Electro-House | Lars Allertz – Make You Mine

Posted by on November 5, 2013

Presenting you another guest post from our Swedish sweetheart, Rebecca

”Everyone can do what I do,” said Avicii in an interview with the Swedish men’s magainze Café, which the publication happened to showcase on the cover of last month’s issue. The outspoken young man has had a lot to say about the industry lately; of course everyone else apart from the artistic genius himself are in the business only for making money. Touring Vegas, having an abnormal obsession with including Ralph Lauren in all aspects of your career, and attacking the States with an album of American country sounds is all about being freely creative, right? But for once, this Avicii quote actually makes sense.

Like some ”guru of EDM,” Avicii has doomed the future of EDM (perhaps because he realized what his own front page quote really means…) and especially progressive and electro house. I am just waiting for Avicii to go full folklore. There must be money to make from the Amish music scene!

His prophecy may come to light but not before a certain newcomer’s career fully blossoms. Introducing someone else who does it, and does it more than well: Lars Allertz. The upcoming, new Avicii-before-he-became-whatever-he-is-now, is making his way through the DJ-booths in Sweden and London. The Stockholm-based 21-year-old just released the song that has every quality to be his big breakthrough. Already last year he was recognized for his early works by DJs such as Tiesto, but has yet to reach the audience. ”Make you mine” has it. Pay attention to the finely-tuned vocals and the Latino strings that put Allertz’s own mark to the, according to a specific DJ’s general opinions (no names mentioned…), “soulless electro house beat” (that means to general ears: a well-created melody with a powerful drop). Left your own territory because you’re frightened of the competition, Tim?

As in typical Swedish fashion, the full version of “Make You Mine” is available on Spotify but check out the preview below and purchase the track via iTunes if it makes you feel that type of way.

Hip-Hop, Rap | Ace Cosgrove – Long Kiss of Death (ft. Uno Hype)

The DMV is next up. We’ve seen cities emerge this past year and show off their stars, but really and truly, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia is blossoming with so much talent that it is becoming impossible to ignore. At the forefront of the movement is the Hostile Youth clan.

Today I bring to you an offering from two of the Hostile Youth members, Ace Cosgrove and Uno Hype. The duo delivers a eerie track with a hint of jazz, perfect for your post-halloween festivities. The song clocks in at only 2 minutes, meaning there will hopefully be plenty more collaboration in the near future.

Electro-House | Icona Pop – Girlfriend (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Posted by on October 27, 2013

While I still hold a grudge against the illiterate chick at the door of Webster Hall, my love for The Chainsmokers is as strong as ever. Those of you who were at TomorrowWorld and of course made the decision to go check out Alex & Drew heard this bad boy live. The remix is a bit of a change from the soothing indie melodic stuff we have heard in the past, and incorporates harder percussive elements… foreshadowing something Alex? They made the instrumental beforehand and were waiting for right vocal and in stepped Icona Pop. They made a music video with themselves, kids and candy. Just watch it. In the future, they have some big collabs coming including one with Adrian Lux.

Reggae, Trap | Lorde – Royals (Reef’d Remix)

Posted by on October 25, 2013

The Reggae/Rock group, Reef’d, have put themselves in a new light with this beautiful cover of Lorde’s “Royals”. Blending in a little bit of Trap and Soul to the mix, the group showed myself at least that they are prepared for a whole new level Reggae that anyone can soak their ears into. This cover can bring a smile to your face even on the worst of days, I would know, it’s helped me feel good as well. Keep an eye out for great tracks from Reef’d in the future, seems everyone is working on good new beginnings.

Progressive House | EDX – Hyped

EDX Hyped

EDX is known for his silky smooth progressive tracks. With “Hyped” he continues that trend of lush pads and evocative plucks, but adds a subtle break of a deep low end, to contrast the synth work throughout. Grab the latest from Swiss machine EDX and be ready be ready for more from him in the near future.

Electronic | Oliver – Mechanical Remixes

Posted by on October 24, 2013

Okay so I’ve been a bit all over the place the past week so this post may be a tad over due but bear with me – it’s incredibly vital to your well being and the entirety of your weekend. The charismatic DJ duo Oliver released their Mechanical EP through Fool’s Gold earlier this year and were showered in success. Like, if you didn’t hear “MYB” at a music festival at least 5 times this summer then you son were at all the wrong music festivals. Anyways, last week they debuted their Mechanical remixes and literally each track is a hands-down 10. The first remix is brought to us by the one and only Dillon Francis who shot “Night Is On My Mind” with a full injection of bonafied Dillon, with that one and only moombatastic, speaker-shattering sound you can trust. The second remix from Nom De Strip was an unexpected favorite, a big room rework of “Control” that is undoubtedly, well, out of control. Next up, a freaky deep remix of “MYB” from FNT favorite Tchami, which adds a nice new perspective to the original. The EP finishes off strong courtesy of upcoming producer Values, who takes us on a heavenly, melodic journey throughout the remix of title-track “Mechanical.” If Values wasn’t on your radar before, I think this track will guarantee he ends up dead center in the near future. And you know, I want to say the last one will end being the one you play on repeat, but the truth is the whole compilation works so well together you probably won’t be able to settle on just one track. Unfortunately it’s not available for free download but grow a pair a drop the few bucks necessary so these DJs can bring home the bacon at the end of the day. Plus then you can have these remixes readily available because you never know when you might need them this weekend… OoOoOoOoOh!

Hip-Hop | Lucki Eck$ – Want More (Prod. Plu2o Nash)

It’s been a little bit since we’ve heard from Chicago up and comer Lucki Eck$. His newest offering brings back the sound we heard him craft so well on his Alternative Trap mixtape. The laid back beat with the distortions really sets the mood and his verses have an eerie sound to them that I love. Very interested to see what’s in store for Lucki in the near future.
