Electronic | Kito & Reija Lee – I Need You

Posted by on May 7, 2014

“I Need You” by Kito & Reija Lee is nothing like what I usually post. It’s got a pop vibe but can’t quite fall into that category. I’ve been a sucker for Kito & Reija Lee since I heard them on FNT in 2011. I’m not sure why but their sound just grabs me, and I think others will have the same feeling! There is a common synth in most of the songs I’ve heard from Kito & Reija Lee and it is noticeable in this track too. If you’re familiar with them, or their big hits “Sweet Talk” and “Run For Cover” you’ll know what I mean. This new track is smooth and has beautiful vocals. I’m so excited to see what these two will do in the future. Grab it for free on Facebook!

Collin McLoughlin has been on a roll as of late. From headlining Mandala in Puerto Vallarta to dropping ID‘s with Dash Berlin, he’s quickly becoming an act to catch live. Earlier today, Collin dropped a brilliant future house / deep house mix that features Foamo, Julian Bashmore, and Karma Kid. Collin even included a never-before-heard collaboration with a notable deep house producer. You can catch Collin McLoughlin headlining live in Boston on May 14th at NAGA. Sit back and relax. You are now in the mix.

Hip-Hop, Rap | GoldLink – Ay Ay (Video)

Posted by on April 30, 2014

After the successful release of his genre-bending project, The God Complex, GoldLink has debuted the first video for the song “Ay Ay”. Classified as a “future-bounce stripper anthem,” the video combines some serious booty-shaking with a mini-plot line. The video was directed by Nathan R. Smith, and is the second strong visual release from him and GoldLink in the past month.

Check out the video above, and be sure to grab The God Complex here, if you haven’t already.

Deep House | All Gone Pete Tong x Tchami

Fast becoming my favorite artist, Parisian producer Tchami releases his “All Gone Pete Tong” essential mix on the world. I’m not a big fan of essential mixes. I usually find them uninteresting. However, Tchami finds a way to bring the excitement with his signature future house sound. There’s a future house / deep house revival beginning to bubble in the states, and I can’t help but feel that Tchami and others are facilitating this process. Pete Tong. Tchami. All Gone. Essential Mix. Everything is untrue.

Hip-Hop, Rap | Saba – 401k

Posted by on April 29, 2014

Perhaps not known by name to many, Saba has surely made a statement for himself amongst the Chicago rap scene. In “401k” he tells a sad story shared by many kids coming up in Chi-town. Despite good grades, his environment held him back from excelling in a job setting, and led right back to the street life.

Traded a 401k for an AK

Saba spits with conviction, and although there is some fine-tuning that needs to be done, it’s clear that this young man will be riding the Chicago rap wave for the foreseeable future.

Amidst this facile pop culture climate—in which producers and writers alike have problematically concluded that lucrativeness follows the more nugatory and hollow creations—an artist with a clear identity and sound is at once both palpable and powerful. Hence, my enthusiasm for King Deco. A month after releasing her EP’s lead single, “One”, the full project is here, adding two mesmeric and lushly-produced tracks in “Laila” (produced by Adam Pallin) and “Ocean” (produced by Cobra Starship’s Ryland Blackinton & One Love), as well as a Kinetics verse with every bit as much of the intricateness and carefully-crafted lyricism we’ve come to expect from the astute rhymer. What is most compelling, though, about King Deco’s project, is how much depth and weight this project bears in just three songs. She excels at combining lyrical tension with her softening, tranquil harmonies, and ultimately leaves us craving a more ample dose of her world. Luckily, we don’t have to wait long, with her Euphrates EP release around the corner. For more, we spoke to the talented songstress herself:

Electronic | Disclosure – Latch (Lido Remix)

Posted by on April 16, 2014

Less than a week ago I posted a Disclosure remix by up and comer cln. and in doing so, highlighted the importance of originality in these ubiquitous Disclosure remixes in order for them to break the surface, hit the big time, soar to the top of the Hype Machine charts, whatever. After hearing just a mere preview of Lido’s remix, it all became clear to me why this was one of the most anticipated Disclosure remixes in a minute. The Norwegian producer (not pointing any fingers this time) has made a name for himself after planting a seed in the scene long ago with his Cashmere Cat, “Kiss Kiss” remix (for you OG fans out there) and most recently, his rework of Yung Lean’s “Gatorade.”  This “Latch” remix is one of the more light-hearted, warm and fuzzy ones out there, perfect for any setting or time of day. Because, you know, for a second there I almost thought I never wanted to hear “Latch” again for the rest of the forseeable future but Lido really brought back the magic from the first time I heard this track back to life. Keep your eyes peeled for Lido’s EP release via Pelican Fly and your fingers crossed for it to be sooner rather than later.

UPDATE: Apparently Soundcloud was just not having it with this remix, so instead you’ll have to listen to it hear via this slightly sketchy Rinse FM rip, but hey at least it’s something.
