty Andre’s stuff via Pandora and his track “Hymn” really caught my ear. Hymn is a Daft Punk-esque (think One More Time) jam that uses a sampled orchestra, chopped vocals samples, and a driving bassline to get the listener moving. I come from a hip-hop background so I decided to speed the track up and give it a dirty south hip hop feel with 808 drums, chopped samples and lots of bass. I even added a sweet guitar solo at the end, just for kicks.
Make sure to download this and all of Tim’s other tracks, they’re meant for your weekends.
