DJ-Set | Weekend Mixes 10/25/12

It is Thursday, so it is essentially the weekend. Unless you are this guy, you are going to need mixes to get the weekend started. We start things off with our friends at The Drop with this week’s episode that features an interview with Robbie Rivera and a funky mix from Finnish sensation Lenno, who will be at Santos Party House next weekend, Saturday, November 3rd. Next up we have Tristan Garner’s guest mix on Arty’s relatively new show “2gether We Are”. It features a bunch of the tracks from his recently released “Digital Rocker EP” and showcases his superb bootlegging ability. We then follow with Matisse & Sadko’s October mix that features unreleased tracks from Fedde le Grand, themselves, Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes, Steve Angello and more. Lastly we give you a very recently posted Halloween mix from Zeds Dead that is a bit heavier than the previous three to provide a well rounded group of mixes. Tracklists after the jump.

Russian duo Hard Rock Sofa are back to rock the world with another big release “Starlight” as “Quasar” is still doing damage at festivals worldwide. Though their last release with Squire, “Just Can’t Stay Away” was a bit underwhelming for how talented these guys are, “Starlight” brings us back to the vintage Hard Rock Sofa progressive sound that has gained them worldwide notoriety. With a thumping bass line, well constructed builds and breaks, and an addictive, fine tuned melody; this already highly supported track is surely going to be a favorite of progressive house DJs for the end of the summer.

Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes and perfect examples of guys who have been slowly plugging away, biding their time until their rise to prominence and after nearly 15 years of making music, growing and evolving along the way, they have finally become two of the premier house assets in the world, putting Russia on the map in terms of house music. “Here We Go” is yet another quality release from Axtone, and from the Russians, with its prominent, growling acid bass line that prevails throughout the track, a rising synth and the “Here We Go” vocal bit. This one has festival written all over it and is awesome live. It has been championed by Swedish House Mafia and is already supported by Nicky Romero, Thomas Gold, Afrojack, David Guetta and more.

Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman couldn’t wait any longer and have released their much anticipated single “Russia” a day early. As a follow up to the incredibly successful “Roll The Dice“, “Russia” has a festival size anthem sound to it. The title is fitting because of the rise of Russian house artists with the likes of Hard Rock Sofa, Arty, Matisse & Sadko, Archie, Swanky Tunes and more. The duo provides us with a stunning melody with churning electro undertones and rising synths that crescendos into a maddening break lead by the aforementioned melody, a prominent bass line and various intricate layers to create this well formed production from the fast rising Swedish duo.

DJ-Set, Events, House | Kaskade @ Coachella 2012

Were you at Coachella this year? I wasn’t able to make it (you know, minor details like living on the east coast and all), but Kaskade just uploaded his full set from the festival and it’s making me feel like I was there. The best thing about this set is that he primarily played original material, so it’s packed with many of his uplifting and high-energy mashes. Well worth the listen and the download. Russian groups Swanky Tunes and Hard Rock Sofa have combined again to make the track “Apogee” and yet again they make another huge song. This was their WMC track and it has been supported by all the big names. With a driving bass line, an uplifting, moving synth melody in the break and a well crafted ensemble of pitched synths and kicks and claps in the build this is one you need to get. This may be the biggest production together to date from these guys and shows the continuing rise of Russian house music.
