Portland’s PropaneLv is on the rise. His “Varsity Blues” project has taken the blogosphere by storm, and he’s on a meteoric rise. We sat down with the budding hip-hop sensation to talk “Varsity Blues”, money, and who his four wives would be if he were a polygamist.

1. Who is PropaneLv?

I think he’s still just a guy trying to find his path in life. I’ve always felt a little off and I still can’t escape that feeling. When making music I feel at home, but everything outside of that still hasn’t come together for me.

Pop, Review | An In depth Review of Alison Gold’s “Chinese Food”

Posted by on October 15, 2013

It is not often a pop song strikes me in such a way that I can’t stop playing it or thinking about it. The last time it happened was a couple years ago with what will forever and always be my favorite song, “Payphone” by Maroon 5. I loved it upon first listen, but then one fateful night my adoration for it got intensified in a very big way. I was 17 years old and at a house party. I had my favorite snapback on backwards and was leaning against the wall drinking a diet Dr Pepper when I saw a guy and a girl leave the couch they were on to go upstairs together for some reason, so I made my move and snagged a seat on the couch. I was just chillen there on the couch… by myself… like always… when a girl came over and sat next to me. She said “heyy”, I said “sup”. “Why aren’t you drinking a beer” she asked. “Not a huge fan of the taste” I replied. She then handed me hers, urging me to try it. I did of course because that’s practically kissing which is practically dating which was a big deal for me at the time. “It’s alright I guess” I said as I handed it back to her. Now I don’t know whether or not it was by accident, but the series of events that followed were the without a doubt the highlight of my senior year.

She just looked at me and smiled. She did that for like 20 seconds. When she sat down she sat extremely close to me, our legs were practically touching, it was actually quite rude of her. She then got up and as she was doing so her hand touched my arm and part of my upper thigh region. It was also at that exact moment that “Payphone” came on. I sat there in a state of euphoria until the song finished. She was also wearing flip flops so it was especially hot. I wasn’t quite sure if what had just gone down had in fact gone down but I looked across the room and the Australian guy who kissed me on the cheek against my will in the second grade was standing there watching and he confirmed with a series of head nods that it did.

I never thought my love for Maroon 5’s “Payphone” could be matched, but then I heard this. Press play, watch the video and I can only hope you experience the high that Alison Gold’s “Chinese Food” gave me. Once you check it out, click past the break to read my in depth review of perhaps the greatest pop song to come out all year.

Electro-House, Progressive House | Axwell – Center of the Universe (Blinders Remix)

Posted by on October 14, 2013

Axwell - Center of the Universe (Blinders Remix)Woah. Polish producer Blinders first made his presence known to the dance music community with his official remix of Dirty South & Thomas Gold “Alive”. Blinder’s keeps the melodic nature of the original, but adds a edginess to it, giving it an extra kick and bite. If Axwell believes in this guy, then the smart money would be for you to do so as well.

Guys, you know how sometimes things go terribly wrong and you end up having to wipe the back of the toilet and/or think about changing your pants but it was clear af like it always is cause you mostly drink water so you don’t have to? Well guess what happened to me a couple minutes ago… I remembered how my gym teacher in the tenth grade said that she liked my hair and I just now realized that she was flirting with me. I’m sure that it’s not even a question as to whether or not she is still into me because I mean why wouldn’t she be. Chicago native Topher Jones is clearly still into Paramore’s “Still Into You”, seeing as how he remixed it a couple days ago and is giving it away for free. Honestly, the production quality of this track isn’t very high. The melody is catchy though and the drop is nice (and obviously the vocals are too), so it makes the cut. Cut is the better option and so is chewing gum loudly with your mouth open right next to me.

Exclusive, Featured, Interviews | Stereoshock Helps Me Get A Date, Explains The Tissues On His Desk & More

April 19th, 2012, the day started just like any other. I had woken up a few minutes later than usual and after doing the math, figured that I would miss about five minutes of my first class. I then decided to skip the whole day and stay home. As per usual when I don’t go to class, I bump it up to twice a day. Two girls were texting me at the time so I was just super busy, the time that had been allocated for me to study and do the work that I was missing was pushed aside in order to make room to mow the lawn, like my dad had asked me to days prior. I didn’t mow the lawn and instead went to Best Buy to get some Beats by Dre Studio’s. I got them, in black for some reason, came home and bumped it up once again to three times a day. After my third Klondike bar of the day, making my bi-hourly visit to Soundcloud seemed like the next obvious choice.

It was then that I became acquainted with 20 year old, New York based producer Stereoshock, or as his mother calls him Josh Cohen. I was eating some leftover chilli at the time and accidentally spilled some on my shirt but it didn’t matter, because the song I was listening to was just so good. It wasn’t an original, but it sure sounded like it. At that point forward I was aware that an edit or mashup could be more than vocals thrown over an instrumental or simply interchanging two songs drops. Stereoshock has a level of sophistication in both his edits and originals that is not seen very often. Over time we’ve become friends, and he expressed interest in an interview, so I obliged. Be warned that this interview is extremely serious. We talk about only the most important topics that other artists refuse to.
