Hip-Hop | G-Eazy – Gotta Go (feat. BEND / Daniel Johnston)

Posted by on October 15, 2013

G-Eazy’s been on the fast track ever since he started his music career. His music has stayed relatively to his style as his path down the winding road is slowly building, but this single of all single’s has got to be my favorite. It’s the perfect blend of alternative and hip-hop that makes it an enjoyable listen while still allowing your ears to really listen to what he has to say. Definitely take a peak at this since it didn’t make that track list on his upcoming album!

Chill, Mix | Easy Like Sunday Morning

Posted by on October 13, 2013

sundaymorningfinal

Happy Sunday Funday, y’all. I’ve been increasingly overwhelmed lately with the amount of good music accumulating out there in the universe so I’ve found bundling them up in little care packages to be the best solution to curing all the quiet moments in your day to day routine. Today’s playlist is a low-key musical journey to keep you feeling light and carefree throughout the entirety of your day.

A little indie, a little house, some trill-electro hip-hop reworks and one Drake and one Mr. Carmack track, because what would a playlist be these days without that.

So open up your windows and let the fresh air and sun shine on in. Make yourself a hearty breakfast, stay in bed, read an old book, take a walk, say something nice to the people you care about, turn on some football, spend an extra 15 minutes playing with your dog, or don’t do anything at all. Except play this mix, on repeat.

I wanna be high, so high, I wanna be free to know
The things I do are right
I wanna be free
Just me, babe!
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like sunday morning…

Hip-Hop, Rap | Sikai – Still On D.R.U.G.S. (Prod. By Bobby Music)

One of Sikai’s people sent his mixtape Painkilling: Summertime Sick in to me, I gave it a quick listen, and this record “Still On D.R.U.G.S” caught my ear. The 24 year old rapper Sikia spits about the struggle, dealing with dependency and recovery. The beat produced by Bobby Music is probably why I like this record so much, the kind of beat that’ll get you in a trance. I’m all about hip hop that gets you in the gut, Vibe out with this record, and peep the mixtape! Must listen!

The homie EJ sent over Hyper Crush’s latest single “Illegal” a nice little dancefloor banger for the clubs to get the asses shaking, in anticipation for their album release “Vertigo” October 15. Hpyer Crush make electro-house music though they incorporate elements of pop and hip hop, something different. I almost want to say they incorporate elements of trap in this latest release, a good beat to get ignorant to, do illegal shit, and twerk obviously. Suport by copping the pre-sale, and like them on Facebook! Must listen!

Hip-Hop, Trap | E L Y – Life’s a Bitch Edit

Posted by on October 8, 2013

Chicago reppin’, E L Y can bump out some seriously good instrumentals on the daily. Most of his music takes on a classical hip-hop sound and this is why this Nas edit made my head turn right off the bat. With the synced synth’s and Nas’s modulated voice to fit the beat perfectly, the chorus is what really brings it all together; “Life’s a bitch, and then you die. That’s why we get high, cuz you never know when you’re gonna goooo”. Couldn’t have said it better myself. I contacted & chatted it up with ELy for a little before dropping this post to get a better take on his music ambitions; “I have a mad love for hip-hop and I’m also an accomplished trap DJ under the name E1y. My main focus is instrumentals – instrumentals out the ass.” I took a listen to his DJ set’s as well – THEY GO ALL THE WAY. Here’s a player to both sooooo play on.
P.S. There’s free downloads for both, so take advantage!

Electro, Hip-Hop, Trap | Falcons – Julio (Falcons Remix)

Posted by on October 7, 2013

Coming off of a afternoon work shift I was feeling particularly unenthused and tired. I naturally get in my car, light a stog, go to my SoundCloud app and listen to the new music from my feed on my drive home from work to (hopefully) somewhat better my spirits with some good tunes. Today nothing was really catching my attention until I heard Busta Rhymes all-too-familiar tune remixed into this totally dope version somewhere between hip-hop, trap & throwback. #instalove. Falcons never fails me I swear. My mood went from sour to sweet in almost an instant – crazy how a good song can turn your whole day around. Gacias, Senior Falc$. I can now sleep in peace.

Albums, Electronic | Hot Sugar – Made Man EP

Posted by on October 3, 2013

These past few weeks have been pretty exciting as far as music is concerned, literally one great release after another: Halcyon Days Deluxe, Kiss Land, 20/20 Part 2, Nothing Was The Same, Pure Heroine, shit I hardly get to finish one album before it’s time to download another. Well make some room in your schedule and hard drive, kiddos, because today I present to you Hot Sugar’s latest release, Made Man, and once you start this EP you’re not gonna be able to turn away from it.

I was initially turned on to the New York City based producer by his eclectic remixes and fresh, innovative beats. Beats which are developed by the “Associative Music” technique, which essentially means Hot Sugar captures and records sounds from literally any and everywhere and transforms them beautifully into the tracks you hear now. Pretty wild. “If I point to a butterfly or a fire hydrant and say, ‘Hey, you’re in my band now, so play this,’ it will do it and no one can legally stop me,” said Hot Sugar, more formally known as Nick Koenig, in an interview with Complex.

But back to the EP, the whole thing flows so well and has this juicy, addicting vibe. Artsy, grungy, and totally rad. Like, Gorillaz meets A$AP Rocky meets Handsome Boy Modeling School in a Brooklyn subway station rhyme-spittin’ showdown. Each track features word play from artists such as, but not limited to, Big Baby Ghandi, Chippy Nonstop, Heems, Antown, and Kitty. My personal favorite? “*In & Out*,” featuring KOOL A.D.

You can download the EP fo’ freeeeeee (or Name Your Price) via Bandcamp. And while you’re listening, I’d highly recommend the following:
